Global Football League Week 2 Previews - September 6th After an exciting first week of Fantasy Football action, some great matchups are about to be seem in Week 2 of the Global Football League (GFL). Sao Paulo Travelers vs. New London Wacker Boyz II
The most important Game of The Week will probably be between the Sao Paulo Travelers and the New London Wacker Boyz II, both teams undefeated in week 1 and tied for first place in the GFL West. The Boyz, who had zero points coming from the Seattle D last week, apparently decided to start the Carolina Panthers defense. They will also have great benefits if the combination of QB Vinny Testaverde and WR Michael Jackson can continue their impressive performances against a not so good Cincinnati defense, as the Baltimore Ravens host the Cincinnati Bengals. On the other side, the Travelers will certainly need more help at the Quarterback postion, as John Elway, the team's best hope, struggled last week. Also, the Travelers can count with RB Eddie George, as the second year runner has shown the critics he's in the NFL to stay. In the injury department, the Travelers have a huge advantage, as the Boyz no. 1 RB Terry Allen will miss this week's game. The Screaming Meanies, playing remarkable well, had the biggest blow out of Week 1, but now they will face a team that is looking to rebound from a loss, as the Kauai Rainbows prepare to impress. The Rainbows have Brett Favre, who can win games litteraly by himself, and star TE Shannon Sharpe. Altough there have been some rumors about a trade, the WR-style tight end will start for the Kauai this week. They also have the no. 1 ranked kicker in the league, Jason Elam of the Broncos. But the biggest story is on the Meanies side. They scored 74 points in their first week. For the untrained eye, that's a normal statistic, as the Rainbows scored 75, but if you remember well, starting QB Dan Marino scored 0 points, and star WR Jerry Rice only a single point before being put out for the season. That shows the Meanies have a great overall team, who can certainly compensate for some weekly struggles. That's a balanced team. The GFL best attack will meet the second worst one this week, as the Sao Paulo Big Passaros face the Bloody Sabbaths. With 92 points scored in the first week, the Passaros showed some power on offense, who will again have QB Drew Bledsoe as the heart of the attack, with WR Michael Irving and RB Dorsey Levens as a great supporting cast. Their weakness might be at the TE position, as they will again start Cincinnati's unproved tight end Tony Mcgee. The Sabbaths are probably looking for answers, as they may change as many as five players from their starting lineup, including QB Kordell "Slash" Stewart, who looked awful in the Dallas game. Sabbath's reserve QB Tony Banks will probably start this week. The Lounge Lizards, who beat the Sabbaths in week 1, will face the New York Freaky Fat Cats, who lost to the Big Passaros. Looking to get on the right side of the road, the Freaky Fat Cats will probably change TE's, as Eric Green will have a chance to play as Ken Dilger sits this one. They will also continue with their three RB lineup. For the Lizards, the key question is about WR Keyshawn Johnson, who was shadowed by great performances by two other Jets wide receivers last week, as Jeff Graham and Wayne Chrebet scored two TD's each. They also expect a better game from WR Irving Fryar, as last week he was very far from his 1996 performances. The last game of the week will be between two 0-1 teams, as the Da Kine Hawaiian meet the Crown City Thorns. The Thorns scored only 17 points, but they are hoping it was just bad luck or an early struggle. They certainly have the potential to score a lot, as they will start RB Curtis Martin, WR Antonio Freeman and the Pittsburgh Steelers defense. The biggest question is about RB Lawrence Phillips, who did not start last week for the Thorns and scored 3 TD's. Is he going to start this week? As of Saturday, 10:30 ET, he won't. The Hawaiian have a pair of dangerous receivers, as Herman Moore and Wayne Chrebet are on the rise. With WR Jerry Rice out for the season, Moore is considered by many to be the NFL's best wide out, and will probably lead the league in receptions. This week, the RB starters will most likely be Jerome Bettis and Carolina's Anthony Johnson. Bettis will try to rebound from a shy performance against the Cowboys, and is expected to play big.
