In the classroom we'll be using MGI Photosuite Ver 8.0 as the graphics program for handling / editing the .bitmap files we make/save when we scan our pictures. It an excellent graphics program for classroom and home use.

There are many graphics programs out in the market, like Photoshop, which you can use to manage, handle, process and convert your graphic images.  Some of these run in the $550 - $800 range.
However, there is a shareware program called
Graphics Workshop Professional which you can download over the Internet and install and try it on your computer. It was designed for Windows '95-'98-NT. You can try it out for 30-60 days evaluating it for free.  If you like it and would like to continue to use it, the authors would like you to register it for $40.00.  For my money … it does EVERYTHING a home user can ever hope to do with a graphics program. If you're on the Internet, you can check it out and download it at this URL. http://www.mindworkshop.com/alchemy/gwspro.html

And if you're "into" making and processing your own animated .GIF files for Web pages, you might be interested in checking out their shareware Animated Gif Construction Set.  You'll find it on the Web by browsing this page: http://www.mindworkshop.com/alchemy/alchemy.html

There are some FREEWARE Graphics Programs you may want to try.
Mr. Alex on the Earthlink Internet Hour highly recommends
Irfanview 32 Irfanview 32 is provided as freeware for private, non-commercial use.  It Features:
Thumbnails, Preview, Drag & Drop Support, fast Directory View (fast moving through directory), Print Support, Scan (TWAIN) Support, Slideshow, Batch conversion, change the color depth, audio CD player, Capturing, Cut/Crop, Effects (Blur, Sharpen etc.) and many many more ... Only one EXE-File, no DLLs, no Shareware messages. Review and download the Irfanview Graphics Program here: Click here

Square Image is a freeware application for easily reducing/cropping/padding an image to a (square) target size. The simple visual one-screen interface provides an intuitive (even fun) image editing experience. It is particularly useful for processing and editing digital images and photos. A Square Image is ideal for creating textures for use in Web 3D applications like VRML, which work best with 128x128 or 256x256 images. It's also pretty handy for making 32x32 BMPs for things like icons. You can download it here: Click Here

HTML Imager Ver 1.2a is a another small freeware application. It's a beauty!
It allows you to quickly look at all the .GIF and .JPG files in any folder you're working in. You'll like it for previewing all those .JPG photos you've taken with your digital cameras. It's also very useful for quickly reviewing, processing and editing all those digital images you've downloaded from the Internet and seeing the "animation" in all your Animated .GIF files. You'll be able to view both the background color and the animation in a Web page. It's three clicks . . . and you've made a very quick web page for viewing your graphics. Album Express Ver 2.6 is a great Windows tool for creating slick, professional-looking picture albums for home, friends and the Web. It's wizard-like interface and customizable templates make it easy to present your pictures in style: you can produce a Slideshow, create an "Index", make a Catalog your your pictures, and build a fully searchable image database --- all with a few clicks of your mouse. It's a shareware program. That means you can try the full program for 30 days, and if you like it, you'll only pay $19.95 for it. It's a sweet program!
It does everything "HTML Imager 1.2" does ... and a whole lot more! The program allows you to quickly look at all the .GIF and .JPG files in any folder you're working in. You'll like it for previewing all those .JPG photos you take with your digital camera. It's very useful. For more information and to download it,
