"This is the comic that most resembles the world I was trying to convey."

-Satoshi Tajiri, creator of Pocket Monsters

    Official Pokemon Adventures website

Published in 1997, Pokemon Special follows the game closer than the anime (but not as close as the manga Pokemon Zensho).  The manga follows the adventures of Red and his rival Green (which was changed to Blue for the American version...stupid Viz) and later Blue and Yellow.  Red battles all the gym leaders like in the game and anime, but his first pokemon's a Nyorozo.  There are a total of six tankobon in Japan.  I personally like this rendition of the manga the second-best, second only to Toshihiro Ono's version.  The plot's interesting, and the artwork's cute.

    Artist:  Mato
    Writer:  Hidenori Kusaka
Gym Leaders:  At least the first 8
Rocket-Dan:  Regular members (not Musashi and Kojirou)

Pokemon Special is currently being translated by Viz under the title "Pokemon Adventures."

Pocket Monsters was not created by me.  It was created by Satoshi Tajiri and the crew at TV-Tokyo.  Pokemon is (c) Game Freak, Nintendo, 4Kids Productions, Hasbro, Bandai, and a ton of other companies. When you have a popular anime like Pokemon, lots of people own it so it's impossible to list every company who owns a piece of Pokemon.  No infringement of copyrights is meant by the creation of the web site.  All images were gotten from official websites (Nintendo, TV-Tokyo, etc.) unless otherwise noted (I don't steal images from other sites!).
