Living with Gender Dysphoria
  Test results from the psychiatrist

Our society's values tend to classify people into groups, including one's gender. There are certain expected roles that men and women are meant to play in our society. It is easier to classify people as male or female, based on their physical sex, but much harder to measure the amount of masculinity and femininity that they feel in their mind. According to research, every individual has a percentage of both masculinity and femininity in their psyche, the ratio is about 9 to 1, ie. if a typical male is expected to be roughly 90% masculine and 10% feminine (+- 10% daily variance) and visa versa to be considered normal.

My psyche's gender porportion as determined by tests performed by my psychiatrist clearly showed that I was gender dysphoric (yes they do have test that can determine this). I estimate that my masculinity to feminity ratio is 6:4. I'm sure that others like me have a ratio beyond that of the accepted norm of 9:1. I will cover the type of tests performed by the psychiatrist in another section. Needless to say, I can now breathe easy and know why I have been feeling different all my life.

My need to appear feminine in order to feel feminine, comes and goes. Also the strength of this need varies from day to day. Some days I feel more comfortable as a girl and at other days I'm ok in boy mode. I suppose you could say that this condition causes a person to have a gender fluid personality.
