Recap 16 continued...

The Deputies outside of the gate asked them of their purpose for entering LoBan, and gave them some warnings about being careful to not cast spells in public, and to make sure all weapons were secured in a strongbox.  The adventurers heeded the advice and entered the town.

Upon passing through the armed deputies outside, our heroes were bombarded with stable boys and girls who were nearly fighting each other for the money they would receive for stabling the horses.  Rykasha dealt with the forming mob of children by offering to pay each of them the same amount.  The surprised children accepted the offer, and the horses and wagon were entrusted to the care of a man named “Jack Hubert”.  After making sure that the horses were taken care of, the group of adventurers booked rooms in the Cool Oasis Saloon.  They began the day with purchasing some supplies at the local general store, and laying down some careful inquiries about the whereabouts of Roedyn.

Our heroes found out that Roedyn had left town a couple weeks back but where he went, or the exact day he left had not been uncovered.  During their search, they did discover that the mood of the townsfolk was pretty strange.  Some of them seem to be celebrating the arrival of the Sheriff and the cleanup of town, while others were more somber and looking at the aftermath with apprehension.  They also heard word of a Mage in town who sold some of the supplies that the adventurers were inquiring about.

Hoping to get some more information from the Mage than the townsfolk, they proceeded to his shop just behind the general store and the new Jail.  The shop was open to the public, but it appeared as if the man tending shop had not seen a customer in a while.  The approached the shop and began to purchase supplies and speak to him of the area.  The mage was very informative and told them much regarding the layout of the town and some information about the possibility of this town being the end of a secret tunnel leading to the northern town of Gelsmug.  Knowing that they were a little short on cash, Alton spoke to the mage about the possibility of buying his potion of cure light wounds.  After a brief sample of the product was performed, the mage agreed to purchase some of them and the possibility was mentioned of going “on the road” with the product.  The mage said that he would need to sleep on some of the information that was presented, and to come back to him in the morning.  The party agreed and the mage closed shop for the night.  The party then retired back to the rooms they had rented for the evening, and they proceeded to sleep in a nice quiet room high above the noisy saloon.

----------Cut Scene----------

Tyrrin Frost sat beside his companion Lillian on the wagon train headed for Amityville.  The pair had worked together for what seemed to be most of his young life, and he couldn’t imagine doing things any other way.  It was true that the pair detested each other most of the time, but when they had aligned goals, they brought out the best in each other’s skills.

They had been on the wagon train for a few weeks now, and while travel was slow, the scenery along the way made it quite worth it.  Tyrrin had never passed through the Elvin kingdom of Farseers before in his life.  It was always too expensive, and hardly worth the effort.  Bribes to pass through the guard gates were enormously high, and the guards patrolling the border made it near impossible to sneak through under the cover of night.  This time, however, Tyrrin was traveling first class.  Or as first class as possible considering that they were on a wagon train and not a carriage.

Two weeks back Tyrrin and Lillian had been approached by the nightmaster Smithik about a job.  Smithik had explained about a very influential client who needed a job to be done, but he wanted to find someone who had flair and could pull off a complicated job.  Smithik quickly recommended Tyrrin and his accomplice Lillian and they were tested to make sure that they could pull off the heist.  They both passed and were given a meeting with the man who called himself Devereau.

Devereau explained that there was a mage living in Amityville who had earned the appreciation of the King of Farseers.  For whatever his own reason, Devereau wanted the two assassins to go to Amityville, find the mage, and make sure that he saw Devereau’s signet ring just before his untimely demise.  To Lillian, he handed a package wrapped tightly in oilcloth.  The package was to be delivered per their instructions, and to Tyrrin he gave his signet ring.  The client then made sure that the two assassins were well paid and had unlimited resources for pulling off this hit.
