Tractor Images
As of this moment, I have the following antique farm tractors: 3
Farmall Cubs, a Farmall Cub Lo-Boy, a Farmall Super M, a Farmall H, a
Farmall
340, a Ford 860, Ford 2N, an International 240 utility, 1946 Ford 2N,
Case
430 CK, International 184, as well as a Ford 145 LGT lawn tractor, and
a little Cub Cadet 123.
In addition, I have an 1987 Ford F-350 diesel dump truck. The dump
truck
is a 6x6, and has full trailer towing and snow plowing setup. I have
numerous other powered equipment and a 7,000 lb double axle trailer to
haul stuff around.
Images of the tractors and
other equipment can be found at my Fotki image
album.
I purposely made the images
small to expedite downloading, so if
anyone should want a larger better image of any of the machines, please
contact me at <mikesloane@verizon.net>, and I
will Email
them as attachments.
Tractors I have now:
- 1946 Ford 2N
. I passed over this
tractor when it was first offered to me 10 years ago. This time the
price was better, but the condition had not improved. This tractor has
been my first complete restoration.
- 1948 Farmall Cub
with Howard Rotovator
and Howard 2 speed rear. This tractor is used for garden tilling in the
spring and with a 5' sickle bar mower to trim along ponds and the
roadside during the summer.
- 1955 Farmall Cub
with Fast Hitch. This
was my first farm tractor, and for many years I used it with a
4' Mott flail mower ("hammer knife"), but I sold the Fast Hitch and
mounted the Woods 42C mower that came with the 1952 Cub.. This and the
'64 Cub
have been converted to 12 volt operation.
- 1964 Farmall Cub
with IH C-3 60" rotary
mower. My son discovered this mower in the back of a barn where he was
working as a landscaper. I have done some work on it, but
nothing extensive, and it is one of my most dependable tractors.
- 1965 Farmall Cub Lo-Boy
with 60" Woods
rotary mower . This was my most recent Cub purchase before the F-30 and
H and replaces an Economy Jim Dandy that I used for many
years to mow my lawn. When it came to me, the front end was badly out
of
adjustment, and there were leaks at the rear engine seal and front
transmission
seals. After "splitting" the tractor, rebuilding the hydraulic system,
and other work, it does an acceptable job of mowing.
- 1957 Ford 860
. This
is my "workhorse" tractor - any time I need a machine to do something
tough, I crank up this tractor, and it just does whatever I ask. I use
it with a Woods 6' brush cutter, a Unicorn wood splitter, a 1 ton boom
crane, a platform
lift, and a 7' grader/snow blade. In the winter, I install a canvas
weather
cab for snow plowing. One of its most useful jobs is powering the Woods
RM306 6' finish mower.
- 1953 Farmall Super M
. I bought this
tractor originally to drive the 25 KW emergency generator for the
house, but since then I have added a 3-point hitch kit and hydraulics,
so that it will be able to do many of the same chores that I use the
Ford 860 for, without having to constantly change implements. In the
winter, I mount a large spreader and use it to put sand & salt
down
when the road ices up.
- Farmall 560 diesel.
This is my
"big" tractor and takes the place of the Farmall 706 that was just too
big for my needs. While the tractor is in mostly good mechanical shape,
I am slowly working on improving its general appearance with fresh
paint and an almost new grille.
- 1965 International 240 Utility
.
Purchased in March of 2000, I have spent over a year getting it up to
what I consider to be excellent mechanical condition and very good
appearance. It is a very handy machine and very easy to use.
- IH Cub Cadet 123
with 38" mower.
This little tractor came to me free, and was in pretty sorry shape. It
runs pretty well after a lot of engine work, and I use it for trimming
around the lawn in front of the house where the Cubs are too awkward.
- Case 430 Construction King
. The
430 CK was an accidental purchase - the owner was selling everything
and moving and offered it to me. I brought it home in August 2001 and
find that I like it.
- Ford 145 LGT
lawn tractor. I
purchased this little machine to replace the Economy Jim Dandy because
it is better suited to maneuvering around the bushes and trees around
the house. Also the hydraulic drive makes the job much easier. Although
the tractor is over 25 years old, I have found that parts are still
available.
- International 240 Utility
. I
bought the tractor in OK mechanical shape, but somewhat tired sheet
metal and instruments from years of neglect. It had a hydraulic system
but no hitch, so I bought the rusty remains of another 240 and hauled
it
home. Since then I have completely rebuilt the 3 point hitch from the
hulk
and mounted it on the "new" tractor, reworked the electrical system,
and
cleaned up much of the sheet metal, among other things.
- Farmall 340.
I purchased this
tractor and a Farmall 140 at the same time. Neither were in running
condition,
but the 340 was the nearest to being a good tractor. While missing some
sheet metal and other parts, I was able to spend the better part of a
summer putting the tractor back into very nice shape.
- International 184.
I was not
happy with the quality of the mowing of any of the older tractors,
especially the smaller ones used around the house and barn. This 184
became available, and I brought it home. It is mechanically excellent
and has done a fine job of mowing.
Some machines I used to have:
- 1972 Economy Jim Dandy
. This was my
first tractor. Although the company is no longer in business, they are
very strong machines and many are still in service. They use
Kohler one cylinder air cooled engines from 14 to 18 hp and could be
configured as lawn tractors (like mine) or for gardening, with full
3-point hitch,
lug tires, and hydraulic lift.
- Struck Magnatrac 4000
with backhoe
and loader. Because my property consists mainly of wetlands and lawns,
I wanted to have a machine that would take care of ditches and other
chores and not chew up the grass or sink into the "muck". Plus I liked
the idea of building a crawler from a kit. While it is not as heavy
duty a machine as a big crawler, it does a lot of jobs around the house
and is very dependable. I enjoyed building the kit - 9 big boxes
weighing a total of 3300 lbs! Recently, the gentleman who purchased the
F-30 came with his fancy welding equipment and welded grousers on to
the track pads - now it has excellent traction that was missing with
the smooth track pads. But after all the various digging jobs were
finished, I found that it was sitting idle for years at a time, so it
too was sold.
- 1942 Caterpillar 112 road grader
- I
obtained it for use in keeping the dirt road leveled and snow cleared
in winter. Unfortunately, I could not get the "pony" engine running
well enough to start the diesel engine, and I finally sold it to a
local farmer. He and his son worked on it for two straight days and
ended up getting it started and drove it home from here!
- 1936 Farmall F-30
. I purchased this
tractor and a Farmall H as a "package" in November, 1999. Of the
two, the F-30 is in far better shape, although of little use to me,
except
as a curiosity. I have sold the tractor to someone who is in the
process of restoring it to far better condition than I would ever have
done.
- 1952 Farmall Cub
with Woods 42" mower.
I bought this tractor from the widow of the gentleman who sold me the
Ford 145 LGT. Now that repairs have been completed, I have sold
it, along with a Fast Hitch assembly and all the farming implements
that
came with it.
- 1965 Farmall 706
. I bought the 706 in
1998 just for a "project". I knew that the engine needed work, but the
price was right and most of the big pieces seem to be there. During
1999, I took the engine apart and replaced the sleeves, pistons, and
bearings, alternator, water & oil pumps, etc.. I don't really
have
any special use for the tractor, but I have always wanted a 16 speed
machine with full hydraulics and 75 hp 6 cylinder engine. There are
images of my progress in the link. I purchased an IH 1701 loader and
have mounted it. This tractor was sold to raise a little cash
while I was out of work.
- Farmall 140.
This tractor has an
IH 1000 loader, as well as an IH C-3 5' finish mower. It had been
rolled
over many years ago, and there was considerable damage to the sheet
metal,
the mower, and other parts. I spent a fair amount of time and money on
it
during the summer of 2002 and got it in very good shape. But, without a
job
and not really needing the tractor, it was sold in the fall to a family
in
MA.
- 1944 Farmall H
. This tractor was
purchased along with a Farmall F-30 and was not running, and in fact,
the engine was seized as well as other minor problems. This machine was
to be my major "project" for 2000, but not much progress has been made
to date. I finally realized that I was no longer interested in the
machine, nor did I have any real use for it, so I sold it.
