Every writer has to have a CV. It's your passport. Your badge of authenticity as a writer.

It doesn't mean you're any good, but it does mean you're serious as a writer. It's your been-there-dun-that file. The sketch of your life as an artist. The chart of your progress as a pilgrim. It's ... well what ever it is I've done one.

So here it is. you can browse it. See what I've done and when. The plays and things that are the flotsam that I've left in the wake of my life.

Produced
Plays
  • 1976 Exit Lines
30min. Radio play. Broadcast on ABC radio.

A black comedy. The central character runs a business writing suicide notes. Not a business with a lot of repeat trade. And if you wanted to sum the business up in one sentence it might be "Don't accept cheques."

  • 1979 Baggy Green Skin
Full length Stage play. State Theatre Co. of South Australia.

Comedy. The full title is "If God had wanted me to be in the Army he would have given me Baggy Green Skin." It's all about my army experience as a National Serviceman serving in Vietnam.

  • 1984 Macker's Reef
60min. Radio play. Broadcast on ABC radio.

Comedy. Macker dumped half a dozen clapped out cars in the ocean to create his own private fishing reef. It was a great plan but he was drunk at the time and now he can't find the reef again. On top of that one of the cars contains something important and the owner wants it back. Now. Or else.

  • 1988 All This and Tim Bourke Too
60min. Radio play. Broadcast on ABC radio.

Comedy. Life is about making choices. Choosing to be the butcher means you can't be the baker or the candlestick maker. Tim Bourke wanted to do eveything in life. Be everything. Experience everything. But you can't. Tim can't. And he's not happy about that.

  • 1989 SOS Save Our Supermarket
Full length. Stage play. Magill Campus Drama Department.

Comedy. With a very large cast for students. In theory you can build a universal constructor that will make anything you want. In practice we're not that far away from actually achieving it. Suppose we do? Suppose you local supermarket incorporated a universal constructor that could turn out anything your heart desires at practically no cost? What would it do to society? What would it do to you?

  • 1993 Jewels on Black Velvet
30min. Stage play. Salisbury Theatre Co.

Civilizations are a lot like people. They live. They die. And on occasions they can be murdered...

  • 1993 Jewels on Black Velvet
    30min. Broadcast on ABC radio.

    The radio version.

  • 1996 The Poisoned Challice
30min. Stage play. Jimmy Zoole Presents.

This was written at the time Australia was considering becoming a republic and breaking its ties with the crown. My great fear was that this would become just another football for the politicians to kick around. And it did. Hence this play.

  • Unproduced
    Plays

Not all of my plays are brilliant. But not all of them are bad either. And not all of the good ones have necessarily been produced.

This is the list of the plays I've written that have never been produced. A few you will find on this site under Scripts or click on the title to jump directly to that script.

The list is far from exhaustive. I tend to write lots of bits and pieces. Not all are polished works and many are just collections of notes for stories I might get around to writing one day if I have the time. These plays listed here have the virtue (at least) That they are complete scripts.

  • 1975 Sex, Woolly Sox & the Great Bald Eagle
    30min. Stage play.
  • 1980 Dad's Old Steam Wireless
    60min. Radio play.
  • 1980 The Good Oil
    Full length. Stage play.
  • 1981 The First Stone
    Full length. Stage play.
  • 1982-98 Darjeeling

  • 1986 Metaphores
    60min. Radio play
  • 1986 Scenes from a Small Civilization
