Recap 15 Continued...

Our heroes were unceremoniously dropped into separate cells by the deputies who then went off while the sheriff spoke to them to try to get a better idea of what was happening.  Elwyn and the Ranger filled the Sheriff in on what had transpired while the sheriff’s face grew more serious.  When the tale had completed, the sheriff looked out the window.  With a curse he rose from his chair and told them to stay where they were, that it was for their own protection, and quickly left the building.

Exactly what happened next is a little hard to say, but it was quite evident that a mob of angry citizens had gathered together in front of the jail.  Without being able to tell what they were saying to the Sheriff, it was pretty clear they wanted blood.  Our heroes were very nervous without their weapons or magical devices, but made no attempt to leave the cell.  After a couple hours had passed, Killian was roughly deposited in the jail cells.  His face had been bruised pretty heavily, but no major damage had been done.  He was unconscious, but had a very wide smile on his face.  Two more hours later, the crowd was dispersed and the Sheriff came back inside and locked the door behind him.  Tired from the events of the day, he leaned back in his chair, put his boots on the desk and dozed off while his deputies took watch.

----

When morning came, it was a rush for the chamber pot as Killian and Elwyn felt the fire created by the ill tasting drink that cleared their heads the previous day.  Straws were drawn, and Elwyn won.  Killian jumped up and down with a red face while Elwyn screamed as the vile red liquid left his body.  When the agony was finished, Killian took up the screaming until he also expelled the red liquid, cursing all the while in a language shared only by himself and Elwyn.

Rykasha awoke with a throbbing head and a spinning room, while Tai sat up, stretched, and began cleaning up her bed while humming to herself with no apparent adverse effects from the liquor.  Slowly the others awoke and began milling about impatiently waiting to see what was going to happen.  Sheriff Menet joined them shortly.  He walked inside the jail room, and pulled up a chair so that he would be facing all those that were in his jail cells.  He told them that he looked over the pencil sketch they had given him earlier and he recognized the man.  He didn’t go by the name of Roedyn, but by the name of “Skinny Roe”.  He also did have a missing ear, but the other one was rounded not pointy.  He told them that Roe had come into town, got liquered up and was thrown in jail.  Menet let him out the next day and he got liquered up again, but this time he got into a bar fight and pulled his magic sword on the crowd.  Three citizens died that day and a mob of men came looking for him at the jail.  Jeb was able to talk the crowd down, but Roe was forced to stay incarcerated for a month for his protection.  During that time Roe and Jeb got to know each other pretty well, and when it came time to leave, Jeb took Roe under his wing and took him out of town.  At the time they left, Roe was on his way to becoming a “Preacher” like Jeb.

The Sheriff then told them that even minor infractions of the law wouldn’t be accepted, and made an example of Alton carrying his mace in his pack.  He then told them that Jeb’s brother was staying at the saloon, and he might have more information.  He then left to take care of his other duties.

As soon as the Sheriff left the Jail, our heroes went to work on a plan to get out of town while still recovering their supplies and weapons.  They decided that because Rykasha and Tai would be noticed almost immediately, Killian, Alton and the Ranger would go out and gather information and supplies.  Killian headed over the saloon to talk to Jeb’s brother while the Ranger and Alton purchased supplies and gathered their strongbox of weapons, with the help of their armed escorts provided by Sheriff Menet.
Killian sat down with Jeb’s brother John Clay.  He and John played a few games of cards with John winning each time, or folding just in time so that he didn’t loose any money.  John told Killian that Jeb was heading to a town called LoBan, and to be careful as the town is known as a ruffian’s paradise.  He also told Killian a bit more about “Preachers”.  Preachers are a sort of vigilante justice known for quick results but many do not like the means they use to achieve those results.  John also cautioned Killain to hurry for Preachers rearely travel in pairs for very long.

When everyone had gathered again back at the jail, Killian recited what he had learned from John, and they went about procuring a wagon and some horses for the long journey.  It cost them a bit, but they were able to put together a good team of horses and a covered wagon with enough water to take them north-west to the town of LoBan
