Skyline: A crane lifts a load over the skyline.Plot: Niles has bought Daphne tickets for a Billy Joel concert, and she's bought him tickets to the throat singers at the Mongolian Music Festival. However they're on the same night. Also on that night, Martin is starting his new job as a security guard. When Martin reminds them that Eddie needs walking at 10pm, an argument starts between everyone else as to who should walk him. Leaving them to argue, Martin goes to his room, and remembers back to the last day he worked - the day he got shot. Martin is in the car with his partner Frank. Martin isn't getting along with his kids and keeps telling Frank the same things again and again. Frank says he's seeing a therapist to get along with his kids and now does things like kissing them goodbye before he goes to work. He suggests Martin calls Frasier in Boston and Niles at home to see what they're up too as a way of building bridges with them, and Martin agrees. Frank then asks to pull over so he can get a drink. Martin offers to get it for him...... At the hospital, Niles comes to visit. But he and his father don't have much to say to each other. Back in the present, Martin finds everyone still arguing. Martin tells them to work things out, and that he's now off to work. Before he goes, he kisses his kids goodnight. Subtitles: Beware Lollygagging Messengers; She Has Big Ones, Too. It's Maris!!!.....Thanks For Nothing: In the flashback, Martin has to spend Thanksgiving with Niles and Maris. Maris ate nothing. She sucked air through a rice cake instead. Martin knows..... his friends who are taking him out to dinner to celebrate his new job, but they have to cancel due to one working. Frank in this episode may be the younger version of the Frank, played by Ron Dean, who appeared in Ep 15 "Can't Tell A Crook By His Cover". Where Everybody Knows Your Name: A few indirect mentions of Frasier being in Boston are in this episode. Trivia: The flashbacks occur in 1991 (the year isn't mentioned, but in 1993, in the first episode, Martin said he was shot "a couple of years ago."). This episode might also explain the origin of Eddie - in 1991 Martin has a pet goldfish and says he isn't much of a dog person, so he may have got Eddie after getting shot. Kenny tries to get Roz to help him buy some sexy clothes for his wife as he's too embarrassed. The first guest callers of the season. And David Hyde Pierce had to wear a wig when playing 1991 Niles, as 1991 Niles had more hair!!! |
