However, in a short
distance we reach Pipemakers Park (see links page), a former industrial
site now converted to parkland, but with some of the
historic industrial remains preserved. |
There are parking
and picnic facilities here, and the Living Museum
of the West (see links page). Birds frequenting
this
picnic area include Willie Wagtails, Wattle Birds
and Red-Rumped Parrots. |
Herons and Cormorants are around
too, and are particularly fond of perching on the boat
landing / fishing platform here. |

On a little further we
come across a pleasant little shelter with seats,
commemorating Irish women pioneers of the Maribyrnong. |
The stories
of these women have been told in a book by Joan Carstairs
and Maureen Lane, called "Pubs, Punts and
Pastures - The Story of Pioneer Irish Women on the Salt
Water River". The Maribyrnong was known as the
Salt Water River in the early days of European
settlement. |
