Adopted by her uncle, GCPD Commissioner James Gordon after the death of her parents, Barbara Gordon was raised to believe in the high ideals of law and justice. It was this belief combined with a schoolgirl crush on The Batman that led her to make a costume and become Batgirl. She gained his attentions (though unintentionally) when she saved a party-bound Bruce Wayne from supervillian Killer Moth. Shortly after deciding it was time to hang up the tights, tragedy struck. A vicious attack by the Joker left Barbara crippled and wheelchair bound. But while the body was broken, the fiery spirit of a young woman burned on. Using funding from Wayne Corp and the “sin tax” she deducts from the secret bank accounts of prominent criminals, Barbara established a revolutionary network of informants spanning the globe and the Internet. Adopting the alias “Oracle”, Barbara first aided the U.S. government sponsored “Suicide Squad”. She then went freelance, monitoring various crises around the globe and dispatching metahumans capable of proving aid. This role brought her into close contact with Black Canary (Dinah Lance) and made her an indispensable part of the current JLA. Bio by Matthew Morrison
