HOLY SPIRIT

As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. Mark 1:10

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only
Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish
but may have eternal life. John 3:16

We know that God is the Father. We know that Jesus is the son who suffered and died on the cross to give us eternal life. We know that we are baptized in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. This is the Trinity, the three person's of God, and yes, the Holy Spirit is a person.

"But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will
guide you into all truth." John 16:13

It's important to know that the Holy Spirit is a person. As John 16:13 shows, Jesus talks of the Holy Spirit as "he", not it. The Apostle Paul also talks of the Holy Spirit as a "he."

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. Romans 8:26-27

Most of all, we can think of the Holy Spirit as our friend, and advocate, as our teacher, as the giver of God's gifts, as the one who opens our eyes and brings us knowledge of God. In Ephesians, chapter 3, Paul prays that we will be strengthened by the Holy Spirit and that we will be filled with the fullness of God.

"But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you." John 14:26

We know that Jesus is our advocate to the father. According to John 14:26, the Holy Spirit is also our advocate. He is our teacher and our conscience. He will guide us in all things.

"If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" Luke 11:13

The bible encourages us to seek out the Holy Spirit and ask for the things that the Holy Spirit has to give. We should ask for the strength of the Spirit and for him to fill us with his fullness which is the fullness of God. If we are not experiencing the fullness of the Holy Spirit, it is because we haven't ask for it. The wonderful words of the following song speak to this:

Spirit of the Living God
Fall fresh on me.
Spirit of the Living God
Fall fresh on me.
Melt me, mold me.
Fill me, use me.
Spirit of the Living God
Fall fresh on me.
