Mary Antoinette McTaggart
at home. She was the home maker for her father for many years.
Uncle Alex died April 15,
1874. Aunt Jeannette rented the farm moving to Springfield, but three years
later moved back to the farm where she lived till her death in May 1889.
She was laid to rest in the family lot where Grandpa and Grandma McTaggart
are buried.

HISTORY
In 1854 Mr. and Mrs. McTaggart
and two sons, Alex and Robert came to United States, coming to Springfield
to Uncle Daniel's. They located in Woodside township where they resided
for twelve years purchasing a two hundred and forty acre farm at twenty dollars
per acre. On selling that they removed to Pawnee township and became the
owners of nearly one thousand acres of land on which they located.
With characteristic energy
Mr. McTaggart began to develop his farm and with the assistance of his sons
made excellent improvements on that property till his death which occurred
January 9, 1880. His wife passed away a number of years before. All three
sons grew to mature years and had families of their own and became prominent
farmers of Pawnee Township.
HUNTER LINEAGE
Alexander Hunter, brother
of Rebecca Montgomery, came to South Calinac farm, Bute, early in the nineteenth
century. He was married first to Mary Stuart and second to Margaret Simpson.
His children by the first marriage were Jane: Jane married Thomas
Carswell and lived on Edinberg Bute. Their children are listed under the
Carswell lineage.
Margaret Hunter
married Robert Carswell, brother of Thomas, and lived on East Calinac farm,
Bute. Their children are listed under the Carswell lineage.
Hugh Hunter
married and lived in Ayrshire, later moving to New South Wales, Australia.
Robert Hunter married
a McCorkindale and lived in Rothesay. There
were two daughters and one
son. He owned the mill.
William Hunter married
first Margaret Currie, second a Martin and lived on Upper Ettrick farm, Bute.
His only child by the first marriage, a daughter, Margaret, married Charles
Duncan and lived on Scoulag farm, Bute. The children by the second marriage:
the son, William, married and lived on Upper Ettrick farm, Bute. The daughter,
Elizabeth, married John McFei and lived in Port Bannatyne, Bute.
The children of Alexander
Hunter by the second marriage: Alexander remained a bachelor and
lived on Lubas farm, Bute. James married and lived on Shalunt farm,
Bute. There were three or four children.
