Witchcraft For Beginners: Part 1

The Witches Pyramid
To Know
To Will
To Dare
To be Silent

What do they mean and how can you use them?

For a beginning witch something that will help you with the craft is the witches' pyramid. Otherwise known as the law of four. It helps you build a strong foundation in learning about yourself and the craft. It's also an aid that can be used in our journey through the wonderful world of the craft. Witchcraft might not be everyone's cup of tea but if you are looking into it very seriously there are things you should know so on with the first part of our little journey.

To Know

Let's start our journey here. By reading this you’ve already started the first part of your journey. Gaining knowledge. To know means that you need to have the knowledge before you start into it seriously. Would you fly a plane with out learning how to first? Of course not! That's not only dumb it could endanger your life and the life of others. Knowledge is power and this will most certainly help you learn your craft whichever one you choose.

Let's look at it this way. To be able to fly your plane (your craft) you need to get taught or teach yourself. A good way to do this is to buy books on it. Whatever type you choose. I suggest going to your local bookstore and browsing the New Age section. Pick up any book that interests you, read the back, flip through the pages. I suggest you do this to as many books as you can get your hands on. Then decided which one (or ones) interest you most and read them. You hear people recommend books all the time…but if your not sure what path you really want to follow then browsing would do you better. If you don’t' find what your looking for in those books don't fret there are plenty of other valid sources of information out there you don't have to settle for anything you don't like.

Another great source of information is the Internet. Well think of all the other interesting articles out there just ready to be discovered and enjoyed. To find them just go to a search engine my favorite one is Google and type in what you want to learn about…let's say Witchcraft. You'll get tons and tons of links. Read the description and follow as many as you can it is free after all. Another great thing on the web for information is message boards. Find one or two that interest you and join them. They are also usually free and give great information. The Address to mine is pub177.ezboard.com/bwitcheslair55461 but there are tons of other great message boards out there. Just do an Internet search of Message Boards and you'll be surprised what you can find.

Finally the best source of all is other people. I suggest finding yourself a personal teacher or mentor. I've been told that when you are ready to learn that the teacher will find you…but if you are ready to learn why not find the teacher. Often times you will find them in the least likely places or when you're not looking at all. A good spot to find a willing teacher is the Internet. You can go to various sites that let you post an ad and find yourself a teacher. A good one for this is www.witchesvox.com/ they can connect you to people in your area that are of the same or similar religion. It's truly a great service. Once you've found a teacher use them to the fullest. Ask them about everything. Remember the only stupid question is an unasked one. So know that we've started on our journey let's keep on going but remember the key to keeping your plane from crashing is knowledge.

To Will

To will is the second part of the witches triangle or law of four. To will is several things. This is the second part of our journey.

First of all it is belief in you, your skill level and the power from within. Without the will power to believe in yourself you will find it hard to do anything craft related or not. If you lack belief everything will fail most of all you will fail yourself. So the first major thing is to work on your belief in yourself and build up your willpower. Never doubt yourself for doubt will only lead to messing up or never really reaching your full potential. It's a shame when so many people have so much potential to do extraordinary things but they doubt themselves. Don't let this happen to you. Try as much as stuff as you can get your hands on. If it doesn't work or you can't understand it right from the beginning don't worry you have all the time in the world work at your own pace.

Second is belief in the your divinity. If you doubt that things exist it will be hard to work with it now won't it. You really need to believe that everything is attainable and that the divinity is real for you. Remember just because something is real for you don't mean that it will be real for everyone. Some people don't believe in the goddess while others don't, some still yet believe in a god and goddess, while some stick to just one god. There are so many out there be sure to choose the right one for you and that you really truly believe in it 100%.

To Dare

Additionally to dare also means several things. A witch has got to be daring enough to setup and try new things. Not be afraid to get what she/he wants. Do you have the guts to change? This is the third part of our journey.

Change will happen for everyone eventually in one way or another. If you are converting from another religion do you really want to do it? This is something you really need to examine closely. Converting is a big change and sometimes not for everyone. People are usually raised with certain core values that they do not want to change. They have been accustom to them all there life. So to really be able to choose this religion you have to be daring enough to change, maybe even several times to suit what you believe is real or not and everything you learn.

You also have to be able to take responsibility for your actions. If something backfires will you own up to it and fix it? When you are a witch sometimes things can go astray and you really need to be daring enough to fix it or deal with the repercussions that come your way. If you do something evil be prepared to have to thrown back at you. Every action has an equal or greater reaction. Always remember be daring enough to try new things but also deal with the backlash.

To Be Silent

To be silent is the fourth and last part of our journey. This is in my mind the most important of them all.

A witch needs to learn to keep silent when she/he needs to. It is best if you keep quiet before you do anything, after you do it and while your waiting. It will do you no good to go around bragging about something you want to do. Especially if it is an attack on someone else for whatever reason you may have. Bragging will only lead to failure, before, after, or while your waiting. I don't suggest nor condone attacking another for any reason other then if they are threatening your life or the life of a loved one. Either way I'm sure you don't want to get a bad reputation for being a vengeful witch and you might even scare off potential helpers and friends.

Also being silent means not running around trying to get attention just cause you’re a witch. The whole look at me fluff bunny way gets old fast and you will probably be regarded as a poser instead of a serious practicer of magick. If you are serious about it you should not use your craft to get attention drawn to yourself. I believe to gain respect you need to earn it. If you want to earn it you need to keep silent and only offer advice when it is needed or asked for. Seeking attention is not a way to gain respect from fellow witches or anyone else for that matter.

In conclusion I hope that this helps you all look inside deeper and try to figure out if this really is what you want or not. Deciding if you really want to practice the craft is the first and most important step ever. Take your time gain knowledge, willpower, be daring and most of all stay silent until you have it all figured out.
