Guthery (If that's how you spell it)
Monday, 18-Sep-00 20:17:59

Anyone remember the scandal when Guthery got stuck under a cupboard 'cos it fell on him when he was looking for his hidden booze? Well, it was infamouis whatever - by the way maybe this message board is turning into a reunion, not a forum for debate, or something. However, I think that there is some real substance beneath the slap-dash comments made here. Erm, that's it.

Has anyone actually fully picked up on this latest scandal. I know it is mentioned briefly in Nick's message, but rumour has it, Dr. Mac's insistence of a wood panelled office for himself was a great cost. If somebody ants to try and get some valuable info on this scandal, please inform me, or the author of this page. Remember, don't let the truth be hidden REFUSE/RESIST!

Houston
Saturday, 09-Sep-00 06:24:31

In response to RYMAN's submitted article regarding Houston, i would like to add to it.
Firstly i must admit that i bear no distaste to Houston's methods of making us s*** scared of him. Hey, it worked on me thats for sure. If i werem't scared of him then i would have carried on misbehaving.
I want to add, though, that he is a man who thinks all too highly of himself.
-He would always humour the class at the expense of a poor chap.
-Once, when he began to question me after my final GCSE exam he made a very sarcastic retort aimed at me. As i was not listening to his ranting, i did not hear his comment and asked him to repeat. He just looked at me in such superiority and made another retort aimed at my intelligence: "ha, i didnt expect you to understand"....I cant stand arrogance like that. So what, the man specialises in the English Language, it makes his neither Mother Teresa nor God. Remember is dosen't take a clever person to be an intellectual.

The most common name in the staff rooms!

Physics Teacher

Can anyone remember the name of the physics teacher that joined the school in 1994 and left at the end of a term as of the problems he had at school and ended up geting drunk and stagging aroung on his desk in front of his class wearing a plastic bag on his head?

More stories about life at QE:

31: Mrs Fuller couldn't teach a lesson without spending at least 10 minues, talking about her family. She especially liked to tell the story about her husband, who as a former QE Boys school captain, ended up failing all his A levels because he spent so much time organizing things for the school. When she wasn't pregnant, Mrs Fuller looked quite foxy!
32: Fit teachers: Miss Catlow, Miss Tester, Miss Nelson (she had good assets).
33: MR BORDERLY: This needs some serious discussion. What was going on there? In one lesson, meaning that we were sitting talking amongst ourselves while Borderly (Old Man) muttered to himself, Houston walked in and wispered something to the Old Man. Houston buggered off, and the Old Man told us to pak up our books, and prepare for 'Borderly's Barnet Walk'. He then took us on a walk around Barnet.
NOTE: The Old Man was a loony - no doubt about it.
34: Before the tuck shop was built, the coke machine used to live there. Also in that cubby hole was a wire create. One lunchtime, for a laugh, a 5th former decided to get into this create. Unfortunaly for him, somone produced out of nowhere, a padlock, and proceeded to sit on the create long enough to lock him in. They left him there, and was found at 215pm (the old change over time between lessond 6 and 7) by ginger Mr Phillips. The kid wouldn't grass.
35: There is, and always has been, a serious problem with drainage on 3rd field. Gordon Moody, the grouldsman with the beard - also known as BOB) acts in exactly the same way as Ted from the Fast Show, but without the west country accent.
36: Bob had a large grey van. One wednesday afternoon, I SWAER THIS IS TRUE, Bob was in the school car park, with a sign on the side of the van saying: 'Oil Drums for Sale'. There were a stack of oil drums in the car park. WTF?!
37: Mr Hallet had 2 problems. His dog, and his BO. His dog was thick, and on detention once with another boy outside Hallet's office, we fed his dog rice cakes. The noice the dog chewed them was phenominal. CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH. Hallet never did not have wet patches under his arms. To put it simply, he stank.
38: Then a news crew came to take some shots of the school when I was in the 2nd year, they gave us maths books, and told us to read them in the 2nd year playground at lunchtime, thus giving the impression that we spent our lunchtimes swatting.

Juicy stories
Monday, 28-Aug-00 05:58:37

As a former pupil of QE Boys, (I left in 1998 - work it out) i'd like to share some interesting stories about the school.

1:) HM Harris: Found drunk and incapable in his office with Mr Fitch on a Friday afternoon in Summer 1997. They had been celebrating a swift 'informal' school inspection, whereby HM Harris walked round the school with a pocket dictaphone, commenting every now and again about how the 'ChaBs' will become well rounded young men.
2:) Mr Fitch enjoys his lunchtime trips to the pub. (esp. the Black Horse by Ravenscroft Park)
He once came back from the pub and decided to pin a pupil up against the wall and choke his neck. He also once gave another pupil 'The Slipper'. Work it out.
3:) You may not know this, but there is a gun store next to the 3rd year bogs. CCF Captains have keys to this store, and often take their girlfriends there after dark.
4:) A pupil and a female teacher were once caught having sex in the Art department office. The teacher was in her first job, and was very, very fit. (you know who I mean)
5:) When John Marincowitz was interviewed for a news programme, they got his name wrong and put a caption up saying Bob Marcowitz.
6:) One of the assistant groundsmen was mowing 3rd field one day with an old petrol lawn mower and got his foot caught in the blade. This resulted in him losing 2 toes. (this was a very famous incident)
7:) In the most infamous incident of the all, John Marincowitz was punched out but a 6th former in 1996 or 1997 in the 3rd year playground. The 6th former then ran off, only to return a few hours later, when Mr Duffield and Mr Evans (Welsh twat games teacher, who was also a minicab driver, with his eyes pressed back in his head) claimed to throw him out of the gates.
8:) Mr Relton (games teacher, left in 1993 and rode a BMW motorbike) often used to sleep in the Games office, which at the time wasn't the big office next to the weights, but was a VERY small, and VERY smelly cupboard, next to the spare kit chest in the games changing rooms.
9:) Mr Relton has numerous affairs with other teachers.
10:) Mr Maughn's glass eye was a result of a disasterous rugby tackle whilst he was playing for England A rugby team in the late 1970s. His eye, apparently, fell out of the socket and got lost in the mud in the rugby field. The worrying thing is, is that he's allowed to drive.
11:) The Huts, (used to be where the 6th form block now is) was often used as a shelter for 'Supertramp', the now deceased tramp who also lived in the doorway of QE Girls. Unfortuatly for Supertramp, the huts were also a regular target for window smashing and grafitti tagging but local kids. Supertramp once had the s--- kicked out of him by kids, who broke in while he was asleep.
12:) The fence behind the 4th/5th year playground bogs which back onto houses, were once kicked down one night by a disgruntled pupil.
13:) On Fireworks night in 1990, a group of 6th formers gathered at about 9pm in the cricket hut on Staplyton field, dumped a load of firecrakers and bangers in it, chucked a petrol bomb through a window, and blew it up. This is what caused the hut to burn down. The school, however, covered this up, and claimed that the hut had burnt down due to a wrongly stored cannister of petrol for the lawnmowers.
14:) The Art department does not allow female nude models, and insist of making all the GCSE and A Level art students draw naked old men. It is rumoured that one of the old male models is Mr West's father.
15:) Over £250,000 was spent by John Marincowitz on his new office. He has oak paneling in there you know.
16:) Mr Tredwin was run over by a runaway shopping trolly, that had broken loose from the cluster the Sainsburys employee was pushing. Tredwin was off school for 3 weeks. This incident occured at Sainsburys in New Barnet.
17:) Mr Tredwin was ditched at the alter by his fionce.
(note: Mr Tredwin was one of the good guys, and is a genuinly good teacher, who actually gave a damn about his pupils. Only problem was, was that he was a total bastard to you if he didn't know you)
18:) If you want to wreak havoc, wait until the school secretary has gone for a p***, go into the school office, and ring the school buzzer. You do this by flicking the top right swich UP in the little cover wall box, which is right underneath the mock grandfather clock on the wall to the right of the secretarys desk.
19:) Mr Marsden 'sexed' a pupil. He invited him to go to his flat in Mornington Crescent one Saturday, and while the boy was studying, Marsden went out the room and came back in wearing nothing but a feather scarf. Marsden left the school shortly afterwards.
20:) Merek Koljinski is a very bitter man. He does all the work, and is still only the deputy head. He's a good bloke, and I feel sorry for him. But he's a s--- history teacher. Mr Sugdon , on the other hand, was the DOGS BOLLOCKS! If you never saw Sugs run from the front of his classroom (room J) to the back and jump up onto the cabinets, and then proceed to climb about on the top of some very old and wobbly book cases, you missed out.
21:) Mr Houston will never be a HeadMaster at QE, due to an incident when he himself was a pupil at the school.
22:) Mr Shirley is the DON, and when he takes you for a lesson, you will have a right laugh.
23:) Mr Oulton once grew a totally s***ty moustache. Everyone took the p***. He shaved it off.
24:) Mr Davis also once tried to grow a beard, and failed miserably, because all he could manage was bumfluff.
25:) Ms D'Arcy (later Mrs D'Arcy Goldthorp) used didn't realise that one of her maths pupils had gone to get his hair cut during her lesson. He had asked to go to the bogs, and returned 45 mins later with a grade 2.
26:) Mr Guthrie owns a castle in Scotland. Never have you heard so many sniggers when Mr Guthrie was talking on the megaphone when there was a whole school fire drill. His noise was totally and utternly incomprehensable.
27:) In 1998, 4 pupils were expelled for smoking weed in the school car park.
28:) In 1996, the school 'hired' 2 goody goody 6th formers (AND PAID THEM) to go round the pubs in Barnet at lunch time, and 'arrest' any of their collegues who were in there having a swift one.
29:) DAVID TAYLOR IS A TWAT. On the last day of school, he went to shake one of his class mates hands, saying it had been a good 7 years. The class mate gave him a snide look, sucked his teeth, and said 'I don't think so' and walked off. This got a round of applause from the others who were standing around.
30:) A boy VERY nearly drowned in the school swimming pool in the early 90s. He was under the water for a couple of minutes before anyone notieced him. Until the day I left in 1998, there still wasn't one bit of safety equipment in the swimming pool.

    That's it for now.

Typical QE Attitude.
Friday, 25-Aug-00 19:57:19

A few of years back, i vividly remember reading an article about this boy from a different school who was buying sweets from a shop and re-selling them at his school for a slightly higher price. He made so much money that he hired two people to look after his stock! When his headmaster found out, he congratulated him on his business acumen, but told him to stop the business.

An almost exact situation happened at QE when i was in the second year. Two boys were buying sweets from the newsagent in the morning, and selling them to other boys during break time. Needless to say, the Headmaster found out. Did these boys receive a congratulations for using good business sense? No, they received a 5 day suspension. TYPICAL QE.

TV Manipulation
Monday, 31-Jul-00 22:28:25

Being a formal pupil, but coming to the school a year late, Channel Four turned up at the school for an aranged meeting in reference to a documentry they were making on the quality of schools nationwide. Being in the second year (aged about 12) but recently joining QE, it was requested of me that I comment on the standards of my formal school, and QE Boys. I entered the HM's office, where half the school cabinet sat, Mr. Houston as well (as I do believe that he never made cabinet for years if at all???)and the Channel Four research team (no cameras by the way). Now it was implied to me before the interview to 'ham up' the schools reputation and its facilities whilst bad-mouthing my former school as much as possible. Being young and intimidated by all the staff I did, not really thinking about the bulls--- I was requested to say. After the interview, I was praised for my "work" and actually recieved a school commendation for my efforts. (rewards for lying per-chance?) This may sound trival, but it is these types of goings on that allow QE Boys' School to pose as some sort of icon of education, something which it clearly is not.

One of many QE Press Scandals
Monday, 31-Jul-00 22:17:12

Hold on, in reply to the Old Elizabethian (below my message maybe?) I have to point out that almost everyone has passionate views about their old school, I went to Q.E and I do. However, this does not in any way support the line of thinking that Q.E Boy's School is by any means a good school to send a son to. Without recapping the other valid points that have already been mentioned, does anyone remember the HUGE media scandal the school was involved in in the early 1990s? Let me fill you in: Amon Harris (Head at the time) realised he could improve the reputation of the school and dispose of troublesome pupils all in one. He therefore carried out what the NATIONAL BROADSHEET MEDIA coined "Amon's Hitlist". He would pick out these "bag egg pupils" in the system, wait for them to break a minor school rule (and I mean minor) and ask the pupil's family to leave, or face expulsion. Clearly, no family wants their son's name blackened so MANY pupils left without the authorities working out Amon's sly little tactics... or so he thought. I'm sure HM Harris wasn't too keen of a cartoon representation plastered up of him on the front page of The Times Educational section. It is scary how people forget these CONTINUING problems of QE.

Old Boys
Sunday, 23-Jul-00 08:45:57

Reminisciences make one feel so deliciously aged and sad.

Having seen a sticker pasted onto a street light, I decided that this site might be worth a visit; and I have to say that while it holds some interesting truths, they're hardly the revalations for which I had hoped. Where's the sex scandal between a certain music teacher and a pupil, the blantant homosexuality of some of the CDT team and, who can forget, the slipper of the crippled science teacher..? Now THESE make for far more interesting reading. Sensationalist - yes. Constructive - maybe no.

Nonetheless, its a site which I feel can only improve with time and input - and technical knowledge.

However, before I go I'll add my ten cent's worth. Though the school may be unashamedly up its own backside, and while *some* of the teachers undoubtedly have a total misunderstanding of teaching, I, being of sound mind and body, am eternally grateful that I went to QE. There was no better school, no better measure of a boy (who became a man) than those who studied there and I for one believe that the Elizabethan's of yesteryear have a duty (and a right) to be proud of what they have become. It saddens me deeply to hear of the helterskelter slide into facelessness that the school has embarked upon, but perhaps it is I who have changed, that my mind be overrun while recollections of days gone by may be true, but *those* were the days! Those were the days of happiness, and I will never regret them, nor wish for different memories.

Not Heav'n itself upon the past has pow'r
But what has been, has been, and I have had my hour.

This is precisely why there isn't a message board on my QEB site (see the links page). By filling the message board with stupid, irrelevant comments you cheapen the (almost) serious message conveyed by these sites. If you wanna write a bunch of s***, build your own site-it's f***ing easy.

Also, less of the homophobia (I know there's some in the 'anti-mission-statement, but this is a JOKE). I realise you are young and this is your only means of retaining your masculinity in the unnatural construct of a single-sex school. 10% of your friends, enemies and teachers are gay, which means at some point in your life you'll have to deal with it, or become like that nazi tosspot.
Just like rascism, homophobia has no place in a modern, intelligent society. Let's hope you sort out your mindset before you leave the confines of QEBS.

Let's see some more sites up soon also! Hate sites: It's the new rock'n roll. It's the new punk. It's the new jungle. And it's even the new f***in' garage (perhaps).

Q E Boys is a good school but talk about pressure ! ! ! They rely on people getting good results so that they look good to prospective parents. They dont have the students as a main priority, which is wrong. I'm sure that many people dissapprove of the way the school is structured and i hope that more people write in and complain or just express their views.
Some "commendation" should go to the teachers that do give a stuff about their pupils, such as those in the Science dept. and in a certain group who are all too obvious every friday luchtime in the pub. I'm not sure if i should say that but they dont know who i am so who cares???

Some of the facilities in the school are great, no really. I mainly prefer the outside toilets, never free from p*** on the floor, flies in the air and s--- on the walls (it happens). Maybe its the junior changing rooms that air quality for me also. However, we must not forget the wooden huts, that till late, were standard class rooms. I loved learning and gazing out across the field...through holes in the walls.

This isn't some crappy rebellion against the school, its a serious issue about the propaganda they feed people only to actually not allow pupils to take exams if they aren't going to achieve a C or above. This is tantamount to lying on the league tables results. It shouldn't even be able to call itself a school.
