Skyline: A rain-cloud passes over the city.Plot: Daphne is having mood swings due to her pregnancy, and poor Niles is on the receiving end of them. Later, Niles goes to visit Frasier on his first day returning to part time private practise - where he gets a phone call - from Maris. She wants to meet up with him for lunch and sounds panicked and worried. When Niles returns, he tells Frasier and Martin that she thinks her new boyfriend, Argentinean polo player Esteban de Rojo, is just a moneygrabber with a violent temper. Niles had advised her to leave him. Frasier and Martin advice against Niles telling Daphne of all this because of the mood swings. Niles decides to tell her anyway because he doesn't want to lie to her. At Cafe Nervosa, Daphne answers Niles' cellphone. It's Maris. Daphne tells her to leave Niles alone, and Niles chickens out of telling her. His lies to explain where he was at lunchtime lead Daphne to think he was planning a secret baby shower for her. Niles manages to put together a baby shower in just under a few hours, but none of Daphne's friends can come and the caterer has made a mistake. Niles is panicking now, as every time he speaks to Daphne it's another lie. At the baby shower, Esteban comes to the door and thinking Frasier is Niles, punches Frasier in the face for having lunch with Maris. Daphne discovers the truth and storms out. The couple later make up, and Niles apologises for the whole thing. They walk out the kitchen - and the radio announcer announces that Maris has been arrested for the murder of her lover..... Meanwhile Frasier's first day at private practice lurches from one disaster to another, but just as Frasier thinks it was a bad idea, a patient named Brad needs some help. He has a problem just like Frasier used to - divorced, in a new city - and Frasier is able to help him. Subtitles: I'm Listing; Don't Cry For Me Argentina. It's Maris!: Maris is back, although we still don't see her of course. She is so frightened of Esteban that she "hardly touched her snail" at lunch with Niles, and we also learn her strength once went out whilst she was in a revolving door. Where Everybody Knows Your Name: There's a couple of indirect mentions of Lilith when Frasier remembers her mood swings, and that he was constantly lying to her so she wouldn't snap at him. Trivia: Maris returns with a bang in this episode, leading on to Part 2 next week..... Gertrude Moon also makes her first appearance this season, although she only has one line. Kelsey Grammer and Dan Castellaneta (Brad) are "reunited" - Dan does the voice of Homer Simpson, Krusty the Klown and lots of others on The Simpsons, and of course Kelsey plays Sideshow Bob on that show. Brad's problem - he's been in a new city for 6 months, divorced, apart from his kids - is of course very similar to Frasier's condition back in Ep 1 "The Good Son". And Valerie Mahaffey also worked with David Hyde Pierce on The Powers That Be. |
