The Reign of Aequoreus and Crisis
Aequoreus enjoyed the longest reign of all monarchs ascending the throne in BC 810 AS 1190 and dying eventually aged 82 in BC 740/ AS 1260. Her reign however was blighted by numerous fringe riots opposing the use of Lunarian, the now age-old opposition to the Alliance and a general discomfort at being ordered from Mara. In response, Aequoreus crafted the first parliament to meet and advise her decisions with a small committee of 7 members the five countries. This committee also advised upon laws and helped to ease with the people, which was especially useful with the crisis upon Aequoreus’ death. A strange situation occurred whereby the only female bloodline successor would be an obscure daughter of the nobility from Europa and had many of the upper ranks of nobility up in arms who demanded that for this sake a closer male relation was found. With the committee and support of Lady Glacies, a law was passed that decreed that
Luckily for the new Queen, the 25 year old Ryian, she was very popular among the people. Famed for her silver-haired Galatean beauty and celebrated for her popular economic policies to help her people (which were carefully devised attempts to gather support). Ryian however was disliked by many of the nobility for her rank and also an over dependency on her committee which disgruntled the nobility with their firm beliefs in aristocracy. 15 years into her reign an 18 year old woman appeared in Mara claiming to be the granddaughter of the self-exiled sister of Aequoreus. The nobility did not seek evidence and immediately supported the newcomer to fierce opposition from the people. The people did not want to lose the monarchy however and with fringe exceptions desperately tried to avoid conflict. The newcomer, Erlvi, was in fact exactly who she purported to be and did replace Ryian after two years of fairly fierce struggling and despite trying to please her people remained very unpopular. Yet Erlvi survived with her noble support including Lady Glacies who once discovering that Erlvi was true in her claim offered full support after early suspicions. |
