Phoracantha semipunctata, body length 25mm
We found this beetle attracted by our window light to our backyard in early summer. When we look for information about this insect in the internet, we found this beetle is very famous. This is a Australian native beetle but became a major pest of Eucalyptus plantations through out the world. Their larvae is the Eucalyptus borer which damage the wood.

This Longicorn Beetle mimics a wasp to gain protection. Besides its colours and body shape, the beetle moves like a wasp too. More pictures and information please click here.

Amphirhoe decora., body length 20mm
This Longicorn Beetle has all femurs thickened. Its antennae are three times of its body length. It is brown to dark brown in colour. There is a white line on each wings cover. We saw it when it was resting on a Acacia leaf. It flied away after we took the above photo. It was early summer in Alexandra Hill.
