One of my hobbies is playing role playing games. They're played by a group of people who gather together, typically around a table, and pretend to react to situations put to them by the game master. To add further dimension to the creativity, each player pretends to be someone else, a character, such as a accountant or a gigantic amphibious hulk from Alpha Centauri.

To keep things fair we use dice to generate a random element to compare with an attribute of the character to determine if an action has succeeded or failed. For example, Glug the Giant Toad-Man is much stronger than Dennis the Anemic Accountant. If we want to simulate this with dice, we might say that lifting a car is a difficulty of 10. For Glug to lift a car his player throws 4 dice and must beat a total of 10 or higher. Dennis's player must throw 10 or better with only 2 dice. Glug has a much better chance at lifting the car than Dennis does (but Dennis is probably much better at math).

I have created a little newspaper to go along with one of the best known fantasy settings, the Forgotten Realms. It called the Forgotten Realms Chronicle. It has in-character news stories that can be used as background material in other people's games.

I love the Ghostbusters RPG. I have created some add on rules that can help expand the games of anyone who still plays it. It includes crossover write-ups, rules for super powers, and more equipment. I call it Ghostbusters Universal.

I'm also working on several other RPG related ideas. Unfortunately, I always seem to have more ideas than time to work on them. I'll probably never finish any of these:

  • A level-based fantasy setting using Fudge rules, with a section on converting from D&D.
  • A vast space setting of humongous soft sci-fi proportions.
  • A 1930's campaign involving Nazis, a secret guardian society, and Evil From Other Dimensions.
