We retrace our steps until we get
to the former Riverview Tea Gardens site. Here, the track branches
in two - up the hill to Avondale Heights, or along the
river bank. This time we'll take the river bank track. |
Before
long, it's hard to believe you're in the middle of
metropolitan Melbourne, only 11 kilometres (as the crow
flies) from the city centre. |
 |
The high river bank on your
left, and a thick cover of trees on the opposite river
bank screen the urban surroundings from view, and for a
while it's just you, the river, and the birds. |
 |
As
we approach the confluence of Steele Creek and the
Maribyrnong, the path turns away from the belt of scrub
along the river and heads back into the open grasslands,
as there is no bridge over Steele Creek at this point. |
