News and Activities at the Studio
It's summertime! And dat bouncy old song we been playing in Tap Dance class is making all of us get far-away looks and go to da window.
"In the summertime, when all the trees and leafs are green,
And the pond is high,
We all sigh ....and tend to be wishin
We was all going fishin.........."
We've noticed our classes getting smaller while memfurs go away on vacations or take long summer naps or go off fishin in ponds.... my, that does sound nice, doesn't it? So we are closing classes fur the summer and hope to see mew all back in the Fall. Mew can still visit and use the studio whenefur mew wish. We will be around, so if mew haff any ideas fur dance activities mew would like to do in the Fall, be sure to tell us.
Our folk-dancing classes haff been a great success, and in the last few monffs we haff become furry well rounded folk dancers. Part of what we learned is how much alike many of them are. Another part is how much unlike anything else Scottish folk dancing is. That's why we will be continuing Scottish classes in the Fall, and no, kilts are not required. No, they are not discouraged. Only bagpipes are discouraged because of our delicate ears. And a couple of us finally learned about not squashing the sombrero in a Mexican Hat Dance. Ole'!
Fur those brave kitties who still want to know about the polka, ummmmm...... we will haff all summer to giff that some thought. Really. (*whew*)
Our Basic Infurmation:
Any kitty can apply fur membership in the dance studio, it's easy! Just send us an email here to let us know, and we will enroll mew and send mew a memfurship card.
Check our schedule here to see when the classes and Dance Nights will be when we start again in the Fall. Our memfurs take as many or as few classes as they want to, and can use the studio fur practice any time. They can also attend any of our dance nights and bring a guest. Tell your furriends about the studio, too. We were happy to get some new memfurs recently and hope to see a big bunch of mew in the Fall!

If mew missed the pictures of our luffly Spring Dance in April, we still haff them right here fur mew to see:
Spring Dance Pictures
We always haff a great time at special events and make wonderfur memories, too. We look furward to planning more of them when the studio reopens.

Be sure to check out our Studio Shoppe fur your dancing outfits and workout clothes, dance shoes, dance bags, or anything else mew might need. We are always adding new items, and we can order anything (well, almost) that mew need fur dancing if mew don't see it in there. We did try to order kitty kilts but we had a liddle problem wiff our supplier. Dey sent us quilts. So we will try again later.
Now fur our regular dance article by Phelicity.
Why Cats Dance
There is mewsually a good reason fur efurything we kitties do; even if our humans don't understand it or we didn't think of it yet ourselfs, there is one. I saw a funny liddle book once called "Why Cats Paint", and it had pictures of cats actually painting with paints - in a bathtub, and some other less appropriate places. I saw dey got furry messy and wondered what dey did about that! But I didn't really see why cats paint, except dey was artistic.
If cats are naturally artistic, and we are in so many ways, I think there is nothing more artistic than dancing. And why do cats dance?
Some of us live to dance, it's what we luff to do all the time, flying, floating, dreaming, moving the way only cats can, like we are magic creatures in a fairy tale. When dancing is our life, we feel that magic all the time. It's a wonderfur way to feel.
Some like to keep in shape fur our active lives and keep our natural grace polished up so we always look amazing to the humans we live with and nefur lose that natural purrfection.
Some like to show off and be entertaining, so others enjoy watching us, and individual dancing is a great way to show off our talents and get lotsa admiration.
Some of us are romantic and lucky in luff, and dancing is the purrfect way to be close to that special boy or girl kitty. Nothin else needs to be said about how nice that is.
Some of us are shy, or started out that way, and purrfur dancing to the mewsic instead of talking and trying to sound brilliant when we doesn't feel it. We might notice later how the shyness disappeared while we were dancing.
Some of us might haff been sad or hurting, but when we started dancing the sadness went away and the hurting was furgotten fur a while. So we saw how much better it made us feel and kept it up.
Some of us are plain silly and luff to haff fun, and dancing is such a wonderfur way to haff fun! It makes a happy kitty efen happier and a silly kitty efen ... well, ... I think that's okay, too.
Some of us might like to paint a picture, or ski down a mountain, or drive race cars or play baseball or play a violin, but those things take some aptitude we might not all have. (Which is why we might get furry messy, break a leg, wreck the car, run into a bat, or make horrible noises.) But any kitty can dance. It comes naturally, from the most professional ballerina to the boy doing a two step wiff two left feet, we can all do it in some way and be just as happy.
Each of us, in our own way and our own life, has found joy in dancing. Sometimes it's fur an hour or two, or sometimes it's fur efury minute of the day. That can only be good. And that is why cats dance.

We haff a special big mewsical movie to offer this monff fur fun summertime entertainment. Mew won't want to miss this one:
Showboat
by Phelicity
Sometimes in the summer we like to just laze around and watch a good movie, and there are plenny of good new ones to see. But I wonder if mew heard of an old one called Showboat. It's a big, colorful extravaganza of mewsic, dancing, drama, and great entertainment. And it has lots of the most wonderfur songs mew will efur hear, like "Old Man River".
Not only is the movie old, it was set in a much older time yet, when showboats traveled the Mississippi River all summer, presenting shows full of singing and dancing fur the people in the towns along the river. They didn't have movie theaters in those days, to go into and keep cool while seeing a good movie in the summer. Nobody had efur dreamed of seeing a movie or show in your own house! But they had showboats, theaters on big fancy steamboats, where shows were performed live onstage efury night wherever the boat stopped.
Cap'n Andy ran the Showboat and put on the shows. His daughter Magnolia wanted to be in them, but her mama wouldn't let her, until the star actress had to leaf suddenly and the star actor left wiff her! Then they was stuck, they had a show to put on! So Cap'n Andy hired a riverboat gambler who could sing real purrty, named Gaylord Ravenal, to be the star actor and let Magnolia co-star wiff him in the shows. My, my, did the fireworks start then! Gaylord and Magnolia acted in plays and sang beautifur songs together all down the Mississippi. And of course dey fell in luff. It's a great story, and I won't spoil the rest of it fur mew by tellin. Mew can always expect a happy ending in movies this old.
My fafurites in the movie were Frank and Ellie, a dance team that purrformed efury night on the Showboat. They did wonderfur happy dances and wore such colorful costumes, they are great fun to watch. Any of us who luff tap dancing and old-timey show dancing will be captivated by Frank and Ellie. I specially like a number Ellie did, called "Life Upon the Wicked Stage". It's such a hoot!
Fur a really good summer movie to get lost in and happy watching, I recommend Showboat. I know mew will luff it!
