cosplay prep troubles
Bought black fabric paint to spruce of the fading of the symbols on my Tomoyo-hime cosplay. Went to Home Depot again to check out the chains (again) only to not buy any because the chains that were 'reasonable' in style were heavy. >.< I don't mind getting smaller links as long as it looks good. Checking out Home Depot in Flushing tomorrow. Had to specially order belt buckets...but they're without the middle piece. (You know, the middle stick that goes through the holes in the belt....) That just means that the buckle won't really function as such...most likely just stuck to the fabric. >.< I want ones with middle portions, but can't find them. They're suppose to be gold/copper colored but I can paint over that. If only the sizes weren't so large... *headdesk*

more than cosplay on my mind...
My laptop has been giving me some problems lately, the biggest issue being a virus. Turns out, the virus is known to steal passwords for online games like Maple Story. O.o Funny thing is, I haven't even installed it into this laptop yet. (Yes, it has been over 1 year since I last played it. Hope my magician still exists.... >.<) Determined to not leave any trojans and spyware in my system, I spent this entire evening downloading a new antivirus and spyware software. Doing this for my laptop, I also installed it in okaasan's comp. X hours later, I'm happy to report my laptop is again virus free. This was certainly a pain in the neck and I would rather wipe my system clean and start fresh. However, being that all available memory is filled with Japanime stuff, I would need another external HD so I can move all my stuff elsewhere. ^^; Also, re-installing all my DVD burning programs is a big pain. >.< I wish I could create an entirely new program that combines all the softwares that I use.... That would be awesome...one CD to load it all.... *daydreams*
Between working on a new contest for the yaoi forum (with another forumer) and doing this, I haven't been able to continue sewing. >.< But it continues tomorrow! *is determined* For now...I must sleep.... -.-Zzzz

just sewing the day away
Actually woke up before 10am today. O.o I don't know if my internal clock was set on work mode, but I couldn't go back to sleep. >.< So I got up, played piano, ate something and got down to work on sewing.
Tomoyo-Hime - Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
Process: 93%
Length of time: about 64 hrs.
Cost: $80
Cosplay attire: purple dress w/ white/purple top, white belt with strips headpiece, purple ribbon (for hair,) goddess cloth, white sandals, white socks
Prep needed: Bottom part of hair needs to be wavy (results achieved with braids and hairspray)
Materials that I have: foam board, sculpty, gold paint, ribbons
The top is sewn on, but I haven't figured out what to do with the hem of the chiffon skirt yet.... I've been sewing and cutting my stitches since I wasn't happy with the way it turned out. >.< At least the top is on...it's actually giving me some trouble too since the top is covered in chiffon and it's so soft.... Will work on it more tomorrow.
ice cream on the pier...
...is not a good idea. 140 came by and we went to Port Jeff. for some walking near the waters. Of course, we bought our usual ice cream treats and headed in that direction...though after the sun set and the wind picked up, it got pretty cold. 140 and I bought our coats, but her bf didn't so we retreated inland. ^^; Ended up coming back to my house where I pulled on my almost complete Tomoyo-hime costume for them. I'm really having alot of fun in that costume...though I know it'll get super hot in the summer since it's double layors and kinda heavy.... Oh wellz, the things I do for cosplay.... ^^;

elegence and grace in cosplay
Tomoyo-Hime - Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
Process: 90%
Length of time: about 59 hrs.
Cost: $80
Cosplay attire: purple dress w/ white/purple top, white belt with strips headpiece, purple ribbon (for hair,) goddess cloth, white sandals, white socks
Prep needed: Bottom part of hair needs to be wavy (results achieved with braids and hairspray)
Materials that I have: purple chiffon fabric, deep purple fabric, foam board, sculpty, gold paint, ribbons
I sewed on the skirt and am almost done hemming it. I looks more awesome then before! Against my earlier misgivings, I went with a heavier fabric that is actually kinda shiny. Only kinda since I feel that super shiny fabric looks cheap for more reasons then one. My hemming skills are as bad as ever, but I can hide my stitching on the inside. ^.^ I still haven't hemmed half the skirt (the chiffon half) and I'm kinda fearful since if I pull a thread, then it'll be X.x. I'm going to try to do this with as little sewing as possible so I don't pull anything. Chiffon falls quite nicely so I shouldn't need to sew too much.
I'm going to be sewing the chiffon on the top half tomorrow. Then start working on the other cosplays. 140 said that she'll be coming around tomorrow afternoon with her bf so I hope to get some work done in the morning. ^.^ Time to sleep!

I started sewing the skirt. I did a mix design of chiffon and deep purple fabric that I bought on friday. It's going to by my twist on the cosplay. I have my reasons for this change. If it doesn't turn out well, I'll just make another one. This second skirt will be removable so it's like have two different costumes in one...sorta.... ^^;

a day without the cell...
Turns out, I left my cell at home when I left the house. Being that I was suppose to meet up with Pearl-chan and the others, I have no way of communicating with them. I didn't even remember their cell numbers. >.< Since it was still 'early', I went to the fabric store that I discovered before near Qns. Fam. Crt. I found an acceptable (but still imperfect) piece of fabric that I can use for my revamped Tomoyo-hime costume. I bought 2.5 yards of it at a discounted price. Didn't save much, but yay for discounts! ^^; I then headed to my office in order to possibly get a cell phone and attempt to make contact with the others.
I arrived at an opportuned time...for the office. Before dealing with EMERGENCY CODE RED, I got permission to borrow the office cell and contacted Pearl-chan's house. Pearl-chan's mother gave me her cell number to which I was able to get in touch with everyone else. Finishing up at the office, I left for Best Buy in midtown to return something. Met up with Pearl-chan and P-chan at Best Buy and waited almost 30 min. at the customer service center. o.o There wasn't that many people, but there was an issue with the 3rd person ahead of me....
That done, we headed to Qns. Due to the lateness of our arrival (almost 8pm,) Alby-kun skipped out on meeting up with us. We had dinner at Sushi Family and then okaasan picked us up and drove us to Flushing where we went to our usual pool hall...except that it wasn't there. O.O We decided to head to Pearl-chan's house instead, and a few detours later, we finally arrived at her house. I not-so-sneakily presented her with an ice cream cake (that I had picked up on one of the detours) and not-so-surprised her with trick candles. They were pretty weak since a few extra blows put them out. ^^;
PM to amity and co.
I'm so sorry guys for today. Because of my delays, Pearl-chan's b-day plans were messed up. Gomen ne, minna...I'm sorry, everyone. *bows* All in all, I hope you, Pearl-chan enjoyed at least a part of it. Now, I'm going to go put myself in a corner and refuse ice cream and yaoi for a full hour.

Happy B-day, Pearl-chan!
As I did for P-chan and the others, here are 3 Japanime characters that I felt have the best characteristics to pair up with Pearl-chan. Again, please disregard any age since they're mostly in highschool...but they're very mature!

Highschool student, Takano Kyouhei is a mentally and physically strong character. He is confident, speaks his mind and tends to do what he wants. However, that isn't to say he is cold hearted. He actually picks up on nuances that others may have missed and reacts only as needed. He doesn't waste time when acting on a plan, but he does know how to relax and tends to lounge around unless he truly needs to do something. His ability to put up with any strange things (not to say that he is innured or even stoic about them) is a bonus since it shows the strength of his character.
His ability to take whatever comes is a major pro since Pearl-chan is also an upfront type of person. Pearl-chan tends to speak her mind, and changes moods quickly which will not faze Kyouhei. Also, the times that she is silent, he might be able to pick up on the reasons why and act or not do anything. Also, he can certainly hold his own against her more violent reactions. ^^; Another pro is that Kyouhei loves to eat and can eat just about anything. That will make it easier for them to choose where to eat since Pearl-chan is very meticulous about her meals. At the end, Kyouhei can eat wherever she finally decides. Also, both Kyouhei and Pearl-chan loves Japanese food. A con would be Kyouhei's sensitivity about his looks. Also, the crowd of fangirls that will always surround them would be something to contend with. However, Kyouhei has his way with people. He certainly can certainly find some way to make it clear that they need their space.... ^^; Another con would be his intelligence. It isn't to say that he isn't smart...it's just that he can get excellent grades as long as he studies. Unfortunately, studying for long periods of times isn't exactly his forte.... Pearl-chan, herself is very intelligent, striving to learn more things...when she isn't lounging about as well. Perhaps the two of them can have study dates togeter....

From the kingdom of Celes, Fai D. Flourite is an enigmatic character. He is strength in character reflects in knowledge of his abilities and understanding everything that goes on around him. His strength also relates to his magical abilities as well as his fighting skills. His past encompassed so many things. However (from the beginning of the series,) it did not reflect in his mannerisms and laughter. He is not a joking type person, but he seemed content and at ease with his comrades. He is not prideful or dishonest about anything, even though he does not share his past nor secrets that he discovered along the way. His choices reflect the wisdom he has gain.
His ability to understand people is very helpful in communicating which is a total plus for Pearl-chan. He can pick up on things (through his intuition, no magic needed) and act accordingly. As mentioned before, he is not a joking character, but he knows how to make people smile which is very important in relationships. His seriousness is also reflected in his laughter. He is also a fantastic cook. I'm sure he'll come up with something that Pearl-chan will like.... ^^; As a con, he has many things in his past that are difficult to handle. Certainly, they will cause problems if these things occur. However, perhaps in Pearl-chan's world, Fai would not have to face these challenges. Of course, dating Pearl-chan would present challenges of their own.... ^^;

Tenjo Night is the perfect boyfriend. There isn't much to write about him since he is a doll/machine, a system that reflects the perfection in guys that all girls would want. However, artificial emotions are meaningless which makes it even better that he developes true emotions of his own. His intelligence and sensitivity to his surroundings reflect the 'level' that he has obtained...putting him one step closer to being the best guy to be with.
Pros would be everything stated above as well as his ability to adjust and understand. As a boyfriend doll, he is able to conjure the right emotions for different situations, perfect for all the changes that he may encounter with Pearl-chan. Cons would simply be his OS malfunctioning due to his true emotions overiding his systems. The only solution I can see is Pearl-chan and him working together to develope a new OS before his current one shuts down. With his intelligence and her knowledge of computers, I'm sure they'll be able to come up with something. ^.^
Pearl-chan has a very strong personality. She conveys her thoughts as she wants, sometimes not reigning in her words. ^^; Also, she has rapid mood changes. I tried to choose guys that would be best in dealing and adjusting (as well as understanding) those changes. Acceptance is a big point since acknowledgement and understanding is needed in relationships. I also chose guys that are mentally strong enough to listen to Pearl-chan as well as to give input. (No weaklings allowed!) Just acquiesting to her will doesn't feel right for her. (Although the guys I chose would make sure she is pampered at times...except for Kyouhei perhaps. ^^;) Although the person should have a sense of humor, I did not think that he should be constantly joking since Pearl-chan is quite serious at times. Also, someone who loves to eat or is flexible in their choices is best since she has very specific taste buds. *runs away from impending threats*

The human whose name is written...
Met up with Christine-neechan at 6:30pm. We browsed Forbidden Planet for a bit before heading to Au Bon Pain for dinner. I knew I couldn't possibly sit through an entire movie with L without buying anything to eat. (L eats CONSTANTLY...so, I can't help myself. ^^;) I ordered a medium popcorn and medium soda. In short, the Death Note movie was awesome. It was awesome watching it in Japanese and it has not diminished in awesomeness in English. Besides a few background characters, the rest of the voice cast was brillant. I knew some of the Death Note anime cast was part of the live action dub...but I didn't realize that they were all there playing the same characters as from the anime. O.O Of course, the live action movie took a different turn then the anime characterwise...however the personality of the characters are still the same and so the voices fit. To name the two heads of the movie, Brad Swaile (Quatre, Gundam Wing) was Light and Brian Drummond (Zechs, Gundam Wing) was L. Amazing voices. *applauds Viz* Fujiwara Tatsuya as Light and Matsuyama Kenichi as L were fantastic.
My fav scenes in the movie haven't changed. The official meeting of L with the police force was funny as always, the donut-kabob scene was hilarious and Ryuk banging his head against the ceiling scene due to apple-withdrawal was total lol. (Yes, they're all funny scenes.) Of course the last scene (which I won't describe) is full of win. The 30 minute making of also included clips of the next movie, 'the Last Name' (which I wish would show in theaters. >.<) I hope they actually include the making of into the DVD releases because I would totally buy them.
Negative aspects of the movie was the excessive cursing that innudated the criminals' language at the start of the movie. 'Bad guys' can be established without all these f and s-words. Being a dark, grim subject matter as Death Note is, it never relied on cursing. (Which made the last manga volume invective even more intense.) Just because it's for western audiences, doesn't mean the script needed injections of curses. The other issue I had with the movie was the multitude of cellphone messages, internet sites, newspaper articles, written messages that appeared with no translation subtitles. It's obvious what they are referring to, but English subs of the headlines and the 'suicide' notes would have been most helpful. For Viz to overlook or even exclude this from the movie was a major mistake.
Experience-wise, the theater was alot quieter then watching the Fullmetal Alchemist movie which I'm thankful for. Didn't see any cosplayers or other Death Notes (except my own) but that could be because it's black and the theater is dark even with the lights on. It was tons of fun and Christine-neechan and I are planning to go the showing of 'L Change the World' in July. ^-^

Hello Kitty, the next ambassador of Japan!
No worries, Hello Kitty is not taking over Doraemon's position in the government. (Afterall, he has only been in that position for several months. ^^;) Japan decided to appoint the position of Tourism Ambassador to Hello Kitty. This title isn't new since J-pop duo, Puffy AmiYumi are among the ones previously picked for the group position. I have always wanted Hello Kitty to be ambassador of some sort. Her philosophy (expression without mouth) is why she is icon of Sanrio and loved by many (otaku and non-otaku alike.)
Just for the hell of it, Mickey Mouse and Pooh should be the ambassador and tourism amabassador of the US. I don't care who gets which position, they're both perfect for the jobs. ^-^
Death Note live 3 in NY!
Besides the two films of Death Note, a spinoff film featuring the eccentric but awesomely cute detective that we all know in love, L change the WorLd was made. It will be shown at the NY Anime Film Festival in the summer. If the dubbing for the film is done well (as we will see tomorrow at the Death Note showing,) I might consider going to see this one. I heard that story and plot is weaker (as movies go,) but it's more awesomeness in the Death Note universe, features a sexy L and has lots of fanservice.

This week, I'll be working on the Moon Bell since I disliked the previous one made. (It looks good straight on, but if I hold it sideways.... >.<) I'm also going chains shopping in the city and making my belt. ^^; I'm planning to cut the buckles from other belts if I'm unable to find the one I like. (Yes, I'm wasting four good belts to make a 'fake' for cosplay.) Okaasan will be assisting with my fabric shopping since I won't have time until next saturday. (Friday is day off...but I'm going to have plans that day. ^.^) I usually handpick/feel all of my fabrics but I don't have time this time. Anyway, okaasan has an idea what I want...hopefully. ^^;
Both my Ritsuka and Kamui cosplays are considered imperfect...and not just because they're my guy cosplays. I'm working out every night so that I can 'fit' those characters the best I can physically. However, I haven't mastered wig wearing and I don't have the 'pretty' look that bishies need. (I'm cute, but not pretty. >.<) However, I'm going to keep giving it my all! Ganbarre, Rai!

Happy 3rd Anniversary, Solitary!
In celebration of my site's 3rd anniversary, this layout will be default for the following week. I love how the focus of the layout is on the closeness of Ritsuka and Soubi. Its a tender moment not often seen...Ritsuka leaning over to kiss Soubi with Soubi's eyes closed in aceeptance. *faints*
All other layouts have been pulled for the week. At the end of the week, I'll be choosing the layout of the upcoming year. The 3 choices are v7 ~restrained~, v8 ~faded~ and v8.1 ~petals~. Unless I get the time/inspiration to make something new, it probably won't change again for awhile. ^^; Of course, the other layouts will be up and you can use that as your default.
retrospective blog
Solitary is basically my online journal. I chose a free server rather than xanga or lj because I don't want to friends-lock it. It's private enough (in terms of searching) that not many people find this site. However, any of my closest friends, co-workers, church friends can find it. Besides my facebook, I don't link it anywhere else. Not my cosplay.com site, not my lj account (which I use to view flock entries) and of course not on any of the random Japanime sites I go on. This makes sense on many levels. What I type about on here are only relevent/makes sense to those who know me personally. Otherwise, I spew alot of nonsense about events no one knows about. I still like to maintain a level of anonymity since I don't like to use RL names (if I can avoid it) which also helps in case someone does a google search based on names.
I don't like displaying my life story on the net. Drama (as several entries have shown) is only funny when it's about other people. I don't revel in drama and I hate it when it occurs around me. However, being a blog, I do have the freedom to rant/vent about what is going on. I do have the freedom to divulge info that I generally won't speak about...though I realize I don't do that very often. Why? Because I like to maintain an appearance of who I am without having to defend myself on the net or overly explaining something that it becomes tl;dr.
Otherwise, this is a fun blog. I type about Japanime news and events and give extensive reports about stuff that I have done. BL is a major topic. *points at current layout* My life isn't exactly interesting, but it is my life and I like typing about it. ^.^
future changes?
There probably won't be any structural/coding changes in the future. Some people have suggested it, but I decided not to put in commenting on individual posts. My chatterbox goes back quite a ways so you can read comments about what went on couple months ago as well as couple days ago. People don't comment often enough for me to see a need to add such an option. Even without putting it in context, me (and others) can probably figure out what someone is referring to. ^^; Maybe that'll change in the future.
I did put in a larger textbox for typing (*ahem* P-chan ^.^) so I hope that is good enough...for now.
I don't like dead links and pages that are irrelavent. I do update my access/links, anthology and veracity pages as needed. Amity and vice are the two least updated pages...but that's because there are no new content. I do update amity when you guys tell me something new. ^^;
Enough updating! I need more sleep, work on cosplay and eat! *runs away*

layouts in retrospect
As you can tell, when I was making these backgrounds, I wanted to return to the black/dark theme of my initial FMA pics. Not as many brushes and the pic would stay as is. (Except for v.8 where I had to vector two images which took a loooong time. ^^;) Still, the entire process per layout took several hours. I chose black since the white text would show up on the dark background. Changing the text color would mean creating a whole new css which would be a pain to modify. >.<
I stuck to an iframe for many reasons, one being that geocities has an ad on the right side of the page. However, it will not appear in an iframe...only the index page. The other reasons is the adjustible opaque background which would allow me to change the layout by just changing the index page. Lastly, I haven't mastered tables yet. ^^; Recent sites don't use iframes as much, but I really enjoy working with them.
BDSM...cosplay style
With all my layouts done, I can return to my cosplay prep. ^^; Yesterday, my ankle and wrist restraints arrived in the mail. The leather is so soft and comfortable. The ankle restraints can be worn on the wrists too...except they're kinda big (will slip off.) However, perhaps my Soubi for AnimeNEXT would want to wear them...? ^^; I'm just waiting for my collar now. I bought the set from two different sellers so I hope the collar and wrists restraints match. They're both black.... Need to buy chains next...among other things. ^.^

update before 3am...
Layout 3 of my site celebratory set is complete and is currently my default. As promised, this has slightly more color then the others...not much, but at least there is more color. ^^; I'm not entirely satisfied with any of them, but at least this one doesn't wreak havoc on the text like 'faded'. ('Faded' isn't that bad, but those gray brushes aren't exactly the best to have around white text. >.<)
Again, please comment to let me know which one you like best (or none at all) in order to help me decide my default for the next year. I have many reasons why I probably won't have another layout update in awhile...one of which is cosplay and the other...I won't write about until I have more info on it. ^^;

I guess my updates are all several hours past the day before. ^^; I don't know why I typed in my last post that my site's anniversary was the 15th when it's the 17th. (I corrected my last post.) In either case, I'm still aiming for 3 layouts. The first two are dark and kinda plain, but my third will have more colors. If you haven't noticed yet, the info on the layouts is in the atrophy section.
As I'm typing this, I realize that the chatterbox is not working. It's because the main flooble chatterbox site is down. <.<; Hopefully, it'll be up by tomorrow. Please comment and let me know which layout would you like for me to use as default for the upcoming year. I'm making the decision anyway, but it's nice to know which of my crap is acceptable or at least tolerable. ^^;

May 17 will be my site's 3rd anniversary. I decided to create three layouts to commemorate the occasion, starting with this one: ~restrained~. All three will be from Loveless and feature a larger chatterbox. I haven't tried this out on Firefox yet, but I hope the layout doesn't do anything crazy. o.O It shouldn't anyway.... Hopefully, the second layout will go up tomorrow (*ahem* tonight) and the last one will be up on the 15th. I will then see which one I like best and keep as my default for the rest of the year. Of course, the other layouts will be still be available at the bottom...or whereever the new layout puts them. ^^; Yes, I know my layouts are not terribly creative, but simplicity is a specialty of mine. ^.^ Hope you like it too....

Mingling at the Met
One of my previous co-workers received an invite to the private showing of the Art of Japan exhibit at the Metropolitan held by Asian Pacific American Heritage. She RSVPed with me as her guest and I went with her tonight. It was a flashy affair, business attire with hor d'oeuvres and open bar. My drink was ginger ale since it matched my friend's white wine. ^^; After snacking on food (salmon with sour cream, strawberries, flavored macadamia nuts are favs,) I 'mingled' a bit. Bumped into some of the higher ups in my agency as well as higher ups in other agencies. o.O Of course, my friend told me their names and positions beforehand so I can at least have some semblance of recognition...though no foreknowledge of who they really are. ^^; I'm not good at networking (not like someone I know *coughAlbycough*) but I think I did pretty well. Good thing I had my business cards with me.
Some broadway show singers performed solos. My fav was 'On My Own' sang by Ann Harada. There was a pianist on the Steinway and Sons baby grand piano. Of course, I fell in love with the piano. ^.^ The main attraction was the private viewings of the Astor Court and Japanese galleries that opened at 7pm. Japanese art (as many Asian arts go) are on screens. I was hoping to find a particular piece that was actually printed on the invitation. It is a famous piece (though the name fails me now >.<) that is suppose to be at a museum in Boston. However, being that it was on the invite, I was hoping to see it there. Alas, I didn't see it...but there was an area that was roped off.... ^^; We wandered into the Chinese gardens before heading home. An enjoyable evening.... *dreams about salmon topped with cream cheese and mini pizzas*

More space for more manga!
When the Princess Princess manga set complete with the 2 vol. of Day of Revolution and single vol. of Family Complex appeared on eBay, I couldn't help but bid on it. I got it for a low price which was perfect for this poor social working otaku. ^^; The manga came on thursday and I met up with Theresa-neechan on Friday (couple hours ago) just so I can have manga covers for my new books. *hugs newly wrapped books* Because of the additions to my collection, I ended up rearranging my closet so that I can clear up space on my shelves. I just finished. *whew*
sushi, potato thingee and manga...of course!
For lunch, I met up with P-chan and Pearl-chan at Kinokuniya. Pearl-chan ate sushi while I had a fried bento box. Oishi! So happy I got the bento since it's usually sold out by late afternoon. P-chan drank hot chocolate (which I must order next time) while Pearl-chan and I shared the food amongst ourselves. Afterwards, we had chocolate fondue dessert with vanilla ice cream. *drools in memory* After lunch, we browsed the manga section for a bit before heading to the stationary floor. Pearl-chan searced for books that teaches kanji while P-chan and I were subjected to Japanese language convo books that were not really PG. (Pearl-chan handed those books to us...thats the truth! ^^;) Pearl-chan bought the manga teaches kanji set and we headed to Book Off (despite P-chan's earlier promise of death if we end up there.) A short while later, we separated: P-chan and Pearl-chan to home and me to Flushing to meet with Theresa-neechan.
Theresa-neechan met me at our usual spot and we headed to Sweet and Tart for congee. Rainy day is perfect day for congee. ^.^ Theresa-neechan gave me my manga covers (arigato, Theresa-neechan! ^.^) and we discussed the merits of Enchanted Arms and upcoming video games for the PS3. I decided that I will rewatch EA since I feel I was unfair in my initial view of it. I was expecting it to be an epic story, but it turned out to be a lighter drama with comedy aspects in it. I guess I need to rewatch it with this in mind so I'll enjoy it more. *is determined* Theresa-neechan showed me the trailer to Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne on her PSP and I was happily surprised to be greeted with a gun weilding dude with white hair and red coat. O.O Dante! He was a side character in the story which is totally awesome. We talked from 7 to 9:30 before leaving for home. ^^;
Japanime movies in theaters!
It is decided that I will go see the Death Note live action movie on 5/20 with Christine-neechan. Theresa-neechan doesn't want to see it but is contemplating seeing Bleach. So many anime movies lately.... The other one that will be shown is The Girl Who Lept Through Time. Can't wait until 5/20! Planning to bring my Death Note to the showing...in case they're bad guys there, of course! ^.^

After my previous wall-o-text post, I will spare you guys and post something short. ^^; Cute too! There is no end to the animated dances on nico nico...not necessarily a bad thing. D.Gray Man Caipirinha vid. (Check my previous post for the mp3 of the song. It's nice!) Youtube link here. This linkie is dedicated to Pearl-chan since she is a D.Gray Man fan. ^.^ (FYI, Allen with midriff showing is squee worthy...so is Kanda with hair down. Chibi-hammer FTW!)

TL;DR : Reflections of Enchanted Arms
I just finished watching Enchanted Arms. It was an interesting story, but as mentioned before, not tremendously spectacular. To give it a proper intro, Atsuma is a student at a school for enchanters. He is labelled dangerous since his right arm absorbs ether and he shows raw power rather then mere skill. However, his laid-back nature is the antithesis of his best friend, Toya. Toya is top student, serious, but gives in to the whims of Atsuma at the behest of his admirer, Makoto. Makoto is flaming gay. That doesn't just describe his sexual orientation, but also his personality. That in itself is pure win...if only his English VA was not so exaggerated in his speech. Almost cliched in dialogue with 'omelettes of love with pinkest of pickles' and the like. *headdesk* But I'll get into dialogue later. The other characters that we meet throughout the story have their own quirks and fit together strangely. Karin has a hot temper and has a calm bodyguard Raigar that I strangely took a liking to near the second half of the story. Out of all the characters, the one I find most annoying at the beginning was Yuki. Putting aside the high pitch of her voice, she appears and disappears without purpose only to finally join up with the team. (I guess storywise, that was the only way for her to join the party. >.<) My most fav character is 'Mystery Man'. Yes, that is his name. His open chest outfit, blond hair with sunglasses...though he exudes more pheromones then mystery, his character is more subtle then the others which I love.
Storyline is weak. Things are as predictable as they come. When they said the floor is going to give out and it collapses in the next second, I basically facepalmed. Going into danger to go after a dog is a weak plot device. Effective, but weak. The first villian in the story is never the real villan and we learn that very quickly. What kills me is that the history of how Karin and Atsuma met shows up in flashbacks, but never truly explained. Yes, it happens because this occured, but why they were in the situation in the first place was left up in the air. The subplots of the story seem to surround Raigar alot (though Yuki gets a short background chapter) which isn't a bad thing. It truly fleshed out Raigar's character which is why dialogue with him kept on turning funnier and funnier. (The part where he was running away from the Sage is almost OOC, but is acceptable by that point.) The last portion before the end fight was very cliched in it's moments. Everyone 'bonded' with the main character, presented him with gifts and the dialogue reflected that. Corniness and fluff. I don't know why that was necessary, but it happened twice (once outside the house, and then again in Atsuma's room. O.o)
I think the turnoff of the story is dialogue and voice. Some of the NPCs had grating voices, but I can accept it to a point. However, many people have turned 'punkish'. We have NPCs saying 'He is a total loser' with a reply of 'totally' is on the level of juvenile. The Ascetic Monk is another version of the wise turtle from 'Finding Nemo'. Think calm surfer dude. ^^; I really don't know what the writers were thinking when they were writing such dialogue, but it really detracts from the story. The voices actually fit the dialogue in it's 2-D nature which borders on annoying. It didn't help that the NPCs had names that were WTF in nature. Below is a list of gems....
Walking Dictionary
Well Bred Lady
Man who wants to be strong.
Woman full of Strange Rumors
Golem Maniac
Adored Old Man
Casanova
Girl who always looks uneasy
Boastful man
Foolish man
Shifty-looking man
Man with many enemies
Man known as "The Phoenix"
Town Sneak
Girl Who Gets What She Wants
Samurai who eats a lot
Lovebird Husband
Vain Samurai
Boy with Sparkling Eyes
Crazy pizza
I can't take them seriously when they sound like that and have these kind of names...and their names have nothing to do with their dialogue or role. (Humor value?) What is worse is that the main characters have bad dialogue as well. Atsuma (main character that he is) also has issues with accents. I do not mean that he speaks English with a different accent, but more like he accentuates words at the wrong time. Also, the last few hours seem like he is totally forced in his lines. (It just didn't feel real.) Thankfully, no one else seems to have that problem. <.<; Like I mentioned previously, he kept on calling 'Makoto' as 'Ma-Kah-to' which drove me nuts. >.< Atsuma's sarcasm at some points borders on annoying. I don't even want to go into how mentally slow he is.... >.< Some of the BGM was also inappropriate at times...though that could be me nitpicking.
Fav points. As mentioned, I love the Mystery Man, though I wish he retained his macho characteristics at the end.... I also like Makoto because of his devotion, if not just his gayness. ^^; Fav moment is when they won't let Giggling Man say his real name which is total win. Letting Atsuma see the traitor just because he promised to tell the guard a juicy secret about Karin was bascially *headdesk*. Lord Tokimune and his 'moment' after seeing the Queen of Ice is hilarity. The dialogue of Tokimune's bodyguards was *headexplody*. Male bonding = chess. o.O Dialogue is funny, if not mildly convincing. Fav. clips below.
Makoto (to Atsuma): I made him my omelettes of love, using only the freshest PINK PICKLES!
Atsuma (to Karin): You really are...high maintenance.
Mystery Man: Are my ways mysterious to you? That's because I'm the Mystery Man! Ah ha!
Sayaka: Please, come inside.
Atsuma: This...is the way in?
Sayaka: Yes, to the tea room.
Karin: You have to crouch down to get inside? How delightful!
Atsuma: I get the feeling Karin's really taking to Kyoto...
Atsuma: I think...you know...I'm gonna sleep in here with Raigar.
Karin: What?
Raigar: Atsuma, you don't have to...
Atsuma: Hey, don't get me wrong, okay? I'm not doing this for you! I mean... Karin snores so loudly and Yuki grinds her teeth... It's like sleeping in a jungle! So...
Karin: How rude!
Yuki: You don't just tell everyone things like that!
Karin: Well, enjoy the storeroom then, Atsuma!
Yuki: Bleh!
Ascetic Monk: Brother, you dig me? Take a chill pill.
Mystery Man: Hey.
Persistent Samurai: What now?
Mystery Man: There's just one thing I'd like you to do for me.
Persistent Samurai: Yeah, what?
Mystery Man: Collapse.
Persistent Samurai: Huh?!
Mystery Man: Taah!
Persistent Samurai: Uah...!
Mystery Man: Just as I requested...thank you so much.
Mystery Man: Hey!
Hardworking Samurai: Who are you?!
Mystery Man: A warrior of love!
Atsuma (to the Mystery Man): Thx for the love letter
Toya: Then I'll have to force you to 'break' me!
*spoilers*
Sayaka: You see...Raigar and I are to be..married...!
Karin: Eh?!
Yuki: No way!
Atsuma: Married?! You mean like...married?! That's insane! This is Raigar we are talking about!
Raigar: ...Huh. Is that such a strange thought? That I might be engaged?
Atsuma: But Raigar! Raigar Raigar Raigar...! I thought, I mean... I mean...I thought that, you know... ...That women didn't interest you.
Raigar: Really...what does that mean?
Atsuma: Well, you don't pay them much attention... And you're like...a father figure to me, but... Sometimes, you know...when you look at me...I see a fire there...? Or maybe...some moisture, around the eyes, perhaps?
Raigair: Excuse me!?
Yuki: Yeah...I heard that was quite common among Knights. You know, all the boys together...
Karin: Really?! Raigar!
Raigar: I don't know what he's talking about! I'm straight as an arrow, my lady!
Karin: Oh, don't worry about it, Raigar. I'm not bothered, either way.
Yuki: Yeah! There's nothing wrong with it!
Karin: Love is free, Raigar, love is free!
Raigar: My lady, please, stop mocking me!
Karin: ...Hey, you don't have to get so angry! I'm just joking, okay?
Yuki: Time to see her father, Raigar! I hope this goes well for you!
Raigar: I don't know what you mean...
Yuki: You're going to be married, okay? You need to shake some sense into her, grab her and plant a big fat hot one on her lips!
Karin: Yuki is right! Then she'll melt, fall into your arms and let us pass!
Atsuma: Yeah, I like you too, Karin.
Karin: Eh? You do?
Atsuma: Of course. I like Yuki and Raigar, too. I like you more than an omelet curry burger!
Karin: ...Haah...
Atsuma: Hey...what's the sigh for?
Karin: ...Oh...nothing...
Toya: ...Thank you. Please...help Atsuma...
Makoto: He might be a moron...but he's our moron...
Karin: No problem! He's a precious moron to us too!
Yuki: Yes, a vital moron.
Raigar: An irreplaceable moron.
Atsuma: Would you quit it with this moron stuff!
*end spoilers*
The game has two endings, bad and good. Bad ending is when you decide to kill your friend. Good ending is with all the bad guys dead and everyone is celebrating. I also love the kiss at the very end. I won't say between whom. ^.^
Hm...this may be longest review ever of a game I only kinda like. That is because a game of this caliber (for the PS3) should be alot better...but falls short in many places. The main character needs improvement voice-wise, and the dialogue is amusing if not inappropriate. I think the mix of humor mixed in with seriousness deters from the story. If the humor is in of itself, it would have been wonderful...which is why my fav bits was actually the funny moments. I guess that is why this title stands unique. One last thing though, there is no cast list for the English VAs. The credits ony show Atsuma's English VA and no one elses. o.O I really like Mystery Man's voice. I think he was done by Liam O'Brien (Lezard Valeth, Valkyrie Profile: Silmaria.) Only guessing since I think I recognize it. ^^; Enough typing, time to sleep!

EVA on the menu!
The EVA craze is not so much of a craze but a fandom that (fortunately/unfortunately) will never die. To celebrate the release of the regular edition of the movie dvd, Tokyo cafes and restaurants have put out Eva treats on their menu. LCL orange juice (with nekkid chibi-Rei's on the cup,) Sachiel squid-ink pasta (with angel head made out of cheese,) and Misato's curry ramen are just a few of the different delights served. Each restaurant/cafe serves a slightly different menu which makes me want to go to Japan just so I can eat EVERYTHING. ^^; 'I want to order a glass of LCL with EVA honey cake with a side of Lilith please!' (FYI...aka. spoiler...Lilith is actually crucified on the plate just like in the anime. ^.^)
Unknown 801 Media title!
Yaoi news! 801 Media states that they'll be putting out a title that 'you all asked for' and that the higher ups 'tried to talk [them] out of it'. Yumm...sounds like juicy title. Some possible titles pop up in the comments, some of my favs being Okane ga Nai (which makes some sense that people might not like it due to it's shota hints) and Gravitation doujinshi (obvious why people won't want to touch it... *ahem* TMI anus view. O.o) Under Grand Hotel was suggested only because people want it (me too,) even though others are certain that couldn't be it since MANY PUBLISHERS would want the title. Don't know when they'll announce the title, but it's always fun to see what is new. ^.^
Libre info
This piece of news was posted on the editor blog of Libre. Giapet.net's post about this said it best, but bascially, Libre is looking for another publisher to for their stalled CPM titles. (You can check out the gia post for the overview of what happened, if CPM vs. Libre news is new to you.) Of course, we don't know which publisher will take on these titles...especially Viewfinder. On one hand, it's an extremely popular title with a huge following...many publishers wouldn't mind taking it on. However, CPM still have claims to the title. BL publishers are on good terms with each other, but if another major company takes the yaoi bait, this might escalate into a legal battle. (CPM has already said they'll sue Libre for licensing issues...but nothing has happened yet.)
Unrelated (and related in some way,) some are saying Viewfinder could be the mystery title that 801 Media is dropping hints about. It isn't highly possible, but with the delays in vol. 4 coming to the US, I can't help but wish/hope that it is true. Then again, I'm hoping that CPM and Libre can work out their problems and get back on speaking terms. Business and yaoi don't mix. Unless CPM decides to turn uke and bend over backwards (figuratively) to accomodate seme Libre. ^^;
EDIT: 801 Media confirmed that they do not have Viewfinder. ^^;

Pic post: Say 'awwwww'...
Since I promised, here are pics from last night's dinner. ^.^ Here is a before and after pic of my meal....

Of course, people took couple pics. After every pic, all of us around the table went 'awwwww'....

One of the girls (not me ^^;) told two guys to take 'couple pics' as well. *collective 'wwwww'*

Of course, that wasn't enough....

Um...the background info for the two facial expressions was more like 'father' and 'son'...according to the guy in white. (Me being yaoi fangirl that I am...went O.o when I heard that. lol)

Golden Week in Japan = weekend of rest for me
I did absolutely nothing cosplay related this weekend. *reprimands self* Instead, I have been sticking with my exercise regiment a la. DDREX2 and watching Enchanted Arms. *points at previous post* I'll post more about EA once I finish watching it because my intro post is not a good intro post at all.
Today was typical as in I went to church. Today was atypical since I went out to eat with church friends afterwards (which I haven't done in a loooong time since I'm always busy.) The main course of the evening was steak...though mine was a 24 oz. prime rib. *drools in memory* I finished my plate (will upload pics later because it was HUGE) though I must admit that I shared much of it with friends. (Of course, they shared their steak with me too. ^.^) Dessert was pecan pie and chocolate ice cream topped off with whipped cream. Umai! It was a filling meal...but I ended the evening with DDR when I came home. ^^; The evening was filled with hilarity, picture taking, some fanservice moments (when two guys were feeding each other ice cream... O.O) and lots of food. Pics are with my friend so I'll post them when I get them from her. Maybe.... ^.^
FYI, Golden Week is a week of holidays in Japan. It stretches from April 29th (Showa Day) to May 5th (Children's Day). *points at calender in viable section* *pimps yaoi calendar* ^.^ There is no work/school and people get to enjoy family gatherings, food and festivities. *dreams about Japanese food*
I miss eating with you guys, P-chan and Pearl-chan...when is our next meeting?

Too much 'moron'...
I woke up at 1pm today...after sleeping around 3am. Yay for more sleep! ^.^ After recording a piano piece for church friends, I proceeded to play a few games and started watching Enchanted Arms. It seems to be a good game...but the storyline is not as compelling as the others I've seen. There are some things that annoy me from the beginning...one of them being that Atsuma (the main character in the story,) keeps on calling Makoto, 'Makato'. The third in the group, Toya says his name correctly, so why not Atsuma? But that is nitpicking from my part. Some of the NPCs have weird titles/names though. 'Workaholic guard', 'Brave child' (who was actually hiding/crying admist the battles,) 'Walking Dictionary' and 'Well-bred lady' to name a few. ^^; Who comes up with these things? This is also the first game I encountered that has a single character call someone a 'moron' repeatedly...over 10 times in a single row. I guess it sounds better in Japanese when the phrase is most likely 'baka', but it sounds excessive in English. There is more to it, but I'll leave it at that.
I'll add this though, one of the first bad guys is a walking pizza! Who can pick on a game with a walking pizza as an opponent? lol All of these points is within the first quarter of the game. I hope to see improvement, but it's okay as is. ^.^

Other then cosplay, I hope to watch Enchanted Arms which Theresa-neechan gave me. I don't want to do too much.... Right now, I'm finishing my e-mail to my supervisor updating her on the craptastic appt. I had this afternoon. Then home!
