    Satoshi and Kasumi finally arrive in Nibi City, where the first gym leader resides.  Satoshi battles Takeshi, the young gym leader, and loses to his powerful rock-type pokemon.  Satoshi vows that he’ll defeat Takeshi despite his difficulties, and a mysterious man decides to show him how to power up Pikachu.  After training, Satoshi faces Takeshi again.  The recharged Pikachu makes quick work of Takeshi’s Ishitsubute, and is fighting Iwaku.  Pikachu's about to lose when a stray electric bolt causes a small fire, making the gym's sprinklers go off.  The water weakens the rock-type pokemon, and just as Pikachu's about to take advantage of the situation, Satoshi stops it.  Satoshi decides that if Pikachu had won because of the water, it would be an unfair victory.  Takeshi is impressed by the young boy and gives him the Grey Badge anyway, and then decides to join Satoshi on his quest.

    When I do episode comparisons, I watch the first half of the Japanese episode, then the first half of the dub, then the second half of the Japanese episode, and then the second half of the dub.  Well, I finished the first half of the Japanese episode, and was about to watch the dub when I noticed that I didn’t have the dub on tape!  Whoops.  So this comparison will have to wait.  Sorry!
