It is utterly flummoxing the way the media is going ga-ga over Amitabh Bachchans 60th birthday. Reams of paper are wasted singing his paeans, so Big B has completed 60 years of existence on this planet, so whats the Big Deal man, get a life. He is right now plastered everywhere, his wife is releasing a book on him, they are going to Tirupati, his son is getting engaged, ooof...all the details are being given by the papers and the electronic media alike.
He might be a big actor, a superstar, but then is a he great
human? What the
Lets come down to Bollywood, what has he given back to the
industry, Nothing. Mr Bachchan knows how to take and not how to
return, which is the case with most of us, so why are we going crazy
over him. Let him lead his life and us ours.
The problem, so as to say, inherently lies with us, we are a
nation of hero worshipers, we need a Gandhi to lead us, a Tendulkar
to admire, a Bachchan to inspire, rotting worshipers, thats what we
are. Since we dont have our Batman and Supermans, we create them out
of real people (Incidentally, Mr Bachchan had a comic series
published over him, going by some crazy name like Supremo).
While we sing paeans to these venerable heroes, they mint
moolah like it is going out of fashion. For another instance, what
has Mr Sachin Tendulkar contributed to this nation, he drives a
Ferari (which he should in a month or so), he has opened a chain of
restaurants, earns over a 100 crore. And what did he do to the sport
that gave him all, Nothing again. We required a Steve Waugh to come
and open an hostel for Udayan.
So, Mr Tendulkar plays his 100th test, the nation goes crazy, Mr
Bachchan turns 60 and the nation is gung-ho. Wait! let sanity
prevail. They are great performers in their respective vocations,
they arent great human beings that we should plastering them into
our hearts. We have given so much to them, what have they given back
to us, should be a question in every ones mind.
Hence, Mr Bachchan hearty congratulations on your birthday, go to
hell for all I care. Ditto, Mr Tendulkar. And by the way, I turned
23 somedays back, not to late to wish me, I believe
