Temple of Hera
The ruins of Palaestra, a gymnastics school for boys and the Temple of Hera were the
first ancient buildings
to be featured on postage stamps. The temple of
Hera was the oldest temple at Olympia and one of the most venerable in all Greece. It was
originally a joint temple of Hera and Zeus until a separate temple was built for the
latter. The existing temple was probably built around 600 B.C. Looking at this Greek stamp
we get an idea of the temple and the configuration of the buildings and intricate
construction of the columns.
