Other great foreign card games I recommend you buy include:

Bohnanza - a fun trading game of bean farming, yes bean farming! I've worn out my deck playing this.

6 Takes - simple rules, great mental strategy. Plays quickly even with 10 players. I've worn out my deck playing this too.

Zirkus Flohcati - "Flea Circus." Sort of like Piggy Six, but with cards.

Looking for lots of games you can play with a regular deck of cards? Try John McLeod's website. He has a great page of invented card games, as well.

Here are some fun games I have found. The card games are all foreign imports from Germany. You can (and should) buy them for the most fun, but you can try them out using a regular deck of cards. Likewise the dice games are all unusual, but again they are fun to play and use regular 6-sided dice.

A Collection of Card Games

Everyone knows about traditional card games, like Poker, Hearts, etc. Here are some interesting card games that use a regular deck of cards, but in innovative ways. Try one of these games when you are tired of Crazy Eights and Solitaire.

Expedition
This game is a modified version of Reiner Knizia's game, Lost Cities. It's a two-player race to build the highest-scoring cards in each suit before the deck runs out. Try it out and if you like it, buy the Lost Cities game from the best (and cheapest) online game seller, Funagaingames.com.

Opposing Force
This game is another modified Reiner Knizia game. It is similar to Shotten-Totten and Battleline. Two players duke it out for 9 positions playing three-card hands. Win 5 or 3 in a row and you win the game. If you think it's better than War, buy the special 5-suite Shotten-Totten or Battleline games.

Big & Little
This game is heavily modified from David & Goliath. It is similar to Spades in that players try to win "tricks", but different in that you score based on the number of cards you win in each suite. The real version uses 5 suites and cards numbered 1 to 18. If you like it, buy it online.

An Assortment of Dice Games

Tired of Monopoly and Risk, but still want to roll some dice? Try these original games that just use dice. Some of these games seem simple, but involve strategic decisions that can effect the rest of the game. Or try my own creation, Themed Yahtzee.

Piggy Six
This is an age-old game that uses only 2 dice and a notepad to keep score. The rules are simple: each player races to score 100. But do you take your time or get greedy and maybe lose your score?

Category Dice Games
This quintet of dice games uses 2 to 4 random dice rolls to mark up squares on a score sheet. Fill the most rows to win. Some are meant for two-player head-to-head competition, while others are great in large groups. I didn't create any of them (although I would be proud to) and don't claim to own them. In Adobe Acrobat format.

Yahtzee Themes
This your traditional Yahtzee, but the categories reflect a theme. I have heard there once was a commercial version that related to "war": each side played an army that fought for victory over the battlefield. I don't know if that was just a rumor, but try my solid themes in Adobe Acrobat format: Movie Yahtzee, or Wall Street Yahtzee.

Play keeps us vital and alive. It gives us an enthusiasm for life that is irreplaceable. Without it, life just doesn't taste good.
