After several years he again moved to Pawnee. There were two children born
to them: Lela, who is the wife of John Langham and lives in Bloomington,
Illinois. They have one son, John Neil, who finished high school this year
and who gives bright hopes for a brilliant career. George Duncan, who married
Bessie Christopher of Auburn, who lived on the farm for a time but now lives
in Auburn. They have three children: Eloise, Wendell and George Don.
Neil died in August
1923 after a long period of illness, which he bore with the same patience
and fortitude that had always been one of the outstanding virtues of his
whole life. He was buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery. His wife Nettie lives with
her daughter in Bloomington, Illinois.
Thomas Alexander was born
at the old home. After finishing grade school work he attended Wesleyan
University at Bloomington, Illinois, graduated from there and entered Rush
Medical College, Chicago, Illinois, graduating from there a full fledged
M. D. in 1884, He.began the practice of medicine in Pawnee, Illinois, in
which place he still resides. He served on the Exemption board during the
World War. He married Josephine Newcomer, June 22, 1887, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. D. Newcorner. They have one foster son, Elmer Triplett McTaggart,
who farms the doctor's land south of Pawnee, Illinois, and resides in Pawnee.
He married Hazel Herriot, a, teacher in the schools here, at one time. They
have one girl, Mary Josephine.
Margaret married Charles
E. Lochridge of Auburn, whose family was one of the foremost in the community
in their day. They lived near Auburn for a number of years. They moved to
Amarilla, Texas, later coming back to Auburn, living on the old Lochridge
homestead. She died at her home near Auburn. There were seven children,
one dying in infancy:
Frank E., who chose the
ministry as his life work, is now located at Danville, Illinois. He married
Esther Gregg of New Mexico where he was for some years, later coming to
Illinois Conference. They have two children, John Milton and Frank, Jr.
Mae married Hayden Humphries
of Amarilla, Texas, where they resided for some time. They now live in Danville,
Illinois.
Fred married Lelia Sechler
of Auburn, and lives near Amarilia, Texas, where he has a dairy farm. They
have two children: James Fredrick and Margaret Lee.
Bernice married Bruce Collins
and lives in Amarilla, Texas. They have one boy.
John Milton married Edith
Hamilton of Auburn. They now reside in Springfield, Illinois.
Helen Lochridge taught
school in Virden and Danville, Illinois, and is now in Danville, Illinois.
Mary Jane became the wife
of Byron Barbee of Auburn. They lived in Pawnee, where he taught school
for some years, later moving to Auburn and acquiring an interest in the
mill and elevator there, where they have since resided. There were five children
in this family:
