more from Eiki Eiki
When Tsuda Mikiyo-sensei was creating Princess Princess, best friend and fellow mangaka was creating Train*Train. Together, they created the doujins TrainxPrincess and PrincessxTrain for each of their series. In order to read the entirety of the doujin, you need both series. Happily, ANN just announced that Train*Train is licensed by DMP and will be out in 2009. *dances around the room* I will happily wait for the entire series (3 vol.) to be out. ^.^

peaches on the go
There was a farmers market outside of Bklyn. Sup. Crt. today. I was in the area for an appt. with an attorney. Since I was early, I went around the market sampling the fruits that they cut up. My fav were the peaches. Mmm...they were so yummy! I wanted to buy a whole bunch...but I wouldn't have time to eat them before I meet the client. ^^; It was a wonderful way to eat lunch.

cons = major expense
My con budget is straining so much. >.< But for the sake of a less stressful con, I pay more. ^^; I just got the VIP pass for NYAF which is super expensive...it cost about 3 weekend tickets! *dies* I'm not going to extol the virtues of the great pass, but I'm happy that I don't need to worry about grabbing autograph tickets for Amano-san and Rie Tanaka-san. ^^; (Yes, they instilled the need-ticket-for-autographs process from NYCC.) I have more things I need to do to plan for this con...but need to get through Otakon first. ^.^
cosplay...still in the process
My to-do list....
1. Complete Kamui cosplay
2. Complete Tomoyo-hime cosplay
3. Create summaries for yaoi archive
I have nothing to stay. *stares*
stuff I bought!
As a reward for finally submitting my essay to AEON (regardless of their response,) I bought myself the regular set of Loveless trading cards. I got a good price off eBay. I'm planning to get the SP and promo cards slowly...I'm just happy to get these cards as a set!
Non-anime related, I bought 'Mirador' by Sarah Monette. I still thank falmitht for introducing me to this series with book 1, 'Melusine'. Already from the summary at the back, I'm glad to say I won't be hating on the main character as I did in the second book since I will instead be pissed off at his brother's girlfriend. (I'm already not liking her since her presense keeps the brothers from their wonderful incestuous moments. lol)

Junjou's second season announcement!
Such good timing.... I finally buckled down and watched all of Junjou Romantica anime. When the anime was slated to be out, they decided on 24 episodes, making it the first BL related series to go past 13 episodes. (Sukisyo previously held that honor of being 'longest running series' since they have 12 tv episodes and one special.) However, at after the 12th episode aired in June, they announced it as the last episode to the shock of fujoshi everywhere. Guess it's only a break since ANN confirmed that the second season (the other 12 eps) will be coming in October. *dances around the room* I'm very happy to see the continuation of this series which was able to push the boundaries of the amount of implied and explicit sex shown on tv since it was given a late late timeslot. (12am friday mornings?) More BL please!

And press 'submit'...
I just sent in my application for the AEON teaching program. The full reason why I'm busy with essays lately is because I needed to submit one for the teaching English in Japan program that is done by AEON. I will be going to Japan at the end of the year and my hopes is to go through this program. If not, I will find another job in Japan with the assistance of Japanese friends. I plan to stay in Japan for at least one year and my main location (I hope) will be in Tokyo or another city more to the North (Hokkaido?)
Application process for AEON requires submission of Diploma and college transcripts as well as several interviews with two 'teaching' demos. ^^; Ganbarre, Rai!
another day out...yesterday
I went to see my ex-co-worker KC perform at OCM's performance. They had one last night and one this afternoon. One skit, two endings and it's a musical. So many awesome songs and it was wonderfully executed.

more Iron Chef...America
I met up with Jenn-chan at the cafe at Prince St...completely forgetting that we promised each other to go to the Korean restaurant before. lol Next time.... I had some yummy noodle beef soup which is suppose to be curry but might be the tea sauce that we use for hot pot. ^^; (In any case, it was delicious...I just don't know how to order it next time.) Jenn-chan show off the new beauty products that she bought...adding that to the her endless supply of products. ^^; After dinner, we stopped by PinkBerry where I had my first taste of green tea yogurt...really yummy with a citrus-y taste. Mmmm...oishi....
At her house, we showered and prepared our beds and watched our fav channel...Food Network. Iron Chef America was on with a zucchini battle and we got thoroughly annoyed at one of the judges. Honestly speaking, Iron Chef America has alot of good points. I love Alton Brown as the food commentator and even the over-the-top-dramatics of the host (which made up for his less-then-original outfit) was entertaining in it's own way. However, I will always be pissed at the judges. Me and Jenn discussed the merits of zucchini and veggies as well as the tasty dishes...all without tasting a bit of it. ^.^ 'The Next Food Network Star' was the following show we watched and it was an interesting show which was equally over-the-top since the filming location for the competition was in Las Vegas. Apparently the next one will be in NY...wish I could see it the episode since they will announce the winner next. Oh well, I can always look it up on the internet. ^.^
Morning breakfast was a stop at the bakery. Jenn-chan bought fresh just-made mini egg tarts that literally melts in your mouth in flaky goodness. It was so good! *drools in thought* I had one along with the potato salad bread and beef bread that I bought. (Sleeping 5 hours instead of my usual 3 gives me quite an appetite. ^^V)
another evening with the crew
Since it's animemiz's b-day, I decided to meet up with her after work. After locating her at the library at Bryant Park, we situated ourselves smack in the middle of the steps. We lounged on the chairs for a good while before 801megane, animemiz's sister and a new friend appeared. After the intros, we headed to Book Off and stayed until closing. So many books I want to buy...but...I...must...resist. ^^; We headed to Asahiya to meet up with the rest of the crew...who were 2 more guys. At Asahiya, I drooled over more books, mostly reveling in the awesomeness that is LelouchexSuzaku moments...though I like SuzuxLelou as well.... ^.^ After grossing the guys out (only one out of three don't mind yaoi lol,) we decided to head to Astor place for dinner.
Friday night at Astor place is crowded...which is no surprise. However, Soba-ya (animemiz's first choice for dinner) didn't have a line which was fantastic...but the menu prizes not so. We forgo Soba-ya due to group budget and searched elsewhere. We ended up stopping by for dessert for animemiz and the new guy (in two different areas since they were craving two different things,) before finally deciding to stick to pizza-sandwich-deli place that had no crowds and cheaper food. I had a yummy tuna melt along with crabcakes. Somehow, the evening ended up with all 5 of us (one of the guys left earlier and animemiz's sister left after eating) pulling out our DS' and playing games. I lent the new guy my Jump Ultimate Stars game because it is total win and the rest of us played the taiko drumming game which was also awesome. So much fun! lol We played until past 11pm when we left and went our separate ways. All in all, an enjoyable evening.
One time, we must go to Soba-ya...I heard many good things about that place and I love good food. ^.^
tomorrow...going out again
I'll be going to a musical performance held by OCM. My ex-co-worker, KC is in the play so that'll be treat since he sings very well. Since I'll be heading out, that means my to-do list will be delayed until tomorrow night. Kya! I must get these things done...especially my essay! *cries* For now...I must sleep. Oyasumi! -.-Zzz

back to cosplay
I decided to finish my initial plan to make Kamui...and I'm almost done.
Kamui ~ Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
Process: 85%
Length of time: 11 hrs.
Cost: $46
Cosplay attire: black pants, black turtleneck, black shoes or boots, black socks, silver pendant necklace, short black wig, belt, thigh wrap <.<;
Prep needed: hair needed to be pulled up on head before wig can be placed on, binding chest
Materials that I have: deep red fabric, 2 belt buckle, brown, tan, black and white cloth
I spent most of friday cutting up the pattern for the symbols on the cape. I also ironed on Heat'n Bond onto the pieces prior to cutting...so the entire symbol can be made without sewing. ^.^ I spent most of today making the belt and 'thigh wrap' which is what I'm dubbing that piece that goes around the thigh. ^^; All that is left is to finish the cape. This isn't the best cosplay I'm making, but I'm certainly learning alot from it. Tomorrow, I'll be heading to Flushing (as usual,) but I hope to work on the cape tomorrow night. All I need to do is finish the hood, create the two clasps for the belt buckles and iron on the different pieces for the patch.

another day in Mitsuwa
They had a food expedition in Mitsuwa today so I went with 801megane and animemiz. We met at the shuttle there and the first thing we did was eat. However, we kept on getting distracted by all the yummy stuff and samples. Ice cream was my fav...then there was the apple vingar drink that pretty light. Everything I ate today seemed to have eel in it...including animemiz's dish. Since she wasn't fond of eels, she gave them to me. ^.^ Our menu of the day consist of chirashi sushi and inari sushi from the supermarket. I also picked up an eel onigiri that had the rice soaked in eel sauce. Umai! *drools in memory* After food, we went around the supermarket some more and headed over to the book and toy store across the street. Then we headed to Target so animemiz can buy a pair of shorts. We ended our expedition back at Mitsuwa with shaved ice...perfect for a summer day. 801megane and animemiz shared starwberry ice while I had calpico ice. ^.^
Back in the city, we went to the Borders in Penn Station and browsed while discussing the merits of BL books. We were contemplating dinner, but decided against it and we split for home. ^.^ Another wonderful day at Mitsuwa...can't wait until next time. P-chan and Pearl-chan will definitely be coming next time. ^-^

*dances around the room* A couple weeks back at AnimeNEXT, I spoke with Frank Pannone, the managing editor of Media Blasters/Kitty Media about a proofreading internship/position. He gave me his card and asked me to contact him. I sent in my cover letter and resume but didn't hear from him. *facefaults* I decided to gather my courage and contact him today...and as soon as I said who I was, he remembered me. O.O Of course, he has been busy lately and asked me to contact him again at the end of July since there will be new books up for me to do. Yay! I'm going to be proofreading manga for Media Blasters! Nitta-sensei on hiatus
It has been confirmed that Nitta Youka-sensei will stop writing/drawing manga. According to her apology, the translation would be "I am ceasing my writing activity" which doesn't reveal whether or not this will be temporary or permanent. >.< All her manga in Japan has ceased publishing. I wonder what that will mean for manga published everywhere else in the world. Definitely, Haru wo Daiteita is unfinished and will remain so for some time. I also wonder what this will mean for her anime. >.<

One of my friends that I met at NYAF '07 called me up last week to hang out, but I wasn't able to since I was busy. I'm still busy this week, but decided to just meet up with him tonight. ^^; P-chan and Pearl-chan already go the 411 on him, but his name is Rachel. (His pic was in my con report. ^.^) We met up at the manga section of Borders Penn Station and went to St. Marks for Japanese food. He knew this really nice place for okonomiyaki. We ordered that and a curry dish as well as an egg dish. Everything was delicious and we went to a bakery afterwards to chat some more. Our convo ranged from games, Japanime stuff to ultra serious subjects. I won't divulge anything, but it was an interesting conversation. He is definitely under alot of pressure and I hope he'll find someone he can really hang on to for help and stablity. ^^; Even though he'll never read this...ganbarre, Rachel-chan! ^.^
Nitta Youka-sensei update
She will not be appearing at Yaoi-Con this year. This would have been her return to Yaoi-Con since she was guest in 2002. She was also at New York Comic Con in 2006 and made an appearance in Kinokuniya Rockafeller store making her the first yaoi mangaka that I met. >.< I still have no words. so many projects
Cosplay updates: I'm officially working on my Kamui cosplay for Otakon and/or NYAF. I have all the materials, the wig...and it's not a difficult cosplay so I thought to just make it for the hell of it. Also, I might meet a cute Subaru. ^^; I'm also making Tomoyo-hime dress version 3. It will look exactly like version 2, except that the inner skirt will be a different materal so the thing doesn't weigh 20 lbs when I'm walking around. This will definitely be done before Otakon since I'm wearing it there.
Me and a friend on a yaoi forum has decided to start an lj yaoi manga archive site. It's based off of another site that is now non-existent: a listing of manga categories based off of pairings. There are also genres in there, so if someone wants to read manga about older seme x younger uke can just look under the category for a list of manga with that pairing. We're currently looking for help with that. Will link to that site once it officially opens. ^.^
My essay and resume is basically done...but I'm having my friend look it over. *phew* It was tough even though P-chan did most of the work. *bows to her awesomeness*
I have two other things in the works...but no info about that yet. I will post about them once I get definite answers from them...but it's all good. ^.^

slice of life...for Jenn-chan
I met up with Jenn-chan at Flushing and went to eat at a cafe at Prince St. (as always...nothing new in my choice of eaterys. ^^;) During the dinner, we were playing rock-paper-scissors to see who will eat the last gyoza or something...and we had 6 rounds of ties. O.O Never happened before...ever.... lol After that epic game, and dinner, okaasan came (with my things) and drove us to her house. I played around with her bootleg DS games (Kirby FTW!) and we watched episode 1 and 2 of Ai Yori Aoshi. I like the opening music...so pretty. ^.^ *points at mp3 link*
Jenn-chan has been netflixing lately...borrowing all anime she can find. Her latest acquisition (besides Ai Yori Aoshi was Ceres: Celestial Legends aka. Ayashi no Ceres. She watched a bit and liked it, but knowing her preferences for Japanime series, I told her to steer clear of it. She prefers happy stories with a hint of drama. Ouran Highschool Host Club and Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge is more of her style. Watase Yuu-sensei's stories are awesome, comedic and serious...but mostly serious and angsty. ^^; In either case, Jenn-chan is not ready for Watase-sensei's stuff. Ai Yori Aoshi is very perverted, male-centered audience and interesting in that respect. Dunno if she'll continue with that series...but I'll stick with my yaoi. I've had enough of romances. ^^;
I gave Jenn-chan the deck of Naruto playing cards that I bought at AnimeNEXT. Jenn-chan gave me one of her black dress shirts-her size of course-and I could wear it...barely. I can put it on without buttoning down...so I'll wear a tanktop underneath. ^^; We went to sleep after that. In the morning, we grabbed a bite to eat at a bakery near the busstop and took the train into Manhattan. I slept along the way. ^-^ Arigato, Jenn-chan for letting me sleep over! *hugs* I'll be over again in another week since okaasan needs to go see the doctor again and I won't have a ride back home in LI.... ^^; We already decided that our dinner next time will be Korean. I want spicy tofu stew.... *drools*

Why Nitta-sensei, why?
Japanese pic posting site, 2ch has been debating whether or not Nitta Youka-sensei have been plagiarising from photographs. o.O I saw the pics and.... *silence* giapet.net saids it best: "Nitta, who is well-known for reusing her own faces and panels in her works, has issued an apology claiming that she didn't know about the copyright issue, which seems a little odd for a professional mangaka. Especially one who's been working since, what, 1997?" I have no words for this (hence the major copy/paste of the article) but I am shocked. O.O
As reported from the site, the next chapter for Haru wo Daiteita has been pulled from BeBoy Gold, though it hasn't been confirmed yet if the above issue was the reason. People are also wondering if this will affect Nitta-sensei's appearance at Yaoi Con. I hope not...even though I won't be at the convention. Nitta-sensei's stories have always been great. Though her art have been repetitive, the plot and storylines were strong and enjoyable. >.< *no other words*

true tears
Today was a 'self care workshop' sponsered by our agency which is basically an event for the staff to learn how to care for ourselves in stressful times so that 'burnout' won't happen. Lunch was provided and I had a yummy croissant bacon sandwich. *drools in memory* Me and two others skipped out early since one of our previous co-workers' father passed away last week. We went to Chinatown to attend the wake.
It is (or should be) common knowledge by those reading my blog that I am a huge crier. It does not take much to make me cry. People passing away does not make me cry and kids crying does not make me cry. Old people crying and friends who usually smile who are now crying induce tears. I do not pity them...I just tend to internalize feelings and I start to cry. >.< That said, I was in tears this afternoon. Not a nice feeling.
Afterwards, me and another ex-co-worker went to Fresh Element, a cafe on Pell St. for an early dinner and ice cream (since I needed cheering up.) 140 met up with me since she bought some Bath and Body Works stuff for me just because she wanted to. *hugs 140* We had an enjoyable chat before I headed to Flushing to meet okaasan.

Kadokawa USA brings us BL! Tokyopop too!
Since Pearl-chan reminded me this morning, I decided to post about the newest addition to the US releases: Junjou Romantica anime aka. Romantica ~Pure Love~. (Interesting how Tokyopop's BLU line kept the Japanese name but the Japanese company changes it for the anime. ^.^) Since this series is currently the longest BL anime series, I'm super happy.
Something I failed to mention in my happy-manga-licensing post was that Tokyopop (not under the BLU line,) has licensed Togainu no Chi, a BL manga with shonen ai elements. It's the one by Chayamachi Suguro-sensei (there is another version, ultra short by Tomoe Sato-sensei) and it's currently at 4 vol. in Japan. I heart Tokyopop alot since they licensed alot of light BL and seem to be doing a really good job at it even though it's not under the BLU line. No censorship and anything. Now, if only they will be consistent with their color pages...
a small time off
I met up with X in Chinatown today and we walked around, chatted, headed up to midtown to the Japanese restaurant Sapporo for yummy miso ramen, checked out M&M's World and the Hershey Store before heading to Penn for home. It was a nice break though my mind was upon a million things. At least I could have a straight convo without losing anyone. ^^;

One more con? Yes!
Diana-chan pointed out something I didn't even realize: NYAF is being held in late Septemeber this year, which means...I can go! *dances around the room* I'm especially happy since Amano Yoshitaka-san, the artist for Final Fantasy will be there. If they will have a VIP or bypass-all-lines ticket, I will consider buying it since I abhor lines to a fault. (Too bad Otakon doesn't have one or else I would buy one even if it cost $100. Did I mention this already? Gomen.... ^^;)
essays are hard...
*gives pocky to students* I give props to all of you who are students or rounin since writing those papers are beyond difficult. I never imagined myself struggling so much with the essay...but struggling is an understatement. I've hit a brick wall and fell into a hole. Me? Having difficulty with an essay? Never! *headdesk*
I want to thank P-chan and Pearl-chan (and maybe Alby-kun later?) for looking over my essay and basically rewriting the thing for me. Manga releases!
I know I mentioned in my previous post that I will not be posting about the licenses and stuff since there is a TON of it flooding out of AX (and the con has just started!) but...I'm too happy about these licenses to not type about them. The announcements are not as epic as the Ouran Highschool cast list (not many announcements are) but it's good enough for me. FYI, I'm only mentioning what I like and not everything out there. ^.^
DMP will be coming out with Princess Princess+ by Tsuda Mikiyo-sensei which is the sequel to the manga series (with two brand new princesses) and it'll be under their new line with Shinshokan labelled 'Doki Doki'. If June manga is their BL line, what is Doki Doki? No idea just yet.... Other DMP licenses include Otodama by Youka Nitta-sensei (actually NOT a yaoi,) Millenium Prime Minister by Eiki Eiki-sensei and Happy Boys by Tateno Makoto-sensei. All of the mentioned titles (except for Princess Princess+) are more then one volume series so they'll be ongoing releases for all of them.
That was only for their DMP/Doki Doki line. Their June manga line includes Desire - Dangerous Feelings by Shoko Takaku-sensei, Then Comes Love (Soshite Koi ni Naru) by Riyu Yamakami-sensei and Cut by Toko Kawai-sensei. Their July releases just came out and already there are so many new titles in the works.... *glomps June Manga*
Viz also has some awesome releases including Gestalt manga by Kouga Yun-sensei. ^.^
Funi is taking over the world!
This is old news aka. not announced at the con, but I just want to bring this up. No links because they're readily easy to find (also lazy) but Funimation is picking up the releasing rights to some hot Geneon titles...including Saiunokoku Monotagari and season 2 of Kyou Kara Maoh. O.O Sugoi! I don't know if that means they'll be able to continue the series, but it definitely means they'll be releasing whatever dvds Geneon was suppose to release and allow fans to complete their boxsets. ^-^ That isn't all! Funimation has also acquired the licenses to many ADV titles, my favs being Le Chevalier D'Eon and The Wallflower anime. Many people are hoping-including me-that they'll keep the original cast...and it makes sense since many of these series are already well into recording. Also, the cast to Le Chevalier D'Eon is pretty good. ^^;
EDIT: All VAs will tbe same! *cheers* AND ADV packaging will be consistent meaning...no new packaging for any continuing series. *double cheers* Funi is on a roll!

(I pushed the July pic post up since it's still July 4th. ^.^)
Happy July 4th!

I know this is more of a summer festival (August-type) pic, but it has fireworks in the background and Ritsuka and Soubi in yukatas...it'll work. ^.^
Ouran cast!
Anime Expo is underway and tons of news have been flooding in. The only one I'm going to post about now is something I've been waiting for for a looooong time: the VAs for Ouran. As mentioned before, Funimation has licensed the series and Caitlin Glass is the director (which is awesome since she is a BIG fan of the series and will certainly do it justice.) The VAs cast for some of the characters have been trickling out these past few weeks, but they're all minor characters. Now, at AX...the full main cast is announced! In cosplay glory (since the VAs are actually wearing the Ouran jackets-must find pics!) are:
Haruhi Fujioka: Caitlin Glass
Tamaki Suou: Vic Mignogna
Kyouya Ootori: Jay Michael Tatum
Hikaru Hitachiin: Greg Ayres
Kaoru Hitachiin: Todd Haberkorn
Mitsukuni Haninozuka: Luci Christian
Takashi Morinozuka: Travis Willingham
Nekozawa: Patrick Seitz
Check out the rest of the cast and info on giapet.net. Its not surprising to see Vic as Tamaki since he wanted that role ever since the series came out in Japan. Caitlin in the role of Haruhi is also not a surprise and I'm totally happy since my two fav VAs are together again! ^.^ I'm eager to hear Luci's voice for Honey-senpai and I'm wondering how Mori-senpai will sound. His deep voice is perfect, but I wonder how Travis will pull off the stoicness of the characte. Ganbarre, minna!
something fun
Genzu.net is this site that can turn names into visual weapons, show dangers of having a name in lights...and another applications including one that can shows the connections between people. Below is such an example.

lol P-chan and I are former lovers while Pearl-chan has guest/clerk relations with CB (our married friend in China.) It's interesting to see the many results that may pop out by changing names. ^.^
Oh yeah, the origin of my name 'Rai' is 'pet'. The onomancy (or strokes of a letter) of my name is 'dildo'. ^^; That saids alot. ^-^

stepping out
I met up with my godsister, Christine-neechan in the city in the afternoon. (Didn't have work, so I traveled out just for her. ^.^) I met up with her at Book Off where we browsed a bit before heading to Kinokuniya. While we had a late lunch (bento and tirimisu for me yay! ^-^) I gave her the manga I bought at AnimeNEXT: Sensitive Pornograph and Bondz. My godsister returned vol. 1 of Target in the Finder to me. (She is not done reading vol 2 and 3 yet.) We chatted about various BL manga...usually she names a title and I recite the summary to her. ^^; lol I'm not that good at remembering plot summaries, but I know enough.
It was an interesting break and resting from work is a good thing....

stillness
I'm trying to rest up lately...don't know if it is working. For now, I'm working on several personal projects and I've been super busy at work. I'm determined to get out my essay and resume out by this week. Already, I'm one month behind my personal schedule. *kicks self* It does not delay my plans...but it does upset me that I'm not done yet. ^^; My Japanese co-workers are helping me for which I'm really grateful.
No news lately on the Japanime news front...but that is because this week is Anime Expo...the largest con in the US. The biggest thing I'm missing from that con is the fact that they'll be showing the first EVA movie for the first time in the US...on the big screen.... No matter...I'm still busy with other stuff...like cosplay. ^^;
