Here is the truth that you will never hear on evening news nor read about in most newspapers. That's because most journalists are biased to the left. Most of them aren't even aware they are biased, and ignore all evidence to the contrary.

Raising the minimum wage costs jobs.
And it hurts minorities and less educated people disproportionately more. At a higher minimum wage some positions are no longer cost effective and won't be filled. More people are willing to work instead of doing something else. More people looking for fewer jobs allows the employer to discriminate among potential candidates.
Evidence Shows Minimum Wage Hikes Increase Unemployment

Most minimum wages are supplemental.
Less than 3.5% of all workers make minimum wage. 40% live at home with their parents. Half live in families that make more than $25,000 per year. Almost 20% live in families making over $50,000. Less than 1% of all workers (mostly young or unskilled) earn minimum wage and live in poor families.
Some Surprising Facts About Minimum Wage Workers

Rent control diminishes quality affordable apartments. And it hurts minorities and poor people disproportionately more. When rent is capped at low prices, there is less incentive to rent out expensive units or keep them maintained. Fewer nice apartments will be built. People who would otherwise live with roommates or with their parents will seek their own place. With less supply of apartments but more potential renters, landlords can discriminate among potential candidates and allow apartments to become run down.

Workers lose with Social Security.
And it hurts minorities disproportionately more. The average worker born in 1959 gets only a 1.8% rate of return. High wage workers get even less at .03%. Since blacks have lower life expectancy than whites, and tend to start working earlier in life, they collect even less than do whites.

Rich people do pay most of the taxes.
And it doesn't take much to be considered rich. In 1996 the top 1% of taxpayers earning $229,230 or more paid 32.3% of all Federal income tax. The top 10% earned $74,981 or more and paid 63.4%. The bottom 50% earning less than $23,160 paid only 4.3%.

Most poor people don't stay poor.
According to a study by the Employment Policies Institute, half of families below the poverty line in 1997 were no longer in poverty in 1998. 30% of "low income" families were no longer low income the next year. Quite a lot of poor are young people just starting out. In a 10 year study from 1969-1978, only 2.6% stayed poor for 8 years or more.

The FDA kills thousands of people each year.
It now takes 6 years and $200 million to bring a drug to market. Some drugs save lives but are not worth the time and money to produce under this system. The hassle and delays have killed an estimated 200,000 people in the past 30 years.

Farm subsidies hurt farmers and consumers.
Direct subsidies to farmers cost taxpayers $26.2 billion in 1994 alone. Consumers pay $11.1 billion more each year in higher food prices. Over the past 30 years the world percentage of U.S. farm exports hasn't improved due to the subsidy red tape. But the government export promotion programs cost taxpayers $1 billion each year and hurt the rural economy. Farmers net income would be $877 million higher without the subsidies.

Effects Of Regulation On Ability To Compete

There was a time that ... honorable people could disagree honorably; now, any challenge to the campus sacred cows (feminism, affirmative action, and multiculturalism) is denounced as evil.
