Edmonton 2001 |
Finally, about almost a year later, I have pictures from my spring trip to Edmonton, Alberta. If you don't remember what I did last May, then visit Edmonton, Alberta--Capital of Wild Rose Country to refresh your memory.

Welcome to Stony
Plain. This is a small town of about 3,000 people about 15 minutes
west of Edmonton. I spent a few years of life in this town. The town
is now famous for murals like the one on the side of this supermarket.
The sign on the left is written in English and two First Nations (i.e. Native) languages that I'm not familiar with. I think one of them might be Cree. |

This is a grain elevator
in a town called Spruce Grove just beside Stony Plain. Grain
elevators like this one used to be common across the Canadian
Prairies. They were used to store grain from the harvest.
Trains would stop beside these structures and grain would be emptied into
the train containers. The train likely transported the grain to
bigger city centres like Edmonton.
Grain elevators like these are no longer used. So many are being torn down. Some towns are saving their grain elevators as historical heritage sites. |
