Once
at the top of the hill we pass the backyards of houses on
our right, with the river valley below on our left, and
after a while begin descending again to the level of the
river and the Riverview Tea Gardens site. In their heyday,
the Tea Gardens were a major drawcard with revellers
travelling up the river for dining and dancing. However,
it was closed in 1947 and now little remains except the
picturesque riverside setting with exotic trees and an
attractive wall.
The
path from here to the Canning Reserve, which is not far
away now, is quite delightful, especially on a sunny day
when the river sparkles and the sun shines through the
trees, creating dappled shade on the sandy gravel track.
Seats
scattered along the river bank provide an ideal place to
stop for a while and take in the pleasant surroundings.
