The arrivals lounge at the airport seems suffused with light as
the beautiful woman dressed in designer clothes appears, transfixing
the admiring men with her jaunty walk. Followed by onlookers' glances
she goes from airport to train station, finally arriving at her
home downtown.
"I'm home!" She drops her suitcase with a relieved thud.
No one replies as her twin sister Narumi, her father Jun'ichi and
her mother Ruriko wonder who she is. This is the Saotome's oldest
daughter, Honami, (Ryoko Yonekura) who has spent thousands of dollars
overseas on plastic surgery.
A storm of protest breaks out, but Honami pays no attention to the
criticism and talk of extravagance. She was the one who had suffered
from that face and decided upon this course of action.
Honami's childhood friend Ryohei Takeda (Haruhiko Kato) is dumbfounded
at her total transformation. She tells him he absolutely must not
reveal her secret and goes into town, plotting revenge for the past
and a new start for the future. Men call out to her and she is approached
by a man scouting out models. She has no hesitation about choosing
a new job. Her appearance has changed, but her audacity certainly
has not! When she sees a coin dropped and ignored by someone who
seems to be a flower shop employee, Honami automatically calls out
to him, "Don't be so careless with money!" This endearing
aspect of her personality certainly hasn't changed either. The "clerk's"
heart goes out to this vivid person who is more than just a pretty
face. This supposed clerk is actually Ryusui Fujishima (Kippei Shiina),
the heir to the Fujishima school of flower arranging and a national
following of 50,000 people. As the succession ceremony approachs
he is the center of his mother's attention. Of course there is no
way Honami could have known this....
Today Honami's target of revenge is bank employee Tadashi Yashima
(Shoji Tanihara). She uses her beauty as her weapon and successfully
manipulates him into inviting her out to dinner.
Yashima seems to have no idea of the transformed Honami's true identity.
On the contrary, he insults his girlfriend Eri, who is Honami's
friend, and keeps going on and on with past stories about Honami
herself. Unable to endure this Honami tells him to stuff it and
leaves the restaurant.
What she doesn't know is that Ryusui also happened to be eating
dinner at the restaurant with Aoi, the daughter of his guardian,
and witnessed the whole episode from start to finish.
Several days later Honami goes to a party to which she was invited
by her model friend Isaki Fujishima. Sparkling chandeler.... beautifully
dressed people... the envied world of celebrities: Honami is triumphant.
But she is astonished when Isaki tells her who the party is for
and why it is being held. There on the platform is the man she assumed
to be a clerk at the flower shop. It is the new master of the Fujishima
school of flower arranging - and Isaki's older brother. |
