candy candy candy
I arrived at Penn Station yesterday morning in time to hear Pearl-chan leaving the house. I hung out at the bookstore for awhile catching up on Vampire Knight manga. Feeling hungry, I headed out to the restaurant, The Soda Shop close to 10am and settled myself in for a pre-breakfast. I ordered Belgian hot chocolate and a fruit scone which were both sweet and delicious. Pearl-chan arrived later and we had a convo with a window between us. (I was seated by the window and she waited outside for P-chan. Yes, we startled the other patrons next to me, but it was fun. ^.^) Our tools of communication were cell phones, hand gestures and pictochat...though she didn't have her DS. P-chan arrived soon after and we had breakfast.
I ordered mushroom omelette with hashbrowns while P-chan had blueberry pancakes with ice coffee and Pearl-chan had fish sandwich with large potato fries and ice coffee. P-chan shared her fruit with us and Pearl-chan gave me her salad while I gave her a piece of my omelette. It was an enjoyable breakfast while we discussed candies that we had when we were younger since the store featured those same candies. Dessert was a really yummy chocolate cake, but even my tummy couldn't finish it. ^.^ P-chan bought some candy before leaving, one of them was gum in a cigarette-like packaging.
I can haz game nao?
We decided to walk to EC to walk off breakfast. One the way, we stopped by the stuffed animal stand (that is always there) attracted by a panda bear. Pearl-chan bought one while the smaller plushies caught my eye. Turns out, there was a 3 for $5 deal so each of us chose one. I picked up an Eeyore head, Pearl-chan got a fat, black bunny and P-chan got a cute turtle. Mine went to hang on the bag next to my Alphonse clip. ^.^ At EC, we stayed long enough to confirm that FF IV for DS has arrived at the game store...but they were sold out and "More will be coming in the afternoon." We headed across the street to the game shop and found that they had the game...and it was only a doller more then EC. Pearl-chan bought the game and we headed up to Kinokuniya.
Junjou plz!
Kinokuniya had the Junjou Romantica artbook that Pearl-chan wanted as well as some plastic bookmarks, postcards and coasters. *drools* I refrained from buying them...now. (Maybe later. ^.^) We browsed through some of the new manga. There is a new manga series by Tateno Makoto, Hosutan e Youkoso which had cute guys on the cover. I discovered Phoenix Wright manga and drooled over vol. 20 of Fullmetal Alchemist. Pearl-chan and P-chan bought some food and drink from Cafe Zaiya while I picked up a shrimp tempura onigiri. They headed back to Qns while I waited for animemiz and crew at Bryant Park.
After eating my onigiri, I took a nap at one of the tables. It was nice breezy day and I actually fell asleep. So tired.... Animemiz and one another of her crew went to Governer's island for biking (I wanna go!) and had to take the ferry back. We settled ourselves at a bigger table when they arrived and me and the other dude began to battle it out in Jump Ultimate Stars. We were still battling when iceblueaya and 801megane arrived. 801megane presented me with 'junk' of mag of BL novel chapters and Passion vol. 1. Yay! *glomps 801megane* I added the box of business cards that I received from animemiz to the bag. (Cards are from the manga review site...I have my own cards now. ^^V) After some traded pokemon via DS and 801megane and I talked about Junjou Suzuki-san plushie, we headed over to Cafe Zaiya (the one next to Book Off) and got some food. It was filled with ppl so we had to sit in different corners. I got a egg salad sandwich and left for Qns after eating.
wiiii....
P-chan and Pearl-chan had both gone home afterwards to rest up. I headed to P-chan's house first (since I needed to utilize her restroom ^^;) only to find that P-chan was not home. After getting in touch with P-chan (accidentally) at Alby-kun's house, his mother drove P-chan and me (picking me up at the corner) to Pearl-chan house. Pearl-chan and I played Super Smash Bros on the wii and me losing brillantly. I fared better after adding a few CPUs and I had fun playing my fav characters: Kirby, Yoshi and Pikachu. My controlling of Kirby was much better, but my fav is Yoshi since I can turn others into eggs. ^-^ Pearl-chan chose 'human' characters and occasional pokemon. She was very good (being that this is her game and console). P-chan watched D.Gray Man while we duked it out. ^-^
Dinner was chinese takeout and we watched Petite Cosette which reminds me of Satoshi Kon's anime...but more goth and gore. I read a bit of the manga before, but it didn't prepare me for the WTF-ness of the short OVA series. Sadly, we didn't get to finish watching it since Alby-kun came to pick us up. But it was already 12am anyway.... ^^; P-chan and I are definitely watching the ending together at Pearl-chan's later!
P-chan squeezed into the 'back' of the two seater (don't ask me how) and I sat in the 'front' next to Alby-kun. Since he is meeting friends in Flushing, I thought we were going to Flushing. However, he ended up driving me to Jamaica station for which I'm always grateful. Arigato, Alby-kun! It was already 2am when I got home and I showered and went straight to bed. *yawn* Still sleepy but yesterday was an awesome day in itself. ^.^

meeting tomorrow
Tomorrow is my day off...but still waking early and heading out on the train...for my meeting with Pearl-chan and P-chan in the city. ^.^ Pearl-chan's choice 'The Soda Shop' sounds yummy and sweet which is perfect for breakfast. ^-^ I don't know what we'll be doing afterwards, but meeting together for breakfast is a rarity since my schedule wreaks havoc for scheduling anything. I'm also planning on meeting animemiz and crew in the afternoon (whenever they show up in the city) since animemiz has a few things to give me. Yay! I can't wait to see everyone!

Iron Chef at NYAF!
Another reason why NYAF is going to be awesome and I'm happy to not miss it: Iron Chef Japanese Masaharu Morimoto is going to be there! *cheers* He is going to be signing books (he wrote a book? A cookbook? ^^;) the after-con party (official btw) will be at his restaurant, Morimoto. I'm definitely going!
Thx to animemiz who received the press news and told me about it last night. ^.^ BTW, I think I'm going to have him sign the Iron Chef book that Alby-kun gave me several years ago. <3 Iron Chef FTW!

The movie dates for the 2nd Death Note movie have been announced: October 15 and 16 at 7:30pm both nights. Shonen Jump magazine subscribers can order advance tickets starting August 29 while the rest of us have to wait until September 5. My godsister and I are of course going to go. ^.^ Yay!
new HxH out in October!
May was when Togashi Yoshihiro-sensei started his latest hiatus. He did it so that he could work on 10 new chapters of HunterxHunter. In October, the new chapter will be out! *cheers* Hopefully, he won't go on hiatus again for at least...I dunno..until he puts out the rest of the new 10 chapters? That's like 2.5 months worth of stuff since the magazine is called 'Weekly Shonen Jump'. ^^; Ganbarre, Togashi-sensei!

videos...coming along
I found some vids for the masquerade but am not happy with most of them. There are still many skits that I want to link to. I added those that I found onto the saturday page so check it out there if you want to see some of my fav skits. ^^;
Otakon amvs!
Didn't catch any of the amv contest so here are the ones I found and loved. Some favs from before also won at Otakon: 'Love's In Your Eyes' (Eureka Seven) won first place in the Romance/Sentimental category, 'Word Play' (various) won first place in the Upbeat/Dance category and 'Harrasment of Kyon' (The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi) won first place in Comedy AND Best in Show. BTW, 'Word Play' won Almost Best in Show as well. O.O Did they make up that award on the spot? These amvs need to stop being entered in contests since they'll be sure to win. lol
Break the Chain - Death Note ~ First place in Drama category. Good pacing and rhythm.
Critical Mass - Code Geass ~ Second place in the Action category. I wouldn't think this song matches the anime...but this creator proves me wrong. ^.^
Fast Times at Furinkan High - Various ~ Second place in the Upbeat/Dance category. lol A mixture of classic and recent animes about school...and sometimes not.
I Had Sexual Intercourse While Making This Video - Death Note ~ Second place in the Comedy category. Mello is obsessed with shoes.... ^^;
Celestial Being Comes Crashing Down - Gundam 00 ~ Finalist in the Action category. Another interesting song match with anime...but awesome just the same.
Azure Aurora - Various ~ Finalist in the Action category. The transition between CG and cel clips were very smooth. One of my favs.
Sunset - Nodame Cantabile ~ Finalist in the Romance/Sentimental category. A sweet song for the duo of the series.
The Tainted Love of Haruhi Suzumiya - The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi ~ Finalist in the Upbeat/Dance category. Kyon has a few words to say to Haruhi.... I was impressed with this one.
There wasn't a Trailor/Parody category this year since it DQed itself. Not sure why, but that's what happened. ^^; I think they were still shown in the overflow amv contest though. Anyway, my favs finals from the non-existent category were:
Hellsingdocks - Hellsing ~ Kinda reminds me of the Cowboy Bebop parody openings...catchy. Anyway, isn't the heart of r&b rooted in jazz? ^^;
Eureka Transformers v2 - Eureka Seven ~ Strangely...it fits! ^.^
Beauty and the Baka - Fruits Basket ~ I cannot believe it...Kyo is the beast! My ultimate fav...it's so funny! ^-^

why no updates...?
I've been pretty much working on pics for the remainder of last week. Also, I've been trying to fix my external drive. P-chan and Pearl-chan have heard me complain up and down all about me transferring files, buying new drives and stuff...so I won't type much more about it. Just one last thing, I sent my external drive to a computer store...the one that is owned by my parents' friend and that I've been going to since I got laptops over 10 years ago. ^^; They're going to try to recover the last 4.5GB data that I can't seem to transfer. I should be able to pick up my data on thursday. Did I mention I'm going to stop typing about this? ^^;
Otherwise, I missed out on going with animemiz and crew to Mitsuwa, but we'll see each other soon enough. I'm hoping to meet P-chan and Pearl-chan this friday since it's my day off. Yay! Now, I must catch up on sleep....

new FMA anime? *faints*
I came back on to post about a confirmed rumor. Almost two months ago, rumor leaked that Bones will be doing a new FMA series...but they denied it. But then they're confirming it now that it's in the works. Yay! My FMA fangirl is dancing inside...only inside since my tummy is still superfull from dinner and I can't really dance around the room. ^.^ Not really a sequel, but more of a 'return to the manga storyline' which is fine by me. I don't care either way since I'm a type of fan that embraces all storylines and AUs. (Yes, all the incarnations of MKR made sense to me. ^.^) FMA with it's fill of manga, anime, OVAs, specials all fit together beautifully in my head. Another anime with a different storyline (albiet the manga one) is wonderful. I guess I'll see some strange Hohenheim of Light the 2nd...aka. 'Father' in action. (Semi-spoiler but manga fans should already know what I'm referring to.)

all over St. Marks
Tonight, we went to through several restaurants at St. Marks, trying to find one that could fit 10 ppl at a table. (Didn't I do this before...several weeks ago for animemiz's b-day? ^^;) It wasn't that hard and at the third restaurant, we settled ourselves in. Je'Ban was spacious enough and had contempo styled Japanese food. I managed to finish my bowl of curry ramen (with very very light curry) and ate some of my friend's curry udon. They had some interesting smoothies which were really slushies in large martini glasses. I had a green tea icy topped with red bean which was light and yummy. My fav is the b-day boy's 'Tropical Paradise' with manga icy topped with jelly. Oishi! Another fav is the a almond/chocolate/nutty icy. Besides my curry, I had a spicy tuna roll which was just as delicious as the yakitori skewers.
BTW, their specialty is a fish noodle soup bowl that is named after the restaurant.

the beauty of 'Moon Child'
After my appt., I stopped by Strandbooks and bought a manga for myself and 3 for Pearl-chan (with her approval of course!) I picked up Moon Child vol. 11 by Shimizu Reiko-sensei. I'm missing book 9 and 10 as well as the 12 and 13...but the last two will be released in September and December respectively. Yay for fast releases! *props to CMX* Reading a bit of vol. 11, I'm drawn back in that world again...of mistrust, sadness, betrayal and faint hopes. I didn't read too much since I want to properly read it once I get the rest of the books. Also, I already know what happens thx to my Chinese scanlations. ^^; It's such an awesome series...but a sad one.
On another note, I picked up Hero Heel vol. 2 by Tateno Makoto-sensei, Blue Sky by Kuwabara Yuko-sensei and Wanted by Matsuri Hino-sensei for Pearl-chan. I love Strandbooks...everything so cheap.... ^.^
food...food...and more food!
Going out to eat with co-workers tomorrow night and with Jenn-chan on thursday night. Jenn-chan is craving Korean and I would love to eat tofu soup again. *drools in memory* For now, my evenings are filled with sorting pics....

I don't have much to say about this weekend except for the fact that it was fun and I had really yummy food. Bacon for breakfast and sweet potato fries fro lunch! Oishi! Turns out the CCF retreat will be held at the same place...and I'm not going since it's the same week as NYAF. >.< I'm very sad about not being able to go since I missed GC as well due to AnimeNEXT. My one and only trip with CCF is this current retreat and I told them I was going to be at Otakon last week that they didn't place this retreat last week. ^^;
In either case, it was a very enjoyable weekend. I wish it was longer since these things are usually friday to monday. I'm continuing to get through pictures and hope to get the gallery by this friday. Let's see how this estimation works. ^^;

busy yesterday, busy today
When in the world have I not been busy lately? ^^; Between working and appointments yesterday, I stopped to pick up my developed film. Turns out, it was from someone's bridal shower and wedding rehearsal. The person who got married is pregnant now. That's how long ago it was.... ^^; I'm going to meet her today so I will give her these pictures/film/cd. (The results of the pic was actually pretty good...I was worried that it might come out faded since it was so long ago.)
I stopped by Forbidden Planet yesterday to see if they have a new copy of an artbook by Amano Yoshitaka-san. They only had the instore copies (that I have seen every time I went) which was ripped up on the outside. <.< The sales person at the front desk told me that they'll get a shipment tomorrow and told me to come back tomorrow and that I'll get a Dark Horse 20 years anniversary poster with the book. I told him that I'm going to be away (since I'm leaving for a retreat in a few hours ^^;) so I couldn't come back until later on. I was about to leave when the salesperson handed me the poster anyway and told me to come back and buy the book. O.O Sugoi! It was wrapped up in plastic and cardboard so it was safe from the thunderstorm yesterday. ^.^ (Right now, the poster is up on my living room wall.)
away this weekend
This afternoon, I'm going to be going on a retreat to...I have no idea where. No worries, I'm not the one driving so there really isn't a need for me to know where we're going. ^^; I'm going to see larkspur and 140 who I haven't seen in a loooooong time. Yay! Still so much to do....

It's been over two weeks and no word from Aeon. I am contemplating calling them tomorrow to confirm, but it's definite that I didn't pass the application process to the interview process. a break before a long night
Animemiz went to buy a JAM Project album for me so I have something for them to autograph on sunday. Yay! After work, (as previously mentioned) I went to eat with my co-workers. It was fun as usual and then I met up with okaasan and we drove home. Then came everything else....
After AnimeNEXT, I decided to do Tomoyo-hime version 3...which meant that I had to remake the entire dress. It took about the same time as before and at the same time, I sealed up the Moon Bell before painting it again which yield awesome results. Last night, I finished the cosplay by sewing on 3 sets of buttons and anchoring my purple top to my white top.
As usual, I'm not sleeping because I needed to finish everything else...and although packing is almost done, I still have several things I need to do before I go hopping to Otakon....
1. Create summaries for yaoi archive (after con)
2. Do one more manga review (in a moment)
3. Pack (almost done)
4. Vacuum (when it's actually morning)
When I'm at the con...
Since I'll be at the Sheraton, I won't have free internet access in the room. (If I do, then it'll be an awesome surprise.) So no updates after I leave. ^^; My pre-con prep is the usual:
1. Iron all my cosplays
2. Pick up my pre-reg ticket
3. Meet animemiz to pick up my JAM Project album
4. Go over schedule
5. Prepare stuff for next day
6. Wash hair
7. Eat dinner

I received my Loveless cards in the mail on wednesday! *dances around the room* The regular 1-63 set is so pretty and there are some pictures I haven't seen before. Sugoi! what I did today or not really
I managed to get through an excruciating, painful morning (literally since my tummy decided to start do aerobics without my permission,) at court. I went back to the office for a good 10 minutes to drop off documents and let my supervisor know that I'm heading out early since I completely forgot about a doctor's appt that I made for today 3 months ago. (It's another check up from an extensive examination so no worries. ^.^ *hugs to concerned ppl*) After the examination (which I practically fell asleep at and the doctor even noted that ^^;) I found myself in Flushing with 2.5 hours to kill while okaasan finished her weekly rounds of doctor appt. I headed to Manhattan where I dropped by Book Off to look for a JAM Project single and then to Borders to pick up a book for Pearl-chan. Both stops proved fruitless and I went back to Flushing empty handed. Oh well, at least I had a good walk. ^.^
con stuff and not con stuff
Otakon posted their schedule up. Yay! President of Pierrot Yuji Nunokawa-san will be at Kinokuniya on saturday...when I'm at Otakon. Aiya.... <.<; Guess this is good for ppl not going to the con...801megane perhaps? Studio Pierrot are the ones who have popular Shonen Jump titles like Bleach, Naruto and Yu Yu Hakusho. a different kind of fantasy
My friend, falmitht mentioned something that is totally true...this volume breaks several conventions of the fantasy genre. The author herself even said so in retrospect. There is no main bad guy in the story and no quest that pushes the story along. But the way the plot developes is fantastic in itself.
This reflection of 'The Mirador' by Sarah Monette will not have any spoilers since I don't like spoilers and divulging details will only be a pain since they won't make any sense to those that didn't read the book. ^^; Different from the previous books, there are three character POVs rather then two. The third is the girlfriend who I declared my hatred for...but slowly liked anyway. Actually, the characters that Monette expanded on, I seemed to like. The most obvious change from book one was my opinion of Shannon, the first lover mentioned of the main character wizard. I guess it's because this story didn't make him out to be as arrogant as the previous volumes.
Storywise, this has got to be the most confusing out of the three. Plotlines, subplots that span all the way from volume one was brought back and tied up nicely. But the way it was done involved the three characters going on their merry way...separately. Trying to follow three different storylines and tying them together somehow is confusing as hell. This calls for second and third reads (even though I'm going to do it regardless since this book is just that awesome) in order to make any sense of what happens.
Unfortunately, the relationship between the two main brothers of the story don't develope much in this story...and I'm not referring to the malexmale aspect...though that was non-existent (between them anyway.) BTW, the malexmale scenes were hot and the malexfemale scene was 'glossed over' as another review has mentioned. Strange, I don't think it's because Monette didn't like malexfemale scenes since she wrote some nice ones in both book 1 and 2. ^.^ Concerning the two brothers, their awkward relationship is barely addressed in this book but I think it's to set the stage for book 4 which is set in a total different setting with only the two brothers again on another journey.
Book 4 'Corambis' is slated to be out in April 2009 which leaves me in tears since the paperback will probably not be out until the end of 2009. *cries* Overall, I loved book 3 (book 2 still my fav) and am looking foward to book 4 which Monette has declared to be the ending to the series. Can't wait!

Kamui ~ Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
Process: 100%
Length of time: 18 hrs.
Cost: $46
Cosplay attire: black pants, black turtleneck, black shoes or boots, black socks, silver pendant necklace
Prep needed: hair needed to be pulled up on head before wig can be placed on, binding chest
Materials that I have: red leathery fabric, deep red fabric, 1 belt buckle, brown, tan, black and white cloth
Materials needed: 3 small rectangular belt buckles, short black wig
Hardest part: Cutting up the design for the cape. It's very difficult to create it by hand so I photoshoped copy/paste it from a pic, printed it out and traced it on to Heat 'n Bond. Still, the dimensions isn't accurate and ironing it onto the cape also presented problems. The overall look is good, but accuracy was lost along the way. I may create this cape again if I meant to cosplay him more then once.
Easiest part: Getting the black turtleneck, shoes, pants and socks. I didn't even need to buy it since I have these clothes in abundance.
Most favorite part: The cape. I have a hood and any outfit with hoods I love. ^.^
I spent most of today figuring out how to make a hood without too much cutting and sewing. I only succeeded half way but it looks pretty good as is. I sewed on the two buckles and Heat n' Bond the two strips for the buckles. While putting on the design for the cape, I discovered that the symbol is bit too much to the right. Oh well...as mentioned in my cosplay info, if I ever want to redo any part of the costume, it'll be making a new cape. (As mentioned before, I may also need to make a new 'thigh wrap'.)
other stuff
I finished reading 'The Mirador' but am too tired to give a good reflection on the book. But I loved it. Also made some progress with Tomoyo-hime version 3 but info would have to come later when I'm more awake.
My to-do list...including con prep:
1. Complete Tomoyo-hime cosplay
2. Create summaries for yaoi archive
3. Do two manga reviews
4. Buy new camera
5. Confirm hotel reservation
6. Pack
7. Pick out schedule
8. Buy pocky for guests
9. Go over pics for autographs
10. Vaccum
11. Have eyebrows and face done ^^;
12. Write a reflection of 'The Mirador'
13. Take pics of Japanime collection

more cleaning and sewing
At the end of my day off, I productively cleaned out some unncessary stuff that was in my closest...clearing a tiny bit of space. ^^; Oh well...at least it's something. I also did the laundry and washed the bathroom. ^^V Vaccuming will be next week once I'm done sewing. Pieces of thread and cloth are everywhere, so all major dusting will happen next week.
I'm still working on my two major cosplays, Kamui and Tomoyo-hime. Don't even have time for real updates so all info will wait until I'm done. ^^; I'm also 'sealing' my moon bell up with a mixture of glue and water before I paint it again. Hopefully, the results will be alot better.
need to read more!
I'm currently reading 'The Mirador' and am liking the girlfriend character more then I initially would have thought (since my pre-reading impression was 'I'm going to hate her no matter what'. ^^;) I also received my two manga for reviewing which I will be doing once I finish 'The Mirador'. So busy with books and cosplay! *runs around the room*
