![]() Japanese VA: Hayashibara Megumi (Ranma-chan in Ranma 1/2, Lina Inverse
in Slayers)
Some say it's Jesse, others say it's Jessie. Well, it's Musashi. And please, don't pronounce her name like everyone does in the game "Brave Fencer Musashi." It's not "Musa-SHE," it's "Musash." The "i'" is silent! The 17-year-old (she doesn't look 12 or 21) female half of the Rocket Dan, she and her partner Kojirou are the reason to watch the show. She has two pokemon: Arbok and Beroringa. She isn't given as much attention as Kojirou is in the series. However, one could draw a lot of parallels between her and Fushigi Yuugi's Tasuki (red hair, constant use of the iron fan...). Musashi's and Kojirou's dubbed name, when put together, makes "Jesse James," the famous criminal. I don't know if Nintendo was trying to be cute or what, but it's an obnoxious pun (OK, Butch Cassidy is even more obnoxious. Thank goodness there aren’t two more Rocket Dan members to call "Bonnie" and "Clyde"). James/Kojirou Japanese VA: Miki Shinichirou (Allen Shezal in Vision of Escaflowne)
For some reason, we know a lot more about Kojirou than Musashi. Kojirou, who is also 17, lived in a mansion with his parents until they wanted him to marry Rumika. He left, and soon joined a Bicycle Gang. Kojirou cross-dresses more than any anime character I know. In fact, his cross-dressing is the reason one of the episodes didn't get shown in America. There's a lot of speculation on-line that Kojirou's gay ("It's times like this that make me want to go straight"), but I'll leave that up to you to decide. He only has one pokemon (Matadogasu). I don't see why Ga-chan (the Gardie he left at the mansion) doesn't join him. His dubbed voice is OK, but OVERLY melodramatic at times (especially in Yamato and Kosaburo’s debut episode). He gets his own song on the Rocket Dan CD ("Lucky Lucky") but Musashi doesn't. Butch/Kosaburou American VA: Matthew Mitler (Gary, Melvin the Magician in Pokemon)
Kosaburou is the male member of the "other" Rocket Dan. As far as we can tell, he has no pokemon. Kosaburou has the most obnoxious dubbed voice of any character in the dubbed Pokemon *shudder*. Seriously, with all the anti-tobacco messages in televised anime (including the scene edited in the Prehistoric Pokemon episode where Nyasu uses a lighter) this guy sounds like he's smoked one cigarette too many. Jeesh, I'm expecting this guy to start hacking up a lung in the middle of his motto! Cassidy/Yamato American VA: Lisa Ortiz (Lina Inverse in Slayers, Deedlit in Loddoss, Azalyn and the twins in Tylor)
Yamato used to be rivals with Musashi, and still is. Seemingly the mastermind of the Rocket Dan 2 (I guess that's what I'll call them to avoid confusion), Yamato is rather stuck up. She is the mastermind of the Rocket Dan 2. The Rocket Dan 2 doesn't have half the charm that Musashi and Kojirou have. Maybe that's why we only see them in a few episodes. Someone who looks very much like her appears in Silver many times, but a name is never given. ???/Mondo Japanese VA: Koyasu Takehito (Hotohori in FY, Zechs in Gundam W, Abaratsubo
in Mahou Tsukai Tai)
Mondo will probably never make it to America. Why? Because he was created specially for the "Shiroi Ashita da Roketto Dan" CD Dramas. He is a little kid (maybe about Satoshi’s age? The again, he does drive the Rocket Dan jeep, so he has to be at least 16...) who has one pokemon-a Metamon. Mondo simply adores Mushashi and respects the Rocket Dan as a whole (like me ^_^). In one CD Drama, he trades his Metamon for Mushashi and Kojirou’s Nyasu, but it doesn’t take long for the trio to switch back. A translation of the CD Drama in which he appears can be found here. Jame's Parents/Kojirou no Ryoushin
Kojirou's parents are very wealthy. They live in a very large mansion, which doesn't suit Kojirou at all. He left because he could not stand their rich lifestyle and all the rules and order that goes with it. They fake their own death to bring a grieving Kojirou back home so that they can hook him up with Rumika. They're a little nuts o_O. ???/Miyamato Japanese VA: Hyouma Yumi
Miyamato is Musashi's mommy! She was a member of the Rocket Dan back when Madam Boss called the shots and was one of the Dan's best members. She is sent to go after a Myuu after a recording of it is made in the Andes Mountains. Miyamato tells Musashi and her husband (who isn't really identified) of the mission, which upsets a very young Musashi very much (she begins to cry...). She gives Musashi a picture of Musashi's father and then leaves for her mission. She searches for a long time with no luck. Then one day, Myuu appears and then disappears very suddenly! However, before she can chase after it, she hears a rumbling. It's an avalanche! Miyamato is killed in the Andes Mountains... Miyamato appears only in the "Birth of Myuutsu" CD drama, which gives a lot of background information on the Myuutsu movie. She is always hungry for money, but not for herself; she's constantly saying how school for Musashi costs a lot and how she must find Myuu so that she can get the money to let Musashi have a good education. ???/Madam Boss Japanese VA: Tsuru Hiromi (Bulma in DBZ,
Ukkyo in Ranma 1/2)
Madam Boss is Sakaki's mother! She used to be the leader of the Rocket Dan before Sakaki took over (apparently it's a family business...). She is the one who sends Miyamato on the mission which gets her killed. She is only in the "Birth of Myuutsu" CD drama. She is always money-conscious and is always looking for more ways to save money. |

Pocket Monsters was not created by me. It was created by Satoshi Tajiri and the crew at TV-Tokyo. Pokemon is (c) Game Freak, Nintendo, 4Kids Productions, Hasbro, Bandai, and a ton of other companies. When you have a popular anime like Pokemon, lots of people own it so it's impossible to list every company who owns a piece of Pokemon. No infringement of copyrights is meant by the creation of the web site. All images were gotten from official websites (Nintendo, TV-Tokyo, etc.) unless otherwise noted (I don't steal images from other sites!). |
