DR Mac
Wednesday, 28-Feb-01 10:12:00

This is espically (but not only)for Da Liberator who replied to my last message.
I have no real opinion on Dr Mac. He is like many people you meet - just trying to look after his own back and do what he honestly believes to be right for the school. He might change one day (?), he might not..
One way to change the system you seem to dislike so much, is to fight collectivly, as a school. Fight a good, clean fight for greater expression, student assessment of teaching (it does happen in many other schools and certainly all universities), A-levels for all etc, etc. Get together and STRIKE, MARCH, CHANT, STAGE SIT-INS. Get the papers involved. You need to band together and plan how you will work to end this regime. It will not bring the school into disrepute, after all, you are merely saying that you need more freedom and creativity, more oppertunity and more respect. The papers will make you out to be heros if you do it right. If you`re saying that you like the school and the education standard but won`t be supressed, you will all be seen as mature people taking charge of a bad situation. You are all very intelligent, able and commited young gentlemen, so use those supposed skills to re-shape you`re environement.
Anyway...enough of this...Might I suggest you take a look at the 'old elizabethians' pages on the official web site.
    1. Look at the committe minutes and read the section about 'new recruits'. I have copied and pasted it here for you as well...Here goes...
    4.2 SCHOOL-LEAVERS:
    i) Mr Fuller reported that he would be having a meeting with the School Captain in the immediate future, to process ideas to increase our membership.
ii) Mr Slough reported that the results of the Headmaster's and Mr Cooper's initiative to date were disappointing, namely 2 new members. The matter was discussed and it was agreed that future approaches to school leavers should be left until after the results of the examinations were known and that the initial approach should be sent via the parents.
...OK, me again. So, they even hand pick those who they want to join the old Elizabethians. NOW, look at this...Does it suggest that the school have tried to raise money by ASKING for a mobile phone mast to be erected on some land that it owns??? Make your own mind up gents????
4.3 TELECOMMUNICATIONS MAST AT GYPSY CORNER
Mr Shearly reported that nothing could be done about this matter as it is usual for the companies concerned to approach owners of suitable land, not vice versa.
    ********************************
Dear oh dear oh dear ... I am lost for words...
    Keep up the fight gents.....

The Message Board

    (in reply to last message)
Insidetheweb.com is closing down (who provide our message board) - as of the low revenue from advertising, so we will be closing down our message board permanently (only joking) - we have already sorted out a new one a couple of weeks ago as soon as they emailled us to tell us they were closing down - they've been really helpful and given us a complete breakdown of messages and a log of all messages so we don't have to spend hours doing it! - just download the file (hurray!). We are checking out the new board quite closely before we actually do the change over - but it will be in the next week - the new board will be a lot more advanced in terms of features - so should be even better than this one (if possible)... Thanks a lot for all your support and keep up the good work! - especially to those of you who have been emailling us loads - you know who you are ;)

Good Teachers of the past
Wednesday, 21-Feb-01 07:49:01

Many good QE teachers have come and quickly gone again - onto new and pleasant working conditions where they can encourage those who are less able and those with problems.
Why do teachers decide to teach? Is it to nurture those who really need help and direction to show their talent, or those whose lives might be changed if they are encouraged to get that C or D at GCSE rather than walking the streets and mugging old ladies? Do they do it because they have a talent to motivate and to be dynamic in their subject - to draw students into enjoying and taking their subject further? OR, do they teach in order to supress and banish those who are not deemed to be pure academic perfection, to eject anybody who might need that extra bit of time or money spent on them so that they might fulfill their full potential, to ignore those with social or medical problems. We have to question where on earth the job satisfaction of some of our teachers comes from. Is this really why your teachers entered the profession?
So, I leave you with some of the good and the bad of past times...
    The good:
    Mr Sugdon
    Mr Sandyswood
    Mr K (at heart)
    Mr Newell
    Mr Gutherie
Mrs Vinson (why has nobody mentioned her on here - she is the best)
    Mr Dormieux
    Mr Treadwin (Controversal but true)
    Miss Bell (mrs ross)
    Mr clift x2
    Mr Bilton
    Mr Griffiths
    Mr Price
    Mr Trickett
    Mr Fitt
    Miss Arthers
    Dr Russell (five bellies)
Miss Catlow (we love you !!!)
    Mr Faulding
    Mr Phillips (German)
    Miss Karamalakis (pure teaching perfection)
    The Bad
Mr Oulton (Seems to think that all bullying should be swept under the carpet and ignored)
    Mr Chandler
    Mr Clark
    Mr Maughan
    Mr Dhondy
    Mr Halford
Mrs Rubens (Hmmmmm a power trip perhaps)
Mr Davis (Has the ability to be a fantastic teacher but rarely can be bothered to show it)
Mr Pritchard (oh, for goodness sake - have some bloody chrisma and try to excite people and make them enjoy your subject).
There are of course others, but these stick in the mind...
Take care of yourselves and try to get your teachers to actually teach you enthusiastically in the sprit that they should...
    Cheers.

Hmm. Y'know, I went to a lousy comp in Leeds, and so many of these stories sound familiar to me... the teachers on a power trip, the lunch passes (oh yes), the facist-like adherence to school uniform yadda yadda yadda. The only thing we didn't have was students being banned from taking exams (mainly because an E was considered a f***ing miracle). But yes, my school had its 'reputation' to uphold, cos it used to be the local Grammar, and the hypocrisy was sickening at times. But I figure that's just *school*. Do really think if you'd gone anywhere else it'd have been better? And having a GMS school on your CV is going to get you a lot further than mine ever will. On the other hand, I'm probably just annoyed that I have nowhere like this to b***h about my own 7 pathetic little years. ;-)

Kids with Dyslexia?
Thursday, 08-Feb-01 19:42:08

The other day, while sitting in my room at university I idly thought about my seven-year rollercoster ride at QE Boys. Maybe it was heavy uni workload (or the stuff that my roommate just smoked) but I started to feel kinda… sad… (no that isn’t the right word) empty… maybe that is about the school that I’d left.

I came to the school way back in the good old days of 1993. Rave music filled the air as the prodigy were sending people into ‘out of space’. The Internet was a way for guys called ‘Norman’ to write about the technical inaccuracies of Jurassic park and the computer rooms at QE were filled to the brim with BBC Micros that had turned an off white colour….ah those were the days.

Anyway I can’t say that I hated my time at QE (I did most of the time). Then again I can’t say I liked it much either. I had some positive experiences with some teachers and some particularly unpleasant experiences with some teachers. But like anything a school is only what you choose to make of it.

The thing that triggered this forced trip down the titled hallways of QE was brought on by a Dyslexia test that I took here at university. It turned out that I did have a problem. Yet I found it hard to believe that for 7 years I went to a place that did not recognise that I had a problem. Throughout my whole time there I was made to feel as if I was lazy, or stupid just because not one person their picked up on this. Or maybe they did. Many years ago, I was in top set history. Don’t ask how I got there but I found my self there. I was good at history, except for writing essays in which I struggled a lot. Then one day the teacher was passed an internal memo. Right in front of the class he asked me over to his table and asked me to read a paragraph out of a book. Thinking that this was very strange I tried but I found my self stumbling at every word. All my classmates found this very amusing!!! I did not. Shortly after this I found my self fall down set after set until I found myself in the bottom set. At one stage I used to get help with my spelling during Games time. In the computer room with the special needs teacher using a computer program (on the BBCs) to lean how to spell babyish words like CAT and DOG. This didn’t help.

After speaking to my DANs tutor at Uni I found out that the school had suspected it all along but the reason why they did not ever get me to take a test was that it would have cost the school a great deal of money to provide me and others like me with the things that we need to learn like everybody else.

I find it hard to say that I am angry with the decision the school took but I now think how different things would have been if I found out earlier. Would I have got better GCSE grades? Would I have been allowed to do all A levels? Would I have more self confidence from not been made out to feel like the stupid looser I was made out to feel like, who knows. One thing that I feel proud of is that the results and achievements I made at the school were all mine. I did it on my own without any extra help. I ended up on a good course in a great university and I have my self and those few teachers who believed in me to thank for that.

Yet there must be loads of kids like me in that school who have problems with reading, spelling, co-ordination or math that wind up in bottom sets and wonder why.

The school is failing them because it does not want to believe that kids like that can possible exist in a school that’s one of the top 10 in England.

If you met me, you'll know me...

Tuesday, 06-Feb-01 18:25:46

Some people are saying that we shouldn't be so harsh on the system, and if they find out who typed all the messages they will come after us. f*****g BOTHERED, q.e messed up my academic life, they tell u that you can't do A Levels based on your GCSE predictions, I was predicted A's in Geography, History and English and for some reason they would not let me take any A levels at that whole of the school, since the first year I did everything for the school and for what. Once they said I could not do A Levels they just forgot about me, SO if you do find out who am i i am not bothered because every1 ius starting to realise what a s*** school Q.E is and how they use students as numbers and not people, i hope as many people as possible read this so they can get out as quick as possible for this dump !

Winging
Friday, 02-Feb-01 20:19:16

    WHY

Press coverage, QE Boys opens doors for us in jobs, uni and give us character which will last for life - you FOOL if QE becomes the biggest failure then all you winging gits out there would have winged and endured your so called 'torment' for nothing!!!!!

You're home by about 4:30, don't you have a life, friends or rather let a detention dominate your conscious life. Look it may not be like all your mates schools were they have rampant sex and the rest, but it has some of the best teachers you are likely to get.

    name them.

Who treats you like an equal, you don't have the um 'right' to insult teachers as you might be a to**er and you might deserve to be treated like that. So you aren't - whats good? Who's worth a mention, give them credit THEY DESERVE IT!

and stop winging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! torment, strife tyranny, b******s LOOSERS I've still got GCSE's and plan to continue for my A levels and couldn't really care about litter duty??????

Press coverage?

Can't say I'm as fully committed to what you're all doing as most of you seem to be - good to say these things, sure, though I'm happy to put what's past behind me, and there are worse torments occurring in the world - but what, if any, local press coverage has this site had.
    And if not, why not?
Surely the local Times or the Press would recognise a good local education knocking story if it was thrust under their noses?
I've moved away from the area, so forgive me if there has been coverage, or attempts to win space in the pages parents or prospective parents are likely to come across. But if not, surely it's worth a go.
Trust me, just one article knocking a school, even tucked away on page 23 between the restaurant reviews and the small ads, is liable to be, within hours, photocopied 100 times and filtered by lightning delivery onto staffroom walls, local High Street lamp-posts, polite society drawing rooms. . .
Well, you get my drift. . .

Internet Policay... what?
Wednesday, 24-Jan-01 11:46:23

    Hi.

I used to go to QE Boys. I'm not going to go into that now.
I do think that some things you guys are saying can be slightly OTT, but who decided that we cannot have freedom of speech? I won't go into all the constitution rubbish now, but why should the school be `excluding' students for stating their opinion. Now I hear that `defamatory' (what happened to English?) content has been placed on web-sites. I haven't seen this content - I don't know how `defamatory' it was, but the school seems to be reacting very harshly.

This site is for people who are coming to look at the other side of QE not for any internet viewer who's mind may be swayed into thinking or even caring that a teacher is (actually) not that good/nice.

Obviously QE cannot be perfect, but maybe, no definitely, it should take the criticisms on this site and try and work on them.

Or, even better, why doesn't someone create a Student Union which tells the school the main problems (in a calm way) and works with the school to improve things (but this would lessen the chance to rebel against the school and say it's bad :) ). Student Unions do exist in other schools, well I know 1 school where they have one. Their SU managed to do a lot including changing the school uniform (that's not what I'm suggesting!:) ). Anyway all I can say is say what is useful, but be careful. Don't go too far. It is not necessary to name teachers - the school can't even complain you're defaming (is that really a word?) particular teachers if you don't name them.

Anyway I got my own problems.
    Good Luck.

    you know me

CIA-Yeh right!
Wednesday, 24-Jan-01 08:48:22

I couldn't believe it when I found out this site existed. It is all true. The school is very strange and theire is definately something dodgy going on with all the teachers. They don't teach 'cause they want to. They teach because they love the power of being able to make young boys embarressed in front of everyone. I left the school in 1999 and it was the best day of my life! I regret going there and would not reccomend it to anybody. The teachers are serious nasty ba##?>ds!!
And about the school getting the CIA on to this site-The CIA are in America!
My parents are both solicitors and believe me, there is nothing wrong with freedom of speech.
I was bullied at QE Boys and they chose to ignore it. I had blood running down my face once and when I told Mr Oulton, he said 'By laughing with your friends, you were inviting the bullies to play with you'!!! Can you believe that!!
He is a lier, for many reasons of which I don't have time to list.
The only teacher I liked was Miss Lefteri (Miss Gill). She was the only one who helped me with my art work. She actually wanted to help me!

Tuesday, 23-Jan-01 06:30:11

Now I dont know whether this is a fond memory or an example of the conformist/non individuality nature of the school (poor grammar, sorry Mr Lee!). But if someone fell in the playground, or some other accident (even missing an open goal) the whole playground would end up going aaahhh.aaaah. aaaah. aaaaahhh. Remember? Indeed a few people did it to me once for no reason - it was funny I guess, indeed an experiment, but the whole 4th and 5th year playground ended up going aaahhh, aaaaahhh , aaaaahhh. Im sure they didnt know why. But it is funny to look back on though, especially Mr Oulton looking out his office wondering what was going on (Now there was a good teacher - indeed whole history department - Sugden, Sandyswood [never got sidetracked-note]-but then again I never had Mr Kolczynski, a strange man) Sorry to get sidetracked.
In short - no individuality, all part of the QE Boys team paying off our debt to old prefects who have worked so to make us proud to be Elizabethans (irony, thank you Mr Jones, cycnical and knows the way things really are)

It's been awhile since I last wrote anything here.

    So here's a question...

What is the stage in the Hall used for, except assembly with it's crappy "Morals plays" that everyone slept through? (Although Mr. Lewis does try to do as much as he can with it)

Why aren't their any Productions anymore?

Is it because it's not seem as academically viable for students to be learning scripts, when they have detentions and suspension to be getting on with?

I know for a fact it might even help those involved by giving them a welcome break between h/w and TV!

And it would provide the school with much neded funds for the school (for instance a new minibus, some new equipment for the Design dept., a facelift for the older science labs, some new windows for the Fern building, some thicker walls for the 6th Form block, or even a supply of brown shirts for Dr.Macs right hand boys!

Just to say.....
Sunday, 21-Jan-01 15:34:27

    Just to say,

I was always put down at QE Boy's.

When I became ill with ME, I was treated extremely poorly by the school:-

They didn’t provide any home education as they’re recommended to do.
They attempted to prevent me from taking any of my GCSE.
They practically forgot that I existed.
They did the least they could legally do for me.

I left and joined JFS (Jews Free School, Camden) and I realised what I missed when I was at QE; good teachers and a caring environment.

Whilst at JFS, I founded soJewish.com (now TotallyJewish.com) and sold it to a London Stock Exchange listed company to become Europe’s youngest paper ‘millionaire’ (The Sunday Times Rich List 2000).

Since finishing JFS, I’ve become the Chief Executive Officer of the CyberBritain Group plc (www.cyberbritain.com), a leading search engine technology provider (the company is now worth over £20,000,000 – ITN 2001).

Had QE been nice to me they may have got the “good press” that I generated for JFS; the story appeared in 35 national newspapers across the globe and on the BBC, CNN, ITV and many more.

So effectively a chance to stick my tongue out at QE and say “look what you missed out on!”

I’d love to hear of any other ‘QE failures’ that turned out to be success stories.

When I have a chance I’ll tell the press all about QE Boys(in a non-libelous way)

    Best wishes,

the "do you think I'm stupid" bloke and other issues
Sunday, 21-Jan-01 15:18:08

I was just wondering how this pupil actually got in to QE Boy's considering his appalling use of the English language.

    Here’s some examples:-
“a few unressinable duties like litter duty and refector duty” – learn to spell please!
    “trouble. i have” poor punctuation!
    “hit teachers anbd trust me”
“Another school i know does interviews”
“afecting my learning cause they r sreaming” – I’ve never heard of these words!
    “all i recomend” spelling, grammar
“we are succesful” – ‘s’ missing in successful
    “close this catostrophe” spelling
    “Chao” spelling

    Obviously the standards are slipping!

If a teacher at QE were marking these messages it would definitely get a U0!

If QE are intent on shutting down this message board then they should use a pupil who can spell or at least invest in a dictionary.

The teaching at QE was always mixed; they achieve good results by weeding out anyone who will disappoint them. Why do you think that the GCSE results are so poor compared to the A-Level results?

I actually left QE Boys because the teaching was too poor and I wanted to be taught by people who have a passion and a degree in the subject they teach. No other school would have an unqualified lunatic (Mr. Davidson) teaching GCSE English and GCSE Geography classes for a year.

One day the world will know the truth about QE Boy's, that day wouldn’t come a day too soon for me.

The early nintees - those were the days
Sunday, 21-Jan-01 05:37:35

For those of you who were at QE Boy's in the early ninetees.....

Who remembers Mr Winfield? A cool and radical dude and a good teacher if you listened to him. He told us that E.H was trying to get rid of him, and Houston was always peering in to his classroom to check up on him. Unfortunately, the poor bloke had a heart attack and that was the last we saw of him.....Does anyone know where he is now?

Mr Borderly is now apparently teaching at East Barnet School.....This is where Mr Davis and Miss Authers started out. Allegedly, Miss Authers was then a big softie. So soft, in fact, that her classes paid no attention. She left education for a while and went to work for an insurence company. Good job she changed her mind and applied for a job at QE. The best physics teacher of all time....

Remember Mr Gaze?? The head of languages, but spoke frence and german with a cockney accent...we learnt a lot from him...NOT.

How on this earth was Mr Marston allowed to teach for so long. Did he ever actually teach drama in his drama classes? NO, he taught AVR (remember that - oh yes). He had his favorites in each class and generally spent every lesson flirting with them. Importantely, though, he was NOT sacked for offences against any particular boys. The school had decided to convert to R&P classes and Mr Marston had had so many complaints against him (and was a s--- english teacher) that E.H probably suggested he leave, before he was pushed (ring any bells chabs??).

Mr Poole married the old french teacher, Miss Scott. Good choice Mr Poole....I fancied her myself when I was in her class.

OK, finally, who remembers MS G.V Gunn (english teacher) and Ms Lee (the chineese geography teacher)? There was some talk of them being lovers (alleged of course)?? Did Miss Authers not once slap Mr Treadwin for asking her out? Does Mr Bilton actually have qualifications to teach design? Why is Mr Clift (either one) not headmaster? Why does Mrs Boreland have her own office? Did she buy it? Mr Treadwin was, in fact, one of the best teachers I has at QE Boys. He once worked as a brick salesman, but had a change of heart and trainned as a teacher.

Sorry to have bored you so much....
