Recap 14 Continued...

When the party awoke, they knew that they had found the way to rescue Roedyn, but they didn’t want to risk leaving clues behind them, so they proceeded through the rest of the citadel as quickly as they could.  They found chambers filled with rats and dangerous traps.  After a particularly dangerous encounter with a huge rat, the party stumbled across the decaying carcass of Karakas.  He had been mauled to death, but most of his gear was still usable.  Taking his possessions, Elwyn re-equipped himself and they all headed back to the chamber with the gate to continue the hunt for Roedyn.

The plan was simple.  Plug the ears with wax, stand outside the doorway while Killian was inside the room opening the magical arch.  As soon as the arch was opened, run into the room as fast as possible.  If the madness took hold of your mind, just fall towards the direction of the door, and hopefully they would all make it. – But no plan goes quite that simply.

As Killian activated the arch, Elwyn began to stumble during his run, and finally fell to the ground.  Rykahsa picked up the struggling halfling and entered the archway with Elwyn’s feet kicking wildly.  As they entered the other side of the arch, they were confronted with the blinding light of day.  Unused to the sight of the sun for over a month, each of the members of the party were cringing with pain.  Killian, having seen the bright flash of the sun earlier that day, was able to adjust the quickest to the light and noticed a very frightened girl holding a staff protectively before her.  Her eyes were wide and seemed to be in shock of seeing them.

After a bit of explanation and introductions, they found that the girl was a native of a place she called Earth.  She explained that no one from her tribe had traveled more than forty miles from the villages, but she told them as much information as she knew of the area.  Rykasha explained to them that they were trying to find a man who had come here recently, but the girl didn’t know of any information.  She told them that there was a town called Williamsburg to the south, and she lead them there in the morning.

When they arrived in Williamsburg, they saw people wearing strange clothing, but they spoke the common language (with a heavy accent).  They wore strange hats, had decorative belts, and had a funny greeting called “ma’am”.  They proceeded into the Sherrif’s place to try to find out if he would know about Roedyn.  The sheriff said that he knew of him, but didn’t know where he was now.  He said that he had taken off with Jebediah a while back, but didn’t know where to reach him either.  The sheriff gave the party a warning about wearing weapons in public, and referred them to the Inn to get some sleep for the night.

Heading the Sheriff’s word, they ordered a strongbox sent to their rooms and the weapons were stored and locked inside.
