I'm on the net! *hides*

Vidgle.com finally posted their interviews from I-Con 27. You can find me at timestamp 32:28. ^^; They had LOTS of interviews and it was fun watching/hearing other people's commments about the con. They combined and mixed the interviews of the entire weekend. Mine was held on sunday around noon. I'm definitely not media material (which is hilarious since I'm a cosplayer. ^^;) Note to self: next time, stop smiling so much. <___< *runs away*

It's so shiny... o.o

I met up with Christine-neechan and Theresa-neechan tonight so that I can lend them my three volumes of the Finder series. (They only read vol. 1, which they gave to me. They never read the other two.) We talked about the usual over dinner (the VGL concert last saturday, X-Japan in September, Devil May Cry 4, etc...) Last saturday, Theresa-neechan presented me with the Devil May Cry 4 dvd (the movie scenes in the game, O.O) the first 4 anime episodes of DMC (which came with the LE game) and the movie scenes of Enchanted Arms. Christine-neechan had given me a beaded Hello Kitty cellphone charm. Kawaii! Today, Theresa-neechan gave me the original Japanese Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix game. She has two so she gave me one.... O.O Can't play it since I can't understand Japanese (though my reading improved, I still don't know what I'm reading. ^^;) But I totally love it! The cover is so shiny. *stares in awe*

DDR Extreme training!

Christine-neechan also lent me her two DDR games, Extreme and Extreme 2. Going to practice every night to shape up for my next convention! (Also to shape up for my health of course. ^.^) I also want to master the 'pressed' steps that I never got the hang of. Let's start dancing! (Not tonight though...I'm going to sleep soon. ^.^)

As promised, I found a few youtube clips. Nicer ones will be linked here if/when I find them in the future. Please note, these are all from last night's performance. There are more clips online featuring their other concerts with the same music and MVs.

Click here for someone's else's blog about the evening as well as an interesting critique about how the evening was held.

'All Personal Recording Devices are Allowed' (No press. ^-^)

If I had known the above statement held true, I would have recorded my fav clips with my camera...though I didn't bring my camera. ^^; However, Christine-neechan had pics so I'll upload pics once I get them from her.

I met up with Theresa-neechan at 5pm and we headed off to Book Off where we browsed for about an hour. Then, we met up with Christine-neechan back at Kinokuniya and ate dinner at Cafe Zaiya on the second floor. (No bentos so I had a salad with ume onigiri. Oishi!) We went to the theater and arrived before 7:30. As mentioned on the Video Game Live website, a cosplay contest was held for VG characters. Vincent Valentine won hands down. (There weren't that many cosplayers.)

The concert opened with a movie clip of Mrs. Pacman being chased by 3 ghosts all over NY. (They even went through Times Square.) It ended with her being cornered and the colors filled the screen. Then the real concert started with a medley of old game music that started with Pong. Frogger and Asteroid was even part of the mix. Ah...memories of 8bit graphics.... ^.^ Metal Gear Solid was next complete with Solid Snake walking on stage in full gear and even an ! on his head. Of course, right behind him was the BOX! *cheers all over* The MC (full of awesome) was actually the one in the box...he sprung out at the end of the song. ^-^ There were two segments of audience members being chosen to play a game onstage with the orchestra playing the BGM. The first was 'Space Invaders' (who didn't start out so well, but did better at the end) and the second was a competition between 2 people over 'Frogger'. The first one kept on dying 2 lanes before the goal and saved only two frogs. The second contender saved all the frogs. Of course, he won the competition as well as a Wii. O.O

Other music pieces to note were 'World of Warcraft', 'Medal of Honor', 'Tron', 'Halo' and 'Sonic'. The renown pianist (same one found online) appeared and performed the first part of Mario blind folded and the completed the rest of the medley without hinderance. He also played a Final Fantasy medley. (I wish I got this part on camera!) The orchestral version of 'Hikari' from Kingdom Hearts was the piece played after intermissions and 'One Winged Angel' from Final Fantasy was the first encore with Castlevania as the second encore. Both Kingdom Heart and Final Fantasy pieces was known to the audience even as the MC was introducing it. ^____^ Uncertain set list below:

    First Act
    Classic Games Medley
    Metal Gear: Solid
    Metroid
    God of War
    Mario Bros. (piano)
    Final Fantasy Medley (piano)
    Medal of Honor
    Space Invader (Interactive)
    Civilization IV
    Tron
    Legend of Zelda

    Second Act
    Mario Bros.
    Sonic the Hedgehog
    Frogger (Interactive)
    Kingdom Hearts - Hikari
    Tetris (Nintendo)
    Warcraft
    Starcraft II
    Halo
    Halo 3

    Encore
    Final Fantasy VII - One Winged Angel
    Castlevania

BTW, the CEO of Capcom was there (friend of the guy who was playing 'Space Invaders') as well as the composer for 'Halo'. (The composer of Halo actually sang the famous opening for the game. Tonight, he sang a bit on his own. o.O) At the end of the performance, the MC (who was guitarist for some of the songs, including 'One Wing Angel') along with the conductor and some of the soloists were at the lobby signing. We got our programs signed. ^.^ Later, oneechan x2 and I went to Penn station for a midnight snack at McD's while we wait for our trains.

Since people was able to record this performance, I hope to find clips online. Will link to them if I find them. ^-^

Caramell Dansen: Kichiku style!

In January, I thought the next dance sensation would be Kodomo no Jikan OP. However, I stand corrected: it is 'Caramell Dansen' dance and has been for some time. *bows to it's awesomeness* Put it in youtube search and clips from Japanese sharing site, nico nico will fill your screen with ultra cuteness and sweet animation. I have several favs, but who can resist dancing yaoi? Check out the dance of BL game, Kichiku Megane. Kawaii! (Since youtube lowers the quality of the vid, you can check it out in unaltered glory on nico nico if you registered. ^.^)

useless >.<

The day didn't start out too well and the feeling stayed the same throughout the day. I went to Qns today and ate with okaasan at East Buffet. Food was so-so and the price fit for mediocre food. (East Buffet has a 50% off special.) I went to Manhattan for a few hours to deal with CRAP aka. work I should've done yesterday. Going back to Flushing, my day picked up considerably. I sat at Starbucks for a good while with hot chocolate. (My fav. place to go when I need to rest. ^^;) Finally finished reading Ai no Kusabi vol. 2 (took me this long since I kept on re-reading the first few chapters. Riki's meeting with Iason was filled with awesome and smex...couldn't help reading it a few times. ^^;) Did some browsing at various stores and bought some silver butterfly earrings. Kirei.... P-chan called and announced plans with Alby-kun, but I couldn't join in since it was going to be too late for me getting home. Met up with okaasan and we went home.

Why I'm feeling crappy now is because I got a call from my doctor about the results of the ultrasound two weeks ago. Seems like there is something wrong with me, but I don't exactly know what yet. Okaasan proceeds to reprimand me about 'not sleeping enough', 'not eating right' and anything along those lines. The usual crap spewing from her mouth. I don't want to hear it. In either case, I'm going for further examination this monday to see what the hell is wrong with me.

VG Live!

Tomorrow, I'm going to see the concert 'Video Game Live' with my two godsisters in Manhattan. We're meeting at 6 at Kinokuniya for food before the concert. Yay! I'll most likely get there early and hit Book Off from some serious manga browsing. ^.^ I think Theresa-neechan will be arriving early too...but I don't know when yet. Guess I'll find out tonight....

I took a mini break after my appt in the morning. I headed to Strandbooks and bought vol. 14 of Maison Ikkoku by Takahashi Rumiko-sensei (which is the last vol. before Viz re-released it as a 15 vol. series.) I also picked up BL manga Great Place High School by Koujima Naduki-sensei and Fullemtal Alchemist manga profiles. Maison Ikkoku is such a sweet series and I always wanted the ending vol. even if I don't have the entire set. (I also want the last two vols. of Ranma 1/2 in English...even though I have the entire set in Chinese already. ^.^)

Con Report for NYCC '08

    [ + ] Saturday, April 19 - Ritsuka

Surprising, the pics came out pretty good. O.O I'll add pics, info and edit as needed, though this is pretty much complete.

NYCC: double take

This year's convention was similar in feel to NYAF. They are both run by the same people, so the process was pretty much the same. There weren't much in delays and events started and ended on time. The cosplay circuit was still almost nil compared to large anime cons (but that was expected from the experience last year.) Improvement was actually going to the convention early to avoid the long lines...though this time, it wasn't even a problem since pre-reg would have gotten their tickets already. ^^;

I didn't go to the 801 Media panel that I was planning to hit. It was a combo panel with Speed Racer and DMP. I understand DMP and 801 Media together...but Speed Racer? Well, DMP is now selling Speed Racer manga boxset so that explains some of it...but 801 Media?

Follow up: Industry releases

I was able to get info on the releases that will be taking place. Giapet.net covered all the industry panels with an indept summary about all of them. VIZ is re-releasing vol. 1-3 of One Pound Gospel starting in July and release the vol. 4 in December. (There was a 10 year hiatus between vol. 3 and 4 in Japan. The series finally ended in 2006.) The manga and light novels of Suzumiya Haruhi series will be released by Yen Press. 801 Media will be releasing Ze by Shimizu Yuki-sensei and Koi wa Aserazu by Tennohji Mio-sensei. June Manga licensed a bunch of new manga, my fav being vol. 2 and 3 of Hero Heel by Tateno Makoto-sensei. DMP will be re-releasing some books in smaller print and lower price, $9.95. Yay! ^.^ Mentioned some time ago, but now confirmed by Dark Horse, Clover by CLAMP will be released as a 512 pg omnibus (w/ 32 color pages) for $19.95. O.O I am totally buying it! Good news! Loveless vol. 8 will be released in September. Yay! Tokyopop also has the Kyou Kara Maoh light novels. (They also have the manga which was announced at NYAF last year.) CMX has the Ballad of Shinigami manga (Seven Seas has the light novels.) Funimation does not have release dates for Darker than Black and Ouran Highschool Host Club. Bandai Entertainment does not have release dates for Clamp School Detectives. ^^;

post-con thoughts

Today was awesome. I won't say how awesome until I get the full con-report up. Pics might be few and in between since I haven't looked at what I took yet (too afraid to see the results, ^^;) but I'll supplement pics with those I find online. There should be more postings of this con then I-Con (of course) due to the sheer size of it. There WON'T be any pics of TM Revolution aka. Nishikawa Takanori-san since the no photo/recording policy was in place. However, offical press was happily clicking away so I hope to grab a few of their pics. ^.^

I'm tired to the max so I'm sleeping now. Con-report will be up tomorrow and additions/edits will be made throughout the week. Oyasumi! -.-Z

last minute prep

Picking a new camera is giving me more stress then it should, so the picking and choosing will occur at my own leisure...after the con. ^^; After looking through the Japanime guest list, I won't be getting VA autographs this time. I met all of the VAs already and got the signatures I want in the past. The only signing that I'll be heading for is TM Revolution. That'll be my no. 1 priority tomorrow: get to the con, pick up my badge, get an autograph ticket, shop, get the autograph. Panels are secondary and I'll be waiting on line early for the concert. *packs fully charged Nintendo DS*

I'll be sewing up my tail tonight and preparing the cosplay stuff for tomorrow morning. I plan to sleep as early as possible since I'll be waking up at 5am. O.O My next update will be after the con. Ja ne! ^.^

Otanjoubi omedatou, Rei-chan!

Today's mp3 is dedicated to the senshi of fire, Hino Rei. It's one of her most upbeat songs and has an interesting rythem to it. My most favorite manga story of her is a short titled Casablanca Memories. It is in that story that reveals a deeper side of Rei which reflects on her thoughts of family and love. Rei is very passionate about her thoughts and she never falters which garner admiration from her friends and peers. My most favorite feature of her personality is her poise and elegence. Even as a 'lady,' Rei has an inner strength that I always admire.

Vidgle I-Con masquerade

Vidgle has uploaded their vid of the masquerade. It has almost everything that went on that night. From the audio problems, starting skits, the wave, part of the penguin dances, all the rest of the skits and make up skits and winners. Clams, mussels and more clams!

Tonight, one of my co-workers (admin staff = higher salary) took me and a couple others out for dinner. The motion was of course a dinner treat for one of my co-workers who left last week. *sniff* The venue of the occasion was La Mela, a restaurant in Little Italy. We had an appetizer of calamari and mussels. The mussels were sooo yummy! *drools in memory* Actually, everything was yummy. I ordered linguini with clams which had just a nice small serving of pasta (small in comparison to other Italian restaurants with the serving size of 3 instant noodle packs) covered with over a pound of clams in white sauce. O.O I never ate so much stuff with shells before. My pile of shells were HUGE. I somehow finished everything and even ate most of the slice of tiramisu cake that we were suppose to share. Everyone else was full and couldn't eat anymore. ^^; Me and my appetite....

Youtube I-Con amvs

Finally! After searching for such a long time, I found the amv titles that were featured at this year's convention. Below are my favs from the competition.

    Escaping But Not Far - Death Note ~ Entrant in the Drama/Serious category. I love the pacing of this vid. It's fast and matches the beat very well. This is a Light-centric amv.
    Great Destroyer - Death Note ~ Winner in the Action category. Download to view. Another awesome Death Note vid: the effects and feel show the anime at it's best.
    Accidentally in Love - FLCL ~ Winner in the Romance/Sentimental category. This vid could almost be an entry for comedy...but that could be because FLCL is such a funny anime. ^-^
    Eternal - RomeoxJuliet ~ Best in Show. Download to view. (Click on 'Mandi Tinker Eternal'.) Beautifully done.
    Mitternacht - Various ~ Audience Choice Award. Download to view. My ultimate fav.
    Paint it Black - Fullmetal Alchemist ~ Winner in the Drama/Serious category. Download to view. I'm not very fond of this song, but it matches well with the scenes that are shown.
    Boom Boom Dollar - Fullmetal Alchemist ~ Entrant in the Upbeat/Comedy category. When we think of 'boom', we think of Kimbley, the Crimson Alchemist. ^.^

...almost anyway. I went to the doctor's today for a check up and had a sonagram of my heart as well as an ultrasound of my thyroid. Sugoi.... So that's what my heart looks like. O.o Spent most of my time waiting and became very hungry. <.<; Met up with Theresa-neechan at 7:30 for dinner.

So much BL, so little time...

We went to the usual restaurant on Price St. and I presented her with the Yu Yu Hakusho artbook I got in Taiwan. Topics of discussion include various gaming consoles, manga, video games, BL publishing issues (aka. CPM vs. Libre) and conventions. Christine-neechan came with her cousin at the end of our meal. We talked over dessert (the fried ice cream was delicious) and I gave Christine-neechan her bag of manga. She was happy to finally receive FMA vol. 18. ^-^ Since I gave them a copy of the game Enzai, I'll be e-mailing the walkthrough to them. another party, another departure

Yesterday was the goodbye party for one of the higher ups in the company. It took place at the Golden Unicorn in Chinatown. The food was good (albiet salty) and I got to meet some old friends. For the occasion, I didn't make one of my personalized t-shirts. Instead, I coordinated a scarpbook for the person. It was nice being able to work on something non-stressful at work. Someone from the mayor's office was present as well as representatives from various agencies and hospitals. If it wasn't a goodbye party, it would seem more like a networking party. ^^;

Afterwards, I went to the Green Tea Cafe with some of my co-workers and we talked until past 9pm. I ordered condensed milk and peanut butter on toast. Yummy! This mini-gettogether took place since one more co-worker (one of the guys) was also leaving this week. Actually, the other male in our group will be leaving next week so we're going to have to do this all over again. *sniff* I already finished drawing t-shirts for both of them.

It has been awhile since I get to hang out with my co-workers and it was enjoyable all the same. After all these 'leaving the agency' dinners/snacks, I hope we can return to our usual happy-going-to-dinner-after-work meetings.

today...a high possibility of rain

P-chan mentioned that she wanted to take pics today...only if it's not raining of course. Since the weather calls for rain, the photo op has to be postponed. Arigato in advance to P-chan for offering up your awesome pic taking skills. ^.^

Instead, I'm going to see a doctor today since my chest has been bugging me. <.<; Hopefully, I can see my godsisters tonight. I still haven't given them all the stuff I bought from Taiwan yet. Also, we need to talk about the upcoming VG concert that we're going to at the end of the month. And catch up on other things. ^^;

jewelery commission

TRC's Kamui has a necklace. I'm going to have commission someone to make the necklace since I can't work with metal. So far, the pricing for this is pretty good ($15-25 including the shipping charges.) From what I can tell, there is no official (or even non-official, Made in China) necklace. I'll have to think on this some more as well as figure out how to make that belt....

Some pics of me...elsewhere.

I uploaded some pics of myself to my gallery on cosplay.com. There are only three. Two are scans from the pics I took at the cosclips booth and one I found on vidgle.com, the site who interviewed me. The scans are really bad. >.< The photographer is awesome, but I really need to work on my smile and posing. My fav pic is the one from vidgle.com. I wonder if I can recreate that moment.... ^^;

Thoughts on the competition...

I was startled when they told me that they're going to be putting me in the advanced category. After seeing the Seth cosplayer win in the Novice division, I thought, 'Okay, I'm not going to be able to win if that is considered novice.' In all honesty, I though the Kadaj cosplayer would be the one since her cosplay was awesome. Working with pleather is not easy and her cosplay came out crisp and clean. Sure, there are other Kadaj cosplayers, but out of everyone in the con and competition, I thought hers was one of the best. (Not counting the cosplaying judges of course. ^.^)

When they initially announced 'Tomoyo from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles', I didn't acknowledge it for a couple seconds. Going up and accepting the award was a blur. Being acknowledged in the cosplay circuit is awesome and I hope to live up to the expectations I placed upon myself.

and now for future cosplays...

This Tomoyo-hime cosplay is still not perfect. After resting a bit, I'll be going back to working on it to make it perfect. I'll also be working on my pose, smiling moments...etc. for future pictures. (Photoshoot, P-chan? ^^;) My next cosplay will be Kamui from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles. This shouldn't induce overnight sew-a-thons...I hope. ^^;

Tomoyo-hime cosplay completed!

We worked way into the morning (*ahem* 6am) but it's completed. (Another all-nighter cosplay prep, someone please hit me over the head before I do another one of these. >.<)

    Tomoyo-Hime
    Process: 100%
    Length of time: about 53 hrs.
    Cost: $74
    Cosplay attire: purple dress w/ white/purple top, white belt with strips headpiece, Moon Bell, purple ribbon (for hair,) goddess cloth, white sandals, white socks
    Prep needed: Bottom part of hair needs to be wavy (results achieved with braids and hairspray)
    Hardest part: The top of the dress where the purple cloth gather together was so hard hold flat. Not to mention the collar of the dress kept on being too low. It's a seemingly simple issue but took most of the time to fix.

    Easiest part: Making the Moon Bell. It's kind of not good looking so I may remake it in the future. ^^;)

    Most favorite part: The skirt is a complete circle. I won't know how it feels wearing it yet since I haven't worn it really. ^^;

I have to prepare for judging this morning! Ganbarre, Rai!

The top part of the dress has finally been sewn together with the bottom part of the skirt. (Skirt still needs hemming though.) I already ironed on the symbol onto the two strips and they look fantastic. (Simple, but I love the effect. ^.^)

    Tomoyo-Hime: 85% done
    Still making: purple dress, white/purple top, white belt with strips
    Portion completed: headpiece, Moon Bell, purple ribbon (for hair,) goddess cloth
    Materials that I have: mirror, purple chiffon fabric
    Materials needed: purple fringe (maybe)
    Estimated time: 47 hrs.
    Prep needed: Bottom part of hair needs to be wavy (results achieved with braids and hairspray)
    Total cost (thus far): $74

To complete this cosplay, I'm sewing the strips onto the belt and sewing the purple portion onto the dress. Once that is done, the two crescent moons can be sewn onto the purple top and the mirror will be pinned on.

not done yet >.<

Even though we worked late into last night, my cosplay is still unfinished. The sleeves were giving us alot of problems since where it connects with the rest of the top was not exactly right. However, the purple top is almost done. I just need to add it to the white top (once it's finished) and then sew the crescent moons on. I also need to finish making the belt, strips and goddess cloth. Once the strips are made, then I can place the symbols on it using iron on fabric. >.<

    Materials needed: purple fringe (maybe)
    Estimated time: 42 hrs.

I'm leaving for the con at 4:45pm. For now...I'm still sewing.

X-Japan is coming to NY!

I was sorta disappointed at not being at X-Japan's 3 day concert at the Tokyo Dome (which had lots of OMG moments...like when Yoshiki fainted during an encore piece and had to be carried off the stage... O.O) but am totally ecstatic when I heard the news: X-Japan is coming to NY this fall! *fangirl squeal* Madison Square Garden on September 13. There is no need for hotel rooms, just need to buy the ticket once it comes out. And I am planning to get good seats for this. ^-^ *dances around the office*

cosplay planning

I picked up my shoes from Diana-chan already. (Arigato, Diana-chan! *hugs*) I'll be cosplaying Ritsuka (Loveless) on Friday, Tomoyo-hime (Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles) on Saturday and my usual black kimono on Sunday. Cosplay judging will be on Saturday morning and I will be on stage at the Cosplay Fashion show that night. It's only going to be a walk-on and I have to practice posing tonight once I finish my dress. ^^;

and we have skirt! and other cosplay issues

After many alterations, I finally finished the skirt. Okaasan still needs to help me hem it though since I suck at hemming. ^^;

    Tomoyo-Hime: 48% done
    Still making: purple dress, white/purple top, white belt with strips, goddess cloth, mirror necklace
    Portion completed: headpiece, Moon Bell, purple ribbon (for hair)
    Materials that I have: purple fabric, white fabric, mirror, iron-on paper, purple chiffon fabric
    Materials needed: purple fringe (maybe)
    Estimated time: 35 hrs.
    Total cost (thus far): $74

I stupidly left my shoes in Taiwan and so Diana-chan's mother bought it back to NY for me. I'll be meeting Diana-chan tomorrow to pick up my shoes. They are my sneakers (with wheels) that I use for my Ritsuka cosplay. ^^; Very important since I'm cosplaying Ritsuka on Friday.

Borders run

I went to 2 Borders in the last two days since I've been trying to buy Ai no Kusabi vol. 2. Even though they were listed online as having at least one copy, both stores were out. >.< Finally, I called up several stores and located one book. They have it on hold for me. Finally! I'm going there to pick it up today. ^.^

The novels are coming out pretty quickly. Already, there are dates for vol. 3 and 4, both of which are coming out this year. (That's 3 releases in one year. O.O) There shouldn't be much of a surprise though...the books are quite small. I'm still waiting for the announcement for novel vol. 4 of Only the Ring Finger Knows. It's already out in Japan.

back to sewing

It's coming along slowly.... I may or may not use the fabric I bought in Taiwan. As mentioned before, the shade is redder then the purple I'm using. The only way I can use that fabric is if I have enough for the top portion of my outfit since the colors have to match.

    Tomoyo-Hime: 30% done
    Still making: purple dress, white/purple top, white belt with strips, goddess cloth, mirror necklace
    Portion completed: headpiece, Moon Bell, purple ribbon (for hair)
    Materials that I have: purple fabric, white fabric, mirror, iron-on paper, purple chiffon fabric
    Materials needed: purple fringe (maybe)
    Estimated time: 30 hrs.
    Total cost (thus far): $74

Of course, I'll be taking this friday off. The schedule for I-Con is already out. There aren't that many VAs like last year *is sad* and there are only a few panels that I really want to go to. I guess this convention will be another 'lite con', even more so then NYAF. ^^; The cosplay competition will still be pretty intense though. I'll do my best! Ganbarre!
