Durst Theodorus Eby was a miller by trade.
Theordorus left Switzerland about 1704 to Germany and remained there
untill
about 1715.
Theodorus arrived in Pennsylvania about 1715, as part of the mennonite
movement, when agents of William Penn offered free homes to
religious persons
to avoid the persacution in Europe. He settled on Mill Creek
Lancaster County
at Roland's Mill. In 1720 he was joined by a relative, Peter Eby. In
1728 two
persons were naturalizd under the name Abye, probably sons of either
Peter or
Theodorus.
Theodorus Eby was a neighbor to Henry (Pare) Bear on the Conestoga,
settled
along Mill Creek about 1721. By 31 May 1726, Theodore had built a
mill on Mill
Creek, where it crossed Peter's Road in Earl Township. He was
granted a warrant
dated 10 May 1718 for 300 acres in what is now the southeastern
quadrant of the
city of Lancaster. Theodorus' daughter was married to John Henry
(Heinrich)
Bear (Baehr), probably prior to their departure from Germany.

July 1985, vol 4, pg 101. Caption reads: Theordorus Eby (1663-1727)
was born in
Zurich, Switzerland, came to America in 1715 and settled south of
New Holland
opposite Zeltenreich Church on the banks of the Mill Creek facing
the Peters
Road. This Stone is in Eby's Cemetery at Hammer Creek, although it
is believed
he is buried on his farm.
Mennonite Family History: Jan 1994; This article local records to
recreate the
possible passengers who probably arrived in Aug 1717. A Warrant in
1718 and Tax
list for 1718, is the first time Durs Eby is found, and indicates
that his
family was probably among the 363 some odd passengers who arrived 24
Aug 1717.
