The Art of Round House Kicks

The Round House Kick: The Round House kicks are one of the most powerful kicks you can do, but a high skill level is needed to bring off a perfect kick. From the pictures below you can follow the moves for this kick. You can see how he moves from his stance and guard position, dropping his right hand but still ensuring that his body is still protected in the event of a counter attack. As his right leg comes up you can see how he has changed his body weight from right to left giving him more power as his left foot turns 90 to 180 degrees. Then you can see him turn his hips driving his foot into the bag. As he has landed his kick, you can see by the way his foot hits the bag, it gives him maximum reach from the top of his shin to the bottom of his foot and he's protected his toes at all times from being damaged. You will soon understand this as you start to do high and low kicks by the way your foot hits the face or your shin into the legs. One tip I can give you is to think of your kick going up slightly and driving downwards into the body, legs or head. The more you turn your foot the more power you will gain. Now try the right kick off the lead and rear foot then do the same with the left leg.

You will soon find it easier to punch and kick as you spend more time working on the bag in the gym or Thai pads at your martial art club. Within a few weeks you will be able to do few combines like: The jab, cross and hook finishing off with a high or low round house kick.
