So you want to be a donor: Part 1
Well there are several things that can lead a person to being a donor. One you are obsessed with vamps, two you personally know a vamp that has asked you to be a donor, or blatant curiosity about the whole thing. First of all there are several things that you should probably know. I’ll fill you in on a few of them throughout this article.
The first and most important thing to be aware of is blood born diseases, and how to protect yourself from them. Since being a donor often includes cutting yourself and bleeding it is a good idea to get any type of vaccination against blood born diseases that you can. Since you will be cutting yourself it’s always possible to become infected with something. This brings me to the next most important part about blood testing. It is a good habit to get into going to get yourself tested every 6months maybe even more. Things happen and it’s a good idea to be protected and know what is going on in your body so that you don’t spread something nasty around. Always keep a record of blood testings so that you can show new vamps that you are clean. Most aren’t that picky but some are and it’s always a good precaution anyways.
Secondly, are things that you should have as a donor. Again this is basically just for blood donors. A good thing for all donors to have is something to cut or otherwise make themselves bleed with. Good things to keep in your ‘Donor Kit’ are lancets and razorblades. As well as lancets and razorblades you should keep things to help clean the wound and help it heal after letting blood. Some choice things for cleaning and healing your wounds are polysporn, bacatracin zinc, and vitamin E helps your wound with scarring. Bandages and gauze in your ‘Donor Kit’ couldn’t hurt either.
Thirdly is your emotions and state of mind. You have to be prepare that you are going to have to cut yourself and be able to. I’m not saying to start cutting yourself all the time for practice either. If cutting yourself and bleeding bothers you then you aren’t really cut out to be a donor. Most of us donors already know that you form a bond with the vamp that you are feeding. It’s a special connection kind of like you’d make with an extremely close friend or possibly a lover. If you aren’t in any state to be in that type of relationship wait until your mind is in a good state and you don’t have so much emotional baggage.
Finally have fun with being a donor and developing new friendships and bonds with vamps. If may not always work out but don’t let that sour you. There are plenty of great vamps in need of donors be prepared for some to have odd belittling attitudes and others to treat you like gold it really could go either way. It’s your blood and your body you don’t just have to give it to anyone don’t be afraid to get choosey if you aren’t being treated right. Never let anyone mistreat you vamp or not it’s common decency.
