Right now, the world needs a few more heroes. Things have been pretty scary since the fall of the Order of Freedom and Liberty. The other superhero teams, especially the Guardians of Justice and the Champions have been trying to fill the void left by the greatest superhero team of all time, but when fifteen of the world's most powerful heroes die it just isn't easy to fill those shoes. From what we understand at Superhero Weekly, everyone has been working overtime since the fall of the Order. Big hugs and kudos to those heroes, we the people do appreciate it, but more are needed.
And more have come.
There are two new superheroes that have broken loose on the scene, and do we need them now. Both are also active in the southern United States, an area that has always been lacking in superheroes. These two brave individuals are The Hurricane and Screwloose.
The Hurricane's story was well known long before he became a superhero. His real name is Jerome "The Hurricane" Franklin, you may recognize it if you were alive in the early seventies. He was a boxer who had a damn good chance at becoming the world champion. Unfortunately, one night in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, he was arrested for double murder. The saddest part of this story is that Jerome never committed the murder, he was arrested and convicted simply because he was an African American. It was just another situation of bigotry. To add to the insult of Jerome's arrest, was that one of the witnesses saw the real killers, who were both Caucasians. It didn't matter, Jerome spent the next twenty five years in prison. The real killers were never brought to justice.
Two years ago, Jerome was set free. As he was trying to establish a new life, a hurricane hit the south. Jerome was caught in the middle. According to Jerome, at the point when he was in the eye, he developed the powers of the storm. Jerome truly became a hurricane, both in name and nature. It would have been easy for Jerome to become a villain, he had already been arrested for crimes he didn't commit, why shouldn't he take advantage? Instead Jerome became a hero, the hero he always was. He has used his powers to help people and fight crime, and well as fight racial prejudice. Unlike many heroes, he does not make one city a home base, but travels through out the entire deep south, doing what he can to help others.
In Miami, there is another kind of hero, Screwloose. Almost nothing is known about this man. He came on the scene three months ago, fighting crime in every way. He is said to be insane from those he has captured. He is feared because the Miami crime scene doesn't quite know what to make of him. But it's a good thing he's there, Miami has one of the highest crime rates in the country, and until Screwloose there has never been a full time hero in the city, although several supervillains make the city their home.
Screwloose has already made one major capture, he has caught Mechassassin. This arrested happened only two days before the writing of this article. Mechassassin has never been brought in before, not until Screwloose came across him. Now Mechassassin will finally stand trial for his many crimes. Still, even with the capture of Mechassassin, and the amount of publicity it has brought Screwloose, little is known. For the time being Screwloose will remain an enigma wrapped in a mystery.
It is heroes like these that make the world a safer place. Hopefully soon, more heroes will rise and help them in the battle against crime.
