The never-ending renovation process at Georgia Tech is always putting up new eyesores around campus. Everywhere you look, there is nothing but construction going on.....at an unbearably slow pace. It takes 22+ months (Yes, I was actually corrected by a student who had been around long enough to see when that street actually existed) to repave a strip of road that is less that .2 miles long. The constant beautification process is what makes Tech's campus one of the ugliest on earth. All the time its the same damn thing: constant drilling, digging, and bulldozing with MACK trucks and concrete mixers going in and out blowing exhaust smoke everywhere and sidewalks marked with 3-4 different colors of spray paint to mark where the new construction will soon begin. The people here are sooooooo stupid that they will actually go find something to demolish and redo it just so they can stay busy.
The construction on the football stadium has been going on since the season ended, and it looks like all they've done so far is move dirt around. Then they actually stop construction to clean up the dirt off of the road, just so it can be trashed again 10 minutes later by the trucks going in and out of there. Sleeping is impossible if you live right next to it. Every day, you get to walk past it on your way to class. You get to inhale all the fumes and dust and dirt while the semi-truck about runs you over. Life is good.
You probably think that I'm just an ass that's impatient, but its really ridiculous. Half the facilities on campus are closed year round simply because they're in constant renovation and its always causing traffic to be redirected in every direction. As it stands right now, half of the library is closed because they're building some new cool stuff in there, they kicked me out of Caldwell so they could renovate it in the middle of the year, the stadium is a giant gaping mudhole, the street next to Peters parking deck has been closed for construction since the beginning of time, the pool at the SAC is out of commission, they just destroyed the very little grass there was on east campus so they could put up a wheelchair ramp going up to Harrison dorm, and I hear that the bookstore is gonna be the next to go. When will it end?
Maybe all this construction would be justifiable if it actually came out to be anything nice....but it doesn't. The quality of their work is shit. Georgia Tech is probably the biggest swamp in Atlanta, and you'll see that when it rains. A little drainage wouldn't be a bad idea. For some reason, they like to build everything so that it collects gallons of rainwater. Maybe they like it like that...I dunno.
Even better is the smell of raw sewerage (due them always 'fixing' the sewer
lines) that is omnipresent on east campus. After all, who shouldn't have
the privilege of smelling the shit they took the day before??
I like how they like to just dig up holes and fill them over.
I'm glad they're doing something productive - God forbid that we
shouldn't have 18 inch holes in the sides of the roads to be jackhammered and
refilled with new asphalt.
