    Episode Stats:

Japanese Episode 55:  "Sodateya no Himitsu!" ("The Secret of Raising")
American Episode 53:  "The Breeding Center Secret"
Pokemon Dare Da?  Utsubot (Japanese), Psycuck (American)
Japanese Air Date:  August 6th, 1998
    American Air Date:  May 1999
Important Characters:  Yamato (Cassidy), Kosaburou (Butch)
    Important Places:

Toru is shooting some pictures of Satoshi-tachi when an advertisement for a Pokemon Breeding Center comes on a big screen outside.  Satoshi wonders what it is, and Toru explains that the Breeding Centers are the newest thing.  They raise pokemon for trainers who can't themselves.  Satoshi thinks it sounds neat and wants to try it out.  There are a lot of people waiting outside the center and the place is very popular.  It's Satoshi-tachi's turn in line, and Kasumi has decided to leave her Koduck with the center, hoping the center can make it smarter.  The woman at the center (who was also in the commercial) takes the Koduck on to a converyor belt and off it goes!

Satoshi thinks Kasumi will just leave Koduck at the center, but she says she'd never do that.  Just then, they pass a restaraunt with a sign advertising all-you-can-eat for free.  The chef comes out and says the buffet's free on one condition:  show him his favorite pokemon.  Everyone shows him their pokemon, but none of them are his favorite.  Finally, he reveals who his favorite pokemon is:  Koduck.  Everyone's surprised, and Kasumi storms back to the Breeding Center to get her Koduck back.  But when she gets there, the Breeding Center is closed!  They go around to the back and find that the door is unlocked, and still  no one is around.  Kasumi-tachi explore a bit before they enter a dark room with a lot of pokemon in cages.  The pokemon look sick and tired as they are crammed into cages.  Takeshi finds her Koduck in a cage.

Meanwhile, the woman from the Breeding Center and her partner look over a Sand.  It turns out that they're Yamato and Kosaburou from the Rocket Dan!  Sakaki has grown tired of Musashi's and Kojirou's failures, and the whole Breeding Center setup is a scam.  Meanwhile, Toru is taking pictures of all the pokemon in cages to be used as evidence.  Kosaburou sees the flashes of light from Toru's camera and goes to investigate.  He walks into a room to see...a Pikcahu inside a cage making electricity.  He says there's nothing to worry about and when he leaves the room, Kasumi-tachi come out from behind the cage and let Pikachu out.  Kasumi tries to get Koduck out when they hear the windows rattle.  It's Musashi and Kojirou (and Nyasu)!  They plan to steal the center's pokemon for the boss.  Satoshi startles them, adn they argue back and forth until Yamato comes in.  Yamato and Kosaburou reveal themselves to Satoshi-tachi as members of the Rocket Dan and do their own Rocket Dan motto.  It's revealed that Yamato and Musashi are rivals, and the two Rocket Dan argue back and forth as Satoshi-tachi try to escape.  The Rocket Dan 2 are distracted by this, so the original Rocket Dan try run away.  Kojirou tries to get his Utsubot (see the Popular Pokemon section) but a cage traps Kojirou, Musashi, Nyasu, and Utsubot.    Meanwhile, a steel cage falls and imprisons Satoshi, Takeshi, and Toru.  Kasumi and Pikachu run off to get help while Yamato and Kosaburou, back in their Breeding Center disguises, call the police to take Satoshi-tachi and Musashi-tachi away.

Kasumi and Pikachu come back ot the center, in disguise, and Kasumi asks Yamato to get her Koduck.  Meanwhile, Pikachu scurries in to get Toru's camera to show the police.  It succeeds just as Yamato comes back.  Kasumi goes to the police station and shows the photos to Officer Junsa, and she lets Satoshi-tachi go (but keeps Musashi-tachi in jail!).  Junsa goes to the Breeding Center to arrest Yamato-tachi, so Yamato sends out Ratta.  Satoshi's Pikachu easily wins, and then Satoshi releases Fushigidane.  It uses its vine whip to tie them up, and  Yamato-tachi are hauled off to jail.  Junsa says they'll return all the pokemon to their owners.

Later, Kasumi-tachi are eating at the all-you-can-eat restaraunt.  Toru decides to leave the gang to take pictures in the mountains. They say goodbye and head off to Guren Island.  Meanwhile, Musashi-tachi are digging out of jail...

Lots of kanji in this one...

The sign behind Yamato in her commercial originally said "Oneesan no Sodateya" ("Big Sister's Raising Center" or something like that).  All the words are erased, leaving a blank sign.

When Toru explains about Breeding Centers, there's a sign to the left side of the screen with some katakana.  4Kids adjusted the scene so that the left side of the screen cuts off the sign.

In the scene with the crowd of people, there's a kanji symbol above the boy in the green shirt.  It's been erased.

And in this scene, the banner at the top had the same words as the ad.  Erased...

The sign on the restaraunt had a WHOLE lot of kanji on it (and I can't read kanji...).  It was replaced with "ALL U CAN EAT FREE!"  Now they're being cool, using that "teenybopper" talk.  It's so wicked kewl!  I just luv all they're doing for us phans.  U just don't know!

The white sign that says "CLOSED" in the dub had four kanji on it.  4Kids actually took some thought with this episode...can you imagine how stupid it'd look for the sign to be blank?

*When Yamato's and Kosaburou's names are first revealed, Sakaki syas Yamato's name first.  In the dub, he says "Butch...Cassidy..." to emphasize the joke about their name (Butch Cassidy, James Jesse...).

The Rocket Dan 2 Motto in Japanese! (Words in orange are Yamato's, words in green are Kosaburous.  Grey words are spokemon by both members)

    Nanda kanda to kikare tara
    Kotaenai no ga futsuu daga
    Tokubetsu ni Kotaete yarou!
Chikyuu no hametsu wo fusegu tame
Chikyuu no heiwa wo mamoru tame
Ai to seijitsu na aku wo tsuranuku
    PURITEI CHAAMII* na kataki yaku
    Yamato!
    Kusaburou!
Uchuu wo kakeru ROKETTO** Dan no futari ni wa
SHOKKINGU PINKI***!  Momoiro no ashita ga matteruze!

    *Pretty Charmy
    **Rocket
    ***Shocking Pink

When Yamato's crying to Junsa, there's a sign for Cable, Hamburgers, and Cool-something.  All were erased.

Outside the center during the day, besides the "Oneesan no Sodateya" on the overhang, there are two signs on both sides.  On the left, the sign says "P LANDO" (P-Land, as in Pokemon Land, Sakaki's amusement park), and the right sign says "Oneesan no Sodateya SUTAJI" (Oneesan no Sodateya's Stage?).  Both were erased by 4Kids.  Also on the right sign, there's the kanji symbol that was erased in the crowd scene (it was also erased).

The outside of the jail had a lot of kanji.  Down the center of the building are four kanji running down, and on the side, below the fourth floor windows, are another bunch of kanji.  All wiped off by 4Kids.

Outside the Restaurant Hungry, we can see "RESUTORAN" (Restraunt) written out in katakana above the awning.  This was effaced.

Pocket Monsters was not created by me.  It was created by Satoshi Tajiri and the crew at TV-Tokyo.  Pokemon is (c) Game Freak, Nintendo, 4Kids Productions, Hasbro, Bandai, and a ton of other companies. When you have a popular anime like Pokemon, lots of people own it so it's impossible to list every company who owns a piece of Pokemon.  No infringement of copyrights is meant by the creation of the web site.  All images were gotten from official websites (Nintendo, TV-Tokyo, etc.) unless otherwise noted (I don't steal images from other sites!).
