But What About My Family And Friends?

How can I tell them about my path? They will never understand!

I don’t know how many times I’ve had a new witch approach me with this. For some this is a big deal. They’re family mean the world to them and they just couldn’t take it if they thought less of them or upset them by telling them they are a witch. Most new witches fell the need to hide their path out of fear. Why fear what you have chosen for yourself?

If you have to hide the way you want to live from everyone close to you then you are simply denying the truth about what you are. I’m not saying tell them right away but it’s usually a good idea not to lie about it or persuade them otherwise. I know how this works all to well cause I have been there. You are just starting into your witchy path and are deathly afraid that no one will understand why so you hide it as best you can. Candle, incense holders and incense, books, notes and all your stuff will be hidden away so no one but you knows where it is. It’s hard trying to hide the thing you love most isn’t it. If you are truly sure that you want to be a witch and follow your path then it’s time to step out of the broom closet. No one needs to hide what they are it’s a terrible way to live. Here are a few guidelines and some helping support for you.

First is knowledge. I don’t think people realize how important this is. I can’t say this enough knowledge is power. It really is the most powerful thing when you want to step out of that broom closet. You’ll get bombarded by questions and if you don’t know enough about your path they will just see it as a phase you will eventually grow out of. Write down as many questions that you think they might ask and prepare to answer them. Even the silliest questions need to be prepared for so you have enough knowledge to prove it isn’t a phase. I said it before and I’ll say it many more times knowledge is power always remember that.

Secondly is confidence and belief in yourself. Be sure of yourself otherwise it’s a hopeless battle. If you crumble easy or bend to their will and give it up then you really aren’t meant to be a witch or follow the path you had chosen. If it truly is your path you won’t let people convert you easily in fact if it is the path you want no one should be able to convert you ever. Always remember it is your life no one but you has to live it. Since it’s your life you have the freedom to be a unique individual and follow whatever path you want to and be whatever you want to.

Thirdly is being strong. Things might get ugly and you got to prepare for that. Some people still think that witchcraft is devil worship and things may not go so smoothly in that case. This is were you take that knowledge, remember knowledge is power, and use it to your advantage. Don’t let them keep on believing things that aren’t true. Attempt to educate if they are understanding they will listen to you after all this is your family and friends we are talking about. Sometimes they won’t be so understanding and you need to prepare for the worst as well. I hate to tell you that but the world is not perfect so it could go great or it could go horrible either way prepare yourself.

Witches are great people we are magickal and wonderful beings. Each of us follows a different path and has to overcome some of the same obstacles. Hang in there life isn’t easy and it will be full of complications and little bumps along the way. Those bumps are what make us better people and help us to become who we truly are. Always remember knowledge is power, use it to your advantage and you will do fine. I wish you the best of luck in taking that giant and frightening step out of the broom closet but I assure you once you are out life will seem better. No need to hide the things you do and you are free to truly be the witch you want to be.
