Thomas Carswell was born in Kerry, Ayrshire, Scotland and married Margaret Clark, born in Kilbride parish, Ayrshire, Scotland. Their children were: Robert, Thomas, Jane, Andrew, Janet, James.
Second Generation
Robert Carswell married Margaret Hunter, a sister of Jane Hunter, and lived on East Calmac farm, Bute. Their children were: Thomas, Hugh (died in infancy), and Margaret.
Thomas Carswell married Jane Hunter and lived on Edinberg farm, Bute. Their children were: Margaret, Mary, Jeanette, Thomas, Jane, Rebecca, Marian.
Andrew Carswell married Janet Scott. Their children were: Thomas, Janet, Margaret, Alex and Matthew (died in infancy).
James Carswell married twice, his first wife's name being Johnson. His children were: Thomas, Hugh, James, John, Andrew, Jane. He lived in Rothesay.
Third Generation
Thomas Carswell married Margaret McFic and Iived on East Calmac farm, Bute. He had some children.
Margaret Carswell married first, a McFarland and lived on Barefield farm, Bute; second, Duncan Halliday and lived in Port Bannatyne, Bute. She had some children.
Margaret Carswell married John Gardner and lived in Glasgow and Falkirk, Scotland. Their children were: Andrew, Agnes, Thomas, and Robert.
Mary Carswell married Duncan McTaggart and lived near Pawnee, Illinois. Their children are listed in the McTaggart lineage.
Jeanette Carswell married Alexander McTaggart and lived near Pawnee, Illinois. Their children are listed in the McTaggart lineage.
Thomas Carswell married Caroline Fox Payne. Their children are Braden, Albert, William and Anna (died in infancy). Caroline Fox first married Elija Whitecraft and their children were Amanda and Jane. Jane married Tom Sheplierd, a cousin of Tom Shepherd of Pawnee. Caroline's second husband was Ed Payne and their children were Allie and Charles. Allie Payne married Jacob M. Lemen and their children are: Glen, Charles and Myron. Charles Payne married Lillian Crowl and their children are: Stella and Lester.
Rebecca Carswell married James Lyons and lives on Drumachloy farm, Bute. Their children are: Rebecca (died in infancy), Alexander, Julia, Jane and George.
Marian Carswell married Alexander Montgomery, and lived in Owaneco, Illinois, and Smith Center, Kansas. Their children are: Alexander Thomas and Robert William (died in infancy), Bessie and Royal John.
