LAST CALL LULLABY

I can always find the cash for one more bottle
Even if I have to dress in cast off clothes
And no matter where I am I'm near a barroom
Where I sit and drink until it=s time to close.
I buy my last drink when last call goes ringin thru the room
And when it's gone I stumble off alone
When I reach my rented bed I sleep just like a child
Cause "Last Call Lullaby" is my favorite song.
People ask me why they seldom see me smilin
But they don't know the things that brought me here
And if I tried to tell I know they wouldn't listen
So I shake my head and laugh into my beer.
Chorus.
I'm the sad one that you'll see in every barroom
Alone in some dark corner near the door
The face may change but it's the same old story
We're the lonely ones who just don't care no more.
Chorus.
THE LAST TIME

I took that cold and lonely walk again down 57th Street.
I had come 2,000 miles by car but now I used my feet.
I didn't want it this way, I wanted to be friends.
But you would never let it lay, and so it had to end.
This is the last time, -- I won't call you anymore.
This is the last time, -- I won't come knocking on your door.
Now you can tell your parents what you want for them to hear,
And I won't care, I'll be on the road and far away from here.
You wanted me to write the songs that lingered in my soul,
But things just always seemed so wrong when I'd come in from the cold.
So now I'm on the street again with nothing but my song.
And you may be right, that you do me good, by doing me so wrong.
This is the last time....
LEAVIN' YOU

Leavin you, leavin you, hardest thing I ever had to do.
Great God, honey babe, I'm leavin you.
Leavin you, leavin you, hardest thing I ever had to do.
Goodbye, honey babe, I'm leavin you.
I don't hurry, I take my time,
Headin out for the county line.
Goodbye, honey babe, I'm leavin you.
Left New York bout an hour ago.
Now I'm just half way to Mexico.
Great God, honey babe, I'm leavin you.
Chorus.
I watched the sunset, watched the dawn.
Turned to you, but you were gone.
Goodbye, honey babe, I'm leavin you.
Guess you were with your other man.
I don't like it but I understand.
Great God, honey babe, I'm leavin you.
Chorus.
I'm feelin kind of old and small,
But I've done everything I could to stall.
Goodbye, honey babe, I'm leavin you.
So I don't hurry, I take my time,
Headed out for the county line.
Great God, honey babe, I'm leavin you.
Chorus.
THE LOVIN' TIMES

I'd like to say that I'll return
but it's too soon, you know I'm just now leaving.
And you might leave yourself
or one or both of us be just too changed for saving.
We shared our love from time to time
but neither of us spoke the lie "forever."
There's no need for tears, let's laugh and sing
about the loving times we spent together.
Let's sing about the loving times before I move along.
Our yesterdays can live again if we put them in a song.
And I won't argue with you if it's right or if it's wrong.
It's a song to sing tomorrow when the loving times are gone.
Too often I have used the words
that bound me to somebody else unthinking.
And though I've meant them at the time
I've found that time can change things while we're blinking.
But you and I have never made a vow to break
and set our hearts to breaking.
But still I'll try to keep in touch,
its not a one way street that I am taking.
Let's sing about the loving times before I move along.
Our yesterdays can live again if we put them in a song.
And I won't argue with you if it's right or if it's wrong.
It's a song to sing tomorrow when the loving times are gone.
