2005 Races & Activities
Machestic's Fourth Annual Holiday Party – Dec 13
hosted by Marianne and StanRiverfront Dragon Boat Festival – Hartford, CT – September 17
Not enough for a full crew, our gals got spots with other crews. Terry, Midge and Lori raced with the Boston Dragons. Placed 10th overall out of 42 teams which placed us in the B division. The first 8 teams made the A division, and so on. The B division finals were close. We entered the final stretch in 2nd place by a third of a boat and were gaining quickly 'you could literally see our boat surging forward with every stroke,' but the race ended with us still trailing by a foot or two. But we brought home a silver medal for placing 2nd. Our time was something like 2 min and 18 seconds for 500 meters. We had a blast! The Boston Dragons ware such a great team! Carol, Pam, Sharon found their time with the Harvard Dudley College crew youthfully invigorating!
First International Dragon Boat Festival, World Corporate & Community (CorCom) Championship Races – Berlin, Germany – July 30
Terry, Baru and Midge hooked up with BCS paddlers from USA and Australia and raced together as "Australia Abreast" in Berlin, Germany. They raced on the same race renue where the 1936 Olympics was held. Raced 6 races with only 16 paddlers but did GREAT! Receiving two silver plate trophies, one for coming in 2nd place overall and the other for 1st place in the BCS division.
Windsor, Ontario Dragon Boat Festival – July 16
Several members managed to survive the car ride together and attend this wonderfully supportive BCS event. Held on the Canadian side of Detroit, we enjoyed a few BCS only races before the rains came – but we went home with new experiences and great fitting French Jeans!!!
Parsippany, NJ – June 4
A typically large crew turnout, it was a great day. |
