Very little is known about Roy Harper's mother, his father died when he was very young and the three year old orphan was adopted by a Navajo tribe in Arizona who had known his father well. Torn between two worlds Roy chose the Indian one and submerged himself in their culture. His adoptive father, Brave Bow, taught him to be one the greatest archers in the world. Because of his love of archery Roy closely followed the exploits of Green Arrow, Oliver Queen. When Brave Bow began to die of liver cancer the old man asked Green Arrow to take him in. The thirteen year old Roy was given the name Speedy and his very first costume. Though the two were very close partners they began to drift apart when in their secret identities, a gap that widened even further when Ollie joined the JLA. Roy, in turn, became one of the founding members of the Teen Titans. Ollie stepped out of Roy's life for a trip around the country with Black Canary and Green Lantern after he lost his fortune and the abandoned Roy turned to drugs for comfort. He broke the habit with the help of the Black Canary and resumed his superhero career. He re-joined the Teen Titans for a time where he fell in love with villainess Cheshire. The two have a daughter Lian whom Roy has custody over. He also joined the DEA and moved up to the CBI or Checkmate doing undercover work for the government. Moving further and further away from his identity as Green Arrow's sidekick Roy took on the name Arsenal and after several different costumes settled on a new look. After he was brainwashed into attempting to kill Ollie the two reconciled and Roy admitted that Ollie was like a father to him mere months before Oliver died in a plane crash. He briefly led the new Teen Titans and then settled down to raise his daughter. Recently the original Titans re-grouped and the team is back in action under the leadership of Nightwing.
