Dear Mr. Atacan,

I am a recent college graduate and I'm looking for an apartment in the Olde City area.  I'm not originally from Philadelphia, but my old dorm roommate says you're the source when it comes to finding living space in the City of Brotherly Love.  I'm from old money who live in a non-descript castle somewhere on the West Coast, so cost is not a problem.  I may be loaded, but I definitely don't know how to do things on my own, which is why I'm coming to you with my housing needs.  I guess I'm spoiled from growing up in that damn castle.  My only stipulation is that the apartment be symmetrical, so that in the event my roommate and I (His name is Grumpkus) have a disagreement, we can settle the disagreement by painting a white line down the center of the apartment, theoretically spilting the apartment in half.  I'm sure no problems could arise from a situation such as that one.  Anyway... whatever help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.  God bless America.  By the way, I was very impressed by your award-winning website.

P.S.  Even though I hold a Masters Degree in British Literature, I'm afraid I don't know much about real estate.  What makes it "real" estate?  Is there such a thing as "fake" estate?
Jackson recently received a response.

Jackson:
Thank you for writing! Rarely do we receive such a pleasant and well written e-mail! I apologize for taking 3 days to return your e-mail, usually you can expect a response immediately. However, we have been unbelievably busy for this time of year. The real estate market is about as strong as it was last spring, which is unheard of at the end of December. I believe that this is due in part to the low interest rates, as well as the volatility of the stock market. We specialize in helping first time buyers from finding you the right mortgage for your individual financial situation, to referring you to reputable movers & contractors. It would be our pleasure to assist you find your next home. We make sure that our clients find the entire process very easy and fun!

The first 2 steps in finding you a property is to determine exactly what you are looking for in your next home.  You mentioned you would like a large 2 bedroom in Old City that can be easily divided in times of crisis. Attached by link is every 2 bedroom for sale in Old City. Some you will love, some you will hate, but it is best that you take a look most of them on your first appointment so we know exactly what you want. Once we understand this, you only need to see the new listings that meet your criteria and will not be a waste of your time.

The inventory is very low right now, but we expect to improve after the first of the year. Antonio will be listing two new 2 bedrooms in January in the $180-$200K price range. The second step is to get you pre-approved for a mortgage. We strongly recommend that you start the process with our in-house banker. This is because he will gather all the information that you need for your e-approval over the phone and their will be no cost or obligation to you. You should do this as soon as possible because you will be prepared and able to make an offer on any property you find and this will help you avoid any surprises. We have seen clients lose the home of their dreams in bidding wars because they did not have their finances line up. After you identify the property that you want, you can shop for different mortgage rates, but most likely it will be difficult to find better rates because our company is very competitivie & will try to beat any rate that you find.  Please fell free to call him on his mobile anytime. Just let him know you are Antonio's client and he will take excellent care of you!

Finally, I urge you to get on our e-mail list so that you will have a better understanding of the Center City Market and learn about all new listings. I will send you my last update in a separate e-mail. Please let me know if you would like to be added to the list! When you are ready to start looking at some properties, just call or e-mail and I will have Antonio contact you to set an appointment. We greatly look forward to working with you and helping you find your next home.

Warm Regards,
Mrs. Atacan

P.S. The term real estate originates from 17th Century English Common Law, I guess Beowolf didn't touch on that topic, eh!

Fuv Ma' Poppin' Finds God By Way of George Clooney:

Ocean wasn't enough. Ocean 2: Electric Boogaloo wasn't enough. Nor were Oceans 3 through 10. But no more. Ocean's 11 has come out, and I have found god. Good lord, this was a great movie. It has instantly become my favorite movie without the words "Back to the Future" in the title. Have I mentioned it's great? Oh, my, this was a great movie. But enough about me going on about this movie, how about the movie itself? OK, let's start out. It's a heist film. Not a gangster heist film, mind you, but a "civilian guys gone bad" type. It gives you the feeling inside, "Yeah, I could do this. I could be this bad ass".  Secondly, this has the greatest ensemble cast of any movie in the last few years. Considering that only 'Rat Race' has had any real ensemble cast in the last few years (at least, the only real commercial movie with such a cast, not counting smaller movies like Magnolia), this is not that great a distinction by name.

But beyond it's comparison to Rat Race, the cast is really excellent. George Clooney, who I've never been a fan of, is a great smarmy ex-con. Brad Pitt plays an excellent...well, side man to George Clooney, basically; I don't remember any distinct role he had in the heist, though he did do a mean impersonation of a doctor towards the end of the film. Andy Garcia plays one badass-mother, who is still a cordial hotel manager and who owns at least three casinos in Las Vegas. Matt Damon is a great nerd who comes through in the end. And there was no pun intended there, folks. Really. Julia Roberts is, well, Julia Roberts, for lack of a better term. She does really well in the small role she has, though in her first scene, they really screw up her lighting, and she looks, to quote the guy sitting behind me at the theater, "freakin' hideous", but that's no fault of her own.

There's a bunch of others in the movie, but there are so many that I can't really go into it. Bernie Mac shines, as does Carl Reiner, I might add. Next, I have to praise the soundtrack. I had this one lick in my head for about a half hour after it was done, and it only stopped going around in my head after hearing loud Christmas music blasting in my ear. It's really jazzy, and it sticks aroung for nearly all of the movie to great efffect. I can't really describe the coolness of this movie in words. The only question I can ask you is: Are you in, or are you out?
