Neil L. died suddenly in
Sept., 1916. Both were laid to rest in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield,
Illinois.
His wife Katherine and
Gertrude live in Divernon, where they have an active part in the welfare
of the community.
Alexander McTaggart
married Jeannette Carswell, September, 1859. They lived on a farm near
Pawnee. Six children were in this family: Neil L., Jane and Margaret Rankin
(who died in 1867 at an early age), Alice Jeannette, Amanda, and John.
Alice Jeannette married
A. B. Miller of Virden, Illinois, and lived near Virden for some time,
then moved to the old McTaggart homestead near Pawnee, Illinois. They now
live in Pawnee. They had five children: Everett, who died at the age of
twenty six years, November 9, 1917. Lauretta, who died in infancy.
Evelyn who graduated from
Alabama State Normal, from Chicago Law School, taught school for a number
of years, is now the wife of Chauncey Owenby, a native of South Carolina.
They live in Chicago.
Loyd, who graduated from
Pawnee Township High School. Now resides in Springfield, Illinois, with
his wife, formerly Inez Starkweather. He is a baker by trade.
Lorene who also graduated
from Pawnee Township High School, resides at home, has taught school in
Kincaid and Bement, Illinois. She is now the wife of Ralph Hayes and they
reside in Flora, Illinois.
Amanda McTaggart
married James W. McElvaine of Auburn, son of a pioneer family of that community.
They lived at the McElvaine homestead till a few years ago they moved to
Chicago where he had interest in the coal industry. Later they moved to Evanston.
Their children: William of Evanston. Thornton of Evanston. Ralph, who married
Edith Schereretz. They have one girl, Jacqueline, and live in Evanston
where he superintends his father's mine interests.
Carl who married Ruth Plowman
of Auburn lives in Chicago. They have two boys, Carl Roswell, Jr., and
James Edward.
Mabel, who is a graduate
of Northwestern University, at Evanston.
Ruth, at home, attends
High School in Evanston.
John McTaggart, who lived
with his sisters for some time, now lives at Jacksonville, Illinois.
Duncan McTaggart
married Mary Carswell, living on a farm near Springfield. Later they
moved to a farm south of Pawnee near Springfield. He died in March
1890. There were seven children in this family:
Neil, who married Juliette
Lochridge of Pawnee, lived in the Weaning House on the home farm
for some time. Later he bought land near Pawnee, then sold and bought a
farm four miles south of Pawnee.
